today i measured out all my materials and finished my measurements for my wood program. i also got all my stuff done in fusion and exported all my new designs.

Mon, May 12 HW – image of completed homework

jointed the whole new pencil box. this took a while. I also spent a lot of time on the new top piece of the actual desktop organizer and modeling that but i spent a solid 15 minutes trying to extrude a circle hole down the middle. This for some reason would NOT work and i legit tried everything.
Week 8
Thu, May 8 CW- image of work completed in class
remodeled the pencil box, since when i printed it i figured that it would be better to be on the side rather than on top of my design. i also printed out my back piece.

Thu, May 8 HW – image of completed homework
couldn’t do any hw since I was waiting on the printer
Tue, May 6 CW- image of work completed in class
finished putting together my cardboard design. just need to cut out the back piece next class

Tue, May 6 HW – image of completed homework
Spent a lot of time finishing this one piece on the front of the design and went thorugh a lot of iterations. made tweaks on each of them manually thats why it took so long just to finish one piece.

manually made this one black and white
Week 7
Fri, May 2 CW- image of work completed in class
Printed all my parts! realized i missed some of my jointery so i fixed it

Fri, May 2 HW – image of completed homework
cant do anything for homework; all i am waiting for is the printer
Wed, Apr 30 CW- image of work completed in class
spent a lot of time waiting to print today and didn’t even get to. In that time, I made an outline for my back vetical and did some finishing touches on my etching since I learned that I can’t use a gradient. I took a lot of time to make some falling cherry blossoms.

Wed, Apr 30 HW – image of completed homework
For homework today I worked on my designs in adobe illustrator. Really like how they’ve turned out since I put my own work into them and didn’t depend entirely on AI.

Mon, Apr 28 CW- image of work completed in class
Saved all my sketches as dxf files. worked on my designs in illustrator and make them less ai dependent. Started the printing process but had to be cut short since the printer started glitching.

Mon, Apr 28 HW – image of completed homework
got some designs in adobe illustrator. played around with it for a while and found some designs that I particularly liked. Just have to decide which ones to use now.

Week 6
Thu, Apr 24 CW- image of work completed in class
Today for class work i finished both my drawers. Since I was struggling for 30 minutes last night to finish the sketch for the first drawer using the pattern tool I decided to just brute force it and use the dimension tool. I also used these same dimensions for the second drawer so it was a lot easier and faster.

Thu, Apr 24 HW – image of completed homework
Stuck on finishing the jointage for the drawer. can’t seem to make the rectangular pattern tool to work. Might have to brute force it tomorrow.
Installed adobe software on my new mac

Tue, Apr 22 CW- image of work completed in class
Today I finished the bookshelf and worked on the drawer. I was able to extrude one side I just need to extrude the other sides and make the jointage. Making the second drawer will be easier after I make the first one.

Tue, Apr 22 HW – image of completed homework
finally got my new computer. installed fusion and started the einstallation process of adobe illustrator. Started the bookshelf today and figured out all the measurements and jointage that I need to. Class tomorrow I will work on the jointage on the main area as well as the back of the book shelf.

Week 5
Thu,, Apr 17 CW- image of work completed in class
learned how to ungroup Gen-Shape elements in Adobe illustrator. Learned how to create negative space on a drawing in Adobe Illustrator
fusion is really slow on my loaner laptop, so I wasn’t able to get much work done especially since I had to install fusion brand new. Finished the pencil box and looked at some jointery issues I had done earlier from the project.

Thu, Apr 17 HW – image of completed homework
exempt from homework; computer broken
Tue, Apr 15 CW- image of work completed in class’
Installed Adobe Illustrator. Played around with the AI design feature and I am brainstorming ideas for my bodies. Worked on finding designs for the back as well as the far right of my design.

Tue, Apr 15 HW – image of completed homework
Did not fulfill my promise of getting the whole bottom portion done. Got the main upper wall’s sketches done so I just have to extrude them and make joints. downloaded the new software. Also finished the far right wall and implemented the jointage. All took around 40 minutes with figuring out measurements and all

Week 4
Fri, Apr 11 CW- image of work completed in class
extruded most of the main bodies in class today. still working on having the second layer be able to fit into the jointage. For homework tonight I am planning on finishing the main area for the desktop organizer so that I can work on the bookshelf and the design next class.

Fri, Apr 11 HW – image of completed homework
Today for homework I researched a few ways that I can use adobe illustrator to formulate the art on the back of my desktop organizer. I spoke with some of my peers who had used the software previously. I also took a while inspecting my old pencil box to figure out how I should make the pieces joint together. I didn’t entirely figure this out but I was able to put some ideas down on my sketch.

Wed, Apr 9 CW- image of work completed in class
today I finished my sketch with some rough measurements on how I want to model my desktop organizer. I also started my desktop organizer on fusion after researching how I want to model the joints.

Wed, Apr 9 HW – image of completed homework
worked on my phone design. Spent a ton of time figuring out the fillets that I needed that would be appropriate for my phone stand on the back of my phone case. Measured my own phone and figured out my design. Also designed the ride side elevation button. Did the extrusion for both the button and the cut that I needed to do. Will work on the further details next chance I get.
I also worked on my fourth design. Spent a bunch of time researching famous pieces of asian art that could go on the back of the design since that is what my subject enjoyed.

Mon, Apr 7 CW- image of work completed in class
I also worked on 3 different designs.

Actionable problem statement:
My client needs a desktop organizer that has the main function of providing space to store small objects that clutter his desk. Currently, his desk is very unorganized because he doesn’t have any place to store his small appliances. He also wanted a new area to place his figurines so that he didn’t have to use space on his desk for them.
One of the biggest constraints is that my client would not like his desktop organizer to be too prominent on his desk, but would still like it to be well-designed and aesthetically pleasing to the eye when you walk into the room. The box will have to fit within the constraints of the corner of my client’s desk, which isn’t too big. I will also have to fit a charging port and a few drawers with enough organizational space. I will make sure to do this while keeping the organizer a bit taller so that I can fit more wood on a smaller amount of desk area.
Mon, Apr 7 HW – image of completed homework
I also conducted a few questions in person with my subject so that I could get more in-depth answers. I went to my friend’s room so that I could help him analyze his room and answer the questions with the most certainty. In person, Ruben told me that he would love a desktop organizer that could be used to declutter his space, which was his biggest issue. He told me that he wanted his desktop organizer to be natured themed with trees but also color scheme that fits in with some of the action figures he has in his room. He showed the the individual items that he would store, as well as the size that he would like the organizer. He said he wouldn’t like it to be super prominent but functional enough to where it majorly declutters his space. He said a place to leave his phone is something that he would value a lot.

Week 3
Thu, Apr 3 CW- image of work completed in class
During this class, I started working on the interview part of the design procedure, and I created my questions. I did this to find out what my subject would want on their desktop organizer so they could find the most productivity in it. I tried to make these questions specific to my subject so that I could get the best answers from my subject and direct my project towards his needs. I made sure to ask open-ended questions so that I could get the best idea of what my subject wants, rather than just yes or no questions that are up to interpretation. All of my questions had a clear purpose and pertained to what I have seen my subject wants, but also so that I can gain a more personal understanding of how this phone stand would help him.
- What is the biggest issue on your desk? Is there not enough space? Too messy?
- What would you like aesthetically on your desktop organizer? Would you like it to match the rest of your room? Would you like the figurines in your room to match the desktop organizer?
- How much space on your desk are you willing to sacrifice for a desktop organizer?
- What would you like to store in a desktop organizer?
- How prominent would you like your desktop organizer to be to someone who walks into your room?
- What features would you like on your desktop organizer? A charging slot? How many drawers? Hidden drawers?
- How large would you like your drawers? What are you storing inside them?
- Would you like your name on the desktop organizer? If you do, would you like it very visible?

I then worked on my phone. I extruded the volume side buttons and filleted the sides of the phone. I started working on the screen of the phone, where I added the top volume section. I hope to finish the whole design for homework.
Thu, Apr 3 HW – image of completed homework
Basically finished my phone stand. Spent some time experimenting and finding out how to change the colors and aesthetics. Spent a lot of time on my phone model, working on perfecting the measurements of the camera as well as the sketches on the sides of the phone. Extruded and sketched the bottom of the phone. It randomly disappeared after I had finished it so I spent around 5 minutes just finding how to get it back. Found out that I had to configure something in the timeline to fix it.

Tue, Apr 1 CW- image of work completed in class
Had to leave early this class for a tennis match. Edited the frame so the updated holder could actually fit. Extended it on the bottom so it can be flush. Then I edited the jointage maximums and minimums, and I also edited the bottom area where the phone lays so the phone can actually fit. Next class/for hw I will make area for charging/volume

Tue, Apr 1 HW – image of completed homework
worked on top jointing and brainstormed ideas to actually make the top joint work. Attached an arm that goes around the top of the big arm to be able to joint the rod inside to the arm for the phone stand. spent about 20 minutes on that. spent the other 10 minutes researching other ways that I can make this joint work that I will work on in class. Going to use the tutorial I found below tomorrow in class.

Week 2
Sat, Mar 29 CW – image of work completed in class
edited my arm so that it fits within the frame that I made>. Still figuring out my second hinge for some reason its really weird to formulate

Sat, Mar 29 HW – image of completed homework
for homework today I kept working on my phone stand. kept running into issues with making the arm and went back on a bunch of design decisions that I made so I did not make a ton of progress within my 45 minutes.

Thur, Mar 27 CW – image of work completed in class
today I started working on my final phone stand. jointed the first joint but recognized an alignment issue so I’ll fix that next class. used a video for my joint.

Thur, Mar 27HW – image of completed homework
got some solid progress on modeling my phone. Modelled most of the main body with the measurements that I got and modeled the entire camera. Now all there is left to do is model the sides and the bottom.

Tue, Mar 25 CW- image of work completed in class
finished final sketch. started modeling phone.

Tue, Mar 25 HW – image of completed homework
Finished my four phone stand designs. the other two are below and were done in class.

Week 1
Sat, Mar 22 CW- image of work completed in class

My phone stand should be able to change the viewing angle to accommodate different sitting positions. It should also accommodate my own phone so I can use it. I would also like holes for the charger, volume, power, and sound areas on the side of my phone so that it retains as much functionality as it would without the stand. It should also use a realistic material that won’t break easily so that my phone stand can stay intact. It should also be small and portable enough such that I can carry it anywhere.
Thu, Mar 20 CW- image of work completed in class
finished orthographic sketch but fusion was down and didn’t wanna risk losing my work ; also finished hw for next class and did the quiz
