Week 10
Thu, May 22 CW- image of work completed in class
Today, I sanded my pieces down and then stayed after class to glue dad’s desktop organizer. I had to recut the front and back pieces because the front piece piece was missing the front joint and the back had a half circle like the front. With Mr. Brodie’s help, I was able to glue the main body of dad’s desktop organizer together and the drawer together. I will be coming back on Saturday at 3:30 to glue all the compartments together. Once I do that, I will finally be done.
- Sorrt about the blurry photos. My phone is old.

Thu, May 22 HW – image of completed homework
I do not have anything I can do for homework because I need to laser cut out the final wood version of daddy’s desktop organizer and add the engravings onto the front of the drawer. I can try to pop by consult, but there may be a long line.
Tue, May 20 CW- image of work completed in class

I officially have the cardboard version of daddy’s desktop organizer done. Now I need to test out the personalizations and make the wood version. I made some edits to the John Wick inspired coin personalization for daddy, saved the updated personalizations, and then added the file personalizations I made to my folder. I updated the folder on the hard drive that I have been using and gave it to Mr. Brodie who will be trying to help me and all the other people that are behind by cutting out our desktop organizers for us. I also crossed out a hole of each side of the desktop organizer that I do not need to be one one side, but left it uncrossed on the other because I need it there.
I stayed during consult and put all my pieces, including the front drawer with the engravings, onto an Adobe Illustrator file. I then put it onto the hard drive Mr. Brodie is using to store all the pieces that need to be cut out.
Tue, May 20 HW – image of completed homework

On Sunday, I stopped by GCAD to use the laser cutters. I made the cardboard version of dad’s desktop organizer and taped it together. I found that the holes in the back of the organizer were missing, so I went onto Fusion to fix it. I accidentally forgot to make the joints on the back of the slots and the sketch I made for the joints had not been on the slots. With Mr. Brodie’s help, I was able to make the joints by creating sketches on the back of each of the slots and then protruding the sketches. I then made a projected sketch of the back, turned it into a DFX file, added it to the folder with all the parts of dad’s organizer, and then added it to the hard drive. I know need to make the cardboard back and the front because I am also missing that, test out the personalizations, and make the final wood version.
Week 9
Fri, May 16 CW- image of work completed in class
There was nothing art-related that I could do today due to the incredibly long wait.
Fri, May 16 HW – image of completed homework
I do not have any work I can do that can be done at my dorm. I need to make more of the card board pieces of dad’s desktop organizer. I will once again try to get to class early, so I can beat everyone to the laser cutter.
Wed, May 14 CW- image of work completed in class

Here are the pictures of the pieces of the card board desktop organizer that I have gotten cut out so far.
I forgot to take a picture of the cardboard I laser cut, but I will pop by tomorrow to take the picture and post it. Today, I came by class early, so I could get to the laser cutter first. It worked and I got almost all my pieces set up on Rhino before I realized that the sides of my desktop organizer were missing the holes for the verts to go in. I went onto my computer to fix it and found that I couldn’t make one hole one the right side without making one on the left side. Mr. Brodie said I could fix it on Rhino, so I made the holes and then left them. I made the DFX files for the sides, added them to my folder, re-added the folder to the hard drive I previously used, and made an updated version of my folder on the computer connected to the laser cutter. With Darshan and Yalong’s help, I was able to successfully cut out some of the pieces though I did have to redo my first attempt because the cardboard didn’t get cut all the way through. Mr. Brodie had to leave around 3:00, so I couldn’t cut more. I already had some pieces ready to cut though, so Mr. Brodie told me to leave them up and that he would get them cut out for me.
Wed, May 14 HW – image of completed homework
I do not currently have any homework I can do at my dorm. I need to make a cardboard version of dad’s desktop organizer and test the designs of the personalizations I made for him. To do this, I will try to get to class early tomorrow, so I can use the the laser cutter first.
Mon, May 12 CW- image of work completed in class

Today in class, I made DFX files of the components for dad’s desktop organizer and then added them to a hard drive. I then ATTEMPTED to have the cardboard version of the organizer cut out, but I forgot to project my sketches. I spent the end of class and consult projecting my sketches, creating the DFX files of the sketches, adding them to a folder I created, adding that folder to the hard drive, and then adding a copy of the folder to the laser cutting computer. Hopefully, I will be able to get some laser cutting done next class.
Mon, May 12 HW – image of completed homework

I worked on making one of the personalizations for dad a bit simpler so it would print out better. I was unfortunately unable to pop by GCAD on Sunday due to the day being a bit messed up for me. I will make it up by getting to class early, making sure to pop by consult, and to go by GCAD next Sunday.
Week 8
Thu, May 8 CW- image of work completed in class

Today, I accidentally lost my work at the beginning of class and had to start over with the personalizations for dad’s desktop organizer. I found some images I really liked, but unfortunately, I cannot use the very top image because the colors are too close together. I will be using the image of the heart surrounded by leaves and has roots on it. I will also, hopefully, be using the coin image I currently have. Mr. Brodie adjusted the colors to the black and white spectrum and made a file of what I currently have on Adobe. I sent the file to him and he will try to make the coin image work by adjusting it. Thank you so much, Mr. Brodie!
Thu, May 8 HW – image of completed homework

I spent a while trying to find a good image that I could use and edit for the personalization design based off of the John Wick movies. I think this is a good one, but I will check with Mr. Brodie during class tomorrow to make sure it would laser well. If he says yes, I will ask for his help with editing the image, so I can make it have more association with the John Wick movies.
Tue, May 6 CW- image of work completed in class

I am so close to finishing dad’s desktop organizer!🥳 I have the Fusion model finished and finished the drawer after trying by myself and only partial succeeding. Mr. Brodie then helped me finish it. I started woking on the personalizations for dad. I made a heart surrounded by jungle greenery based off of one of my dad’s favorite movies, Romancing the Stone. I was working on making another image based off of the John Wick movies, which my dad also really likes, but the site froze, so I will wait and hope it’s working again later.
Tue, May 6 HW – image of completed homework

I stopped by GCAD on Sunday and my fixed paper slots so they wouldn’t protrude into the back. I then spent a while creating my drawer. I messed up making the drawer the first time by having the half circle on the back piece and not being able to extrude the joints. I fixed the half circle but still couldn’t create joints. I asked Mr. Brodie for help and I remade the drawer a third time. I forgot that I should create separate components for the drawer. I made the four sides and then worked on the base with Mr. Brodie’s help. I ran into an issue when making the joints on the back of the drawer’s base and will fix it on Tuesday during class.
Week 7
Fri, May 2 CW- image of work completed in class

Today in class I fidgeted with the Adobe Illustrator and tried to become more comfortable with it while working on a fitting design for my dad’s desktop organizer. This image of the coin surrounded by guns is currently the best design I have found so far.
Fri, May 2 HW – image of completed homework

I made the numerous tweaks to my desktop organizer’s vert slots such as adjusting how they extruded and adding ones that were missing. I will began the personalizations during class.
Wed, Apr 30 CW- image of work completed in class

I retract the statement I made for yesterday’s homework. I made tweaks and edits to the inserts for my slots and now I am missing inserts so I will quickly remake them. I will then start working on making the personalizations on my desktop organizer for dad.
Wed, Apr 30 HW – image of completed homework
I do not have anything that I can do at my dorm for homework, so I will continue working once I am at class tomorrow.
Mon, Apr 28 CW- image of work completed in class

Today, I finished extruding all of my verticals and making inserts for them!!!!🤩🥳 It was a long, repetitive process. I forgot the combine tool existed for a few minutes, but Mr. Brodie showed me it after I asked for help. I am very, very proud of myself for how much I got done on my own!!!!!!!😊 Next class, I will be making a cardboard model of what I have so far and then, hopefully, the 3D model of the drawer on Fusion.
Mon, Apr 28 HW – image of completed homework

I made a better sketch that fit how I wanted my dad’s desktop organizer to look. I haven’t extruded anything because I ‘m not quite sure if I should do it piece by piece or piece by long piece. I’m also having trouble making certain parts of my verts extrude, so I will ask Mr. Brodie for help during consult hopefully.
Week 6
Thu, Apr 24 CW- image of work completed in class

Today I finished creating the side slots and I started making my top, but it wasn’t how I wanted it, so I will remake my sketch for the compartments and have them extruded by the time I am back in class on Monday. Maybe I will even have my slots made for those too. I think I am finally on track though.🙂
Thu, Apr 24 HW – image of completed homework

I created the slots on one side, but couldn’t create the slots on the other side for some reason even though I tried repeatedly, using a different method each time. I will ask for Mr. Brodie’s help during class.
Tue, Apr 22 CW- image of work completed in class

I messed with the slots a ridiculously amount and then asked Mr. Brodie for help. I later got help from Maya who showed me an incredibly smart way to make my joints. THANK YOU MAYA!!!!!!! I will finish making the joints and then go from there.
Tue, Apr 22 HW – image of completed homework

I worked on making modifications to what Bella helped me with because she accidentally made the desktop organizer shorter while helping me. I was able to figure it out after messing with it for 30 minutes. I then worked on making the slots and ended up remaking them 3 times because I kept on doing the wrong things. I figured it out, only to not be able to extrude them. I then stopped by consult where Mr. Brodie helped me make edits to my slots sketch and I will continue to mess with it. I am posting now because I wanted to wait till I got some help during consult.
Week 5
Thu,, Apr 17 CW- image of work completed in class
Today, thanks to Bella’s extraordinary kindness, I have a much better idea of what I’m doing now and have finally made some real progress. With Bella’s help, the sides and back were made. I will TRY to create the front for homework.

Thu, Apr 17 HW – image of completed homework

I worked on creating a sketch of the front with the drawer and paper slots and then the top where dad’s stapler, paper clips, sticky notes, pushpins, writing utensils, and whatever else he needs to store will be held. In class, I will ask Mr. Brodie how I should sketch my drawer properly and then extrude all my sketches.
Tue, Apr 15 CW- image of work completed in class
Today Mr. Brodie introduced Adobe Illustrator and showed my class how to use the generator. I tired it a little and then started work on my 3D desktop organizer for dad. I wasn’t able to make much progress due to a rainbow swirl showing up every time I clicked something. It currently looks a little weird. I intend to work on the desktop organizer for homework and get a good bit of it done.

Tue, Apr 15 HW – image of completed homework
I am typing up here because I am having trouble typing under the pictures. I made four sketches of ideas and then I went into more detail with the two I thought were best. I also made some drawings of designs I plan to put on my dad’s desktop organizer. I got some feedback from my dad and he needs something to store and separate his papers in so I will draw some sketches with the slots for paper tomorrow and then check with him.
- I am not sure how to make the images under this paragraph bigger. Sorry about that Mr. Brodie.

Week 4
Fri, Apr 11 CW- image of work completed in class

Today I worked on my Actionable Problem Statement which gave me an idea of the design for my desktop organizer and my goals for it. I then worked on some rough sketches on what my desktop organizer should look like. I intend to have four completed sketch ideas by the end of the weekend.
Fri, Apr 11 HW – image of completed homework

I interviewed my dad who I will be making the desktop organizer for. I have his answers down word for word and I can’t wait to start!
Wed, Apr 9 CW- image of work completed in class

I am only just posting what I did for class due to having to leave early for an appointment. I officially finished the 3D model of my phone today!😊🤩🥳 During the rest of class, I worked on creating questions for me to interview my dad about, so I can make a desktop organizer for him.😄
Wed, Apr 9 HW – image of completed homework

I worked on the bottom of my phone, but ran into a problem. My holes on the bottom of my phone are not equal on the 3D model of my phone and I’m not sure why. I used all the same measurements on both sides, but it turned out weird. I will either pop by consult tomorrow or wait till class to ask for Mr. Brodie’s assistance.
Mon, Apr 7 CW- image of work completed in class
I will be typing up here because for some reason I am unable to type under my photos. Today I worked on the sketch for the back of my phone, creating the camera, and then I worked on the sketch for the bottom of my phone, creating the charging port. I will continue to work on the bottom for homework.

Mon, Apr 7 HW – image of completed homework

I stopped by Mr. Brodie’s classroom on Sunday and started and completed the sketches for the button and details on the side of my phone. I am proud to say that I was able to do it with no help from anyone, so yay me! Tomorrow, I will work on the back of my phone, creating the sketch for my camera.
Week 3
Thu, Apr 3 CW- image of work completed in class

I have officially finished my phone stand and know I’m working on my 3D phone model. I will be working on the details such as the face, camera, and side buttons. I also added an image of my phone from online to the 3D model of my phone and then updated the copy of my phone model on my phone stand.
Thu, Apr 3 HW – image of completed homework

Today I stopped by consult with my buddy, Eloise, where Mr. Brodie helped me make the hinge for my phone stand! For homework, I worked on combining the rest of my stand together. Tomorrow during class, I will ask Mr. Brodie about some small minor details about my stand and see what else I need to do. But I’m very proud of myself!😊
Tue, Apr 1 CW- image of work completed in class

I almost have my stand completely finished! Now I need to make my joint and I will stop by consult tomorrow with my buddy for the final Discovery Day!
Tue, Apr 1 HW – image of completed homework

I stopped by Sunday and during consult to determine what my next steps should be. I will work on the stand and joint for my phone know that I almost have my stand properly done. I just need to adjust the angel of the top ring that will have the joint.
Week 2
Sat, Mar 29 CW – image of work completed in class

I made more progress on my stand by continuing to work on the shape and determining where I want my phone to be positioned. I am close to making the joint and the part that will actually hold my phone. So far, I am on track.
Sat, Mar 29 HW – image of completed homework

Tonight, I worked on a 3D rough draft of my phone stand. I worked on making rings of different sizes and different lengths from the inside to the outside of them. My knowledge of Fusion came in handy for this work. I’m pleased with what I managed to get done tonight and intend to stay on track.
Thur, Mar 27 CW – image of work completed in class

I finally thought of an idea for a phone stand that Mr. Brodie approved and now I am working on making the 3D model of it on Fusion. It may be a bit of a struggle to figure out exactly how the stand will end up looking and work, but I’m confident that once I get farther in my work, everything will come together.
Thur, Mar 27HW – image of completed homework

This is an idea of a phone stand that I came up with using a combination different ideas. My phone stand will almost seem to be made out of balls of different shapes and sizes and I will be able to change the viewing angle with two stands attached to back that use a ball and socket joint. I don’t know if that counts as a hinge, so I will run this design by Mr. Brodie tomorrow. If he approves it, I will work on fine tuning the details.
Tue, Mar 25 CW- image of work completed in class

I made a rough outline version of my phone on Fusion and tried to think of ways for me to make use of my “Ox on a Cloud” phone stand. Sketch 1 , the phone stand I wanted to use, is too generic and complicated, so I will have to work on other ideas.
Tue, Mar 25 HW – image of completed homework

The images above show my 4 concept sketches for my phone stand. The right image is based on the ergonomic phone case with a back that can be gripped. The phone case would be made of a rubber and there would be putty within the case that could be stretched and played with. It would be a phone case with an ergonomic back, but I would be able to pull out the putty within the phone and it would act as a stand that could be adjusted when I would pull out the putty. On the left image, are my two last sketches of a phone stand where there is a 3D printed bull on a cloud on the top and angel wings on the bottom. The bull can slide back and forth on the cloud, allowing the angle to be adjusted. There would also be grooves in the bull and cloud for the phone. The tail of the bull would act as a fidget toy. There are three pairs of 3D printed wings that can be bent and there are grooves at the end of wings that when they come together, they create a stand for the phone. You only need one of the pairs of wings to make a stand.

Right here, are the elaborations of the phone stand I chose, which is sketch one. I will leave the details and such for later, so that I may focus on working on the 3D design of my phone. I will worry about the stands once I have the time.
Week 1
Sat, Mar 22 CW- image of work completed in class

I am trying to create a phone stand specific to my needs with the requirement of being able to change the viewing angle. I only finished one sketch and will finish the rest for homework. My stand may be made of a flexible cord made of rubber than can stretch and curve, attached to a sold plastic circular base that has a second base under it that can clamp onto things. The thing that will hold my phone will be able to fold and unfold as horizontal or vertical and be made of magnetic material, so it won’t break easily. The holder than can be completely folded and placed on my base.
Thu, Mar 20 CW- image of work completed in class

I officially started the 3D model of my phone and I intend to work on it for homework, so I will not fall behind. I finished 4 out of the 5 pages of the Design Thinking Process that I had to read for homework.
