There was not much that I could do for homework again because I’m back in the process of burning out my shapes.
Tue, May 6 CW- image of work completed in class
Since I the printing room was full and I was last in line, I could not print any parts today, so I do not have an image to attach here.
Tue, May 6 HW – image of completed homework

For homework tonight, I worked on making the dimensions list for the wooden sheets. I first color coded the pieces into what part if the project the belong to (like the dark blue is for the book box part of the organizer) and then I made lots of box out of the [tentative] maximum size (18 x 24). From there, I tried to come up with the most efficient way to fit all of my parts into the wood without wasting too much and without going too big. These are the measurements that I will need:
- 19 x 25
- 19.5 x 25
- 15.5 x 19.5
- 25.5 x 13
- 24 x 18
- 19.25 x 17.25
Week 7
Fri, May 2 CW- image of work completed in class

During class today, I was tasked with creating a list of dimensions for the wooden sheets that I would need in order to print my parts out. I spent most of my time waiting for the computer in the tech room to open, but I figured that I could just do it on mine instead, so I took down all of the measurements for my pieces and input that data into Adobe Illustrator in the form of rectangles. From here, I can arrange them into efficient rectangles, which will serve as the measurements for the wood sheets, without taking up too much space and time away from my classmates.

For homework today, I worked on touch ups. For instance, yesterday I did not get to cut out all of my pieces because I had missed some small things like joints and I had forgotten to say some DXF Files. As you can see in the image, I had to add joints to the drawer, and I saved the separators for the divider as a DXF file because I forgot to yesterday. Other than these quick jobs, there was not much else that I could do.
Wed, Apr 30 CW- image of work completed in class

Today in class, I cut out most of my parts for my organizer, which took a long time. I then taped them together, and this is what it looks like so far. I still have a few tiny jobs that I need to do on Fusion, and I hope to do these for homework tomorrow.
Wed, Apr 30 HW – image of completed homework
I could not do a lot for homework tonight, considering that the next part of the project is to make the cardboard model, so I worked on the design for my blog page and called it a day.
Mon, Apr 28 CW- image of work completed in class
Today in class, I got confirmation from Mr. Brodie to start the next step of the process: the cardboard trial. I then downloaded and organized all of my sketches as DXF files and put them into my folder for this project so that I would be ready to go for next class, since the printers were pretty full today. I refined my designs for the pieces I plan to engrave. I am planning on engraving the back wall, both sides, and the front of the box.

Mon, Apr 28 HW – image of completed homework

For homework today, I finish jointing the dividers and then attached them to the organizer. I then added the joints to the bottom. I did this by adding a sketch to the base of the bottom and putting in holes, and then I cut those holes from the bottom. I then extruded the holes into the side to make the joints. I also added joints to the legs by repeating the before process, but I am worried that my teacher will not be okay with this design choice. I think that I’m finished and ready to move onto the cardboard trial, but I will run my design by Mr. Brodie before moving on.
Week 6
Thu, Apr 24 CW- image of work completed in class

In class today, I worked don adding more joints to the dividers and jointing them together. I also finished the new box in class. It now has a very simple, jointed design that allows for more design options and practicality. I then jointed this box to the organizer. I still need to finish adding joints to the bottom and refining the dividers before I have to joint them to the organizer.
Thu, Apr 24 HW – image of completed homework

Lats night for homework, I worked on the new box design. It will still include Kianas name engraved on the front, but it will now be a regular box design instead of a crate. I did run into some issues when designing. For instance, when I went make the joints for the design, There was a gap between the joints and the rest of the body, so I will navigate that during class. So far, I have a base for a box and two joints that don’t work.
Tue, Apr 22 CW- image of work completed in class
Today in class, I worked on the designs that I plan to engrave on the organizer. Kaian wanted her name on the box and a star and moon type theme. I kept those things in mind when using the AI tool in Adobe Acrobat, an it came up with many ideas, and these were the ones I chose:

Also, I had a consultation meeting with Mr. Brodie about my design and he gave me some critiques. He told me t redo my box because he didn’t think hat the crate design worked with the rest of the design, so I will be working 9on that, and he also told me to add more joints to the bottom, where the computer will go and to the organizer boxes. I will work on these for homework.
Tue, Apr 22 HW – image of completed homework

Tonight for homework, I remembered that I had to have a hole for the drawer, so I added that. I then moved on to the design aspect. I have a tab for each part of the organizer that I want to have a design on. I did have trouble finding the design that I wanted to use by utilizing the AI tools, so I figured that I would find a non-copyrighted image on google for much cheaper.

I started with something simple; finding a nice font for Kaian’s name that I plan on putting on the book crate. I found the font, and then tried many methods of trying to get the lettering into the Illustrator tabs with no luck, so tomorrow, I will use class time to ask how to import the lettering/images into Adobe Illustrator.
Week 5
Thu,, Apr 17 CW- image of work completed in class

Today in class, we primarily worked on using the AI feature in Adobe Illustrator of making the design, so I did not get a lot done. I did manage to complete the legs for the design and the bottom. I have been working on the designs that will be etched onto the walls of the organizer, but I have not liked the designs that the AI has generated fro me, so I will likely end up searching the internet for copy write free designs.
Thu, Apr 17 HW – image of completed homework

For homework tonight, I finished jointing all of the pieces together for the crate. I then put the create on the top of the organizer. Kaian wanted the box to remain loose, so the box is not in the same component that the organizer is in. I also created the sketch for the dividers and extruded those pieces. Before I could joint the crate to the organizer, I had to join the floor of this section to the back wall of the box, and that reminded me that I need to join the pieces of the organizer together. I also need to fix the legs, but there than that I think I am dine with the construction section of the designing process, and then I can move onto the personalization section, for which I will be using Adobe Illustrator.
Tue, Apr 15 CW- image of work completed in class

In class today, I did not get a ton done simply because we were learning how to use Adobe Illustrator, which is what we use to create and burn the designs into the wood. I learned a lot of new methods that will come in handy in the very near future, and I am excited to be able to utilize AI for the creation of new designs. As for my digital sketch, I was only manage to joint a few pieces of the box crate, and that is how I finished class.
Tue, Apr 15 HW – image of completed homework

Today for homework, I completed the wooden crate-style box. This box will be used for books that clutter the desk. I managed to complete this box with only two sketches, and extruded everything except the bottom of the box from the sketch on the back. I would usually have completed this project much faster, but I had to look up a reference image and go between those. Also, Fusion keeps deleting the legs of the organizer, so I have to redo them each time. I will ask Mr Brodie about this in class tomorrow. In class, I hope to joint all of these pieces together and then place them on the organizer. I will then move onto the makeup and pen organizers.
Week 4
Fri, Apr 11 CW- image of work completed in class

today in class, I finished joining the pieces together, and then I had to redo my legs because they were wrong. This is because I had reconfigure the measurements for the organizer. I ended up having the add more to the width of the organizer so that I could accomplish the goal that my friend wanted for this organizer.
Fri, Apr 11 HW – image of completed homework

Tonight, I noticed some mistakes with the joints that I had made two days ago, which was that they were a different body than the base of the divider, so they were not connected. I fixed this by deleting the bodies and extruded the joints from the sketch and then instead of selecting the new body option, I selected the joint option and made sure that the side walls of the organizer were hidden. I repeated this for the other divider, and I am finished with the divers – for now. I then moved onto the box which will hold the papers and will go in the middle. I finished this, though I will probably add joints to better connect the floor of the box to the sides.
Wed, Apr 9 CW- image of work completed in class

During class, I added the decorative legs to all of the side for stability and aesthetic. I finished both dividers and their joints, and then I added the corresponding holes into the sides of the organizer. I did have to redo the dimensions o the organizer because it was too small. It is now big enough to fit the requests of the client, which was for the drawer to be able to fit two stacks of paper (hotdog style). This will also allow for more space for the book crate and the organizers.
Wed, Apr 9 HW – image of completed homework

Today for homework, I finished the back panel design and extruded it. I then made the side of the organizer from the sketch of the back panel and extruded those pieces. After, I cut out the joints for these walls. I will still need to copy and extrude the legs for the walls, but I was having trouble finding the correct spacings for the hole of the joints, and I also spent a lot of time finding the perfect curvy lines for the decorative top part of the back and the legs. In class, I hope to finish the legs and work in the bottom and the middle divider.
Mon, Apr 7 CW- image of work completed in class

During class today, I worked on my digital sketch in Fusion. I started with the back panel of the design, and I was getting very far with my design. I had nearly finished and was ready to extrude when Fusion malfunctioned and lost all of my progress about twenty minutes before class ended, so I tried to redo the work that I had done previously, and I nearly finished. This is what I managed to complete in that time.
Mon, Apr 7 HW – image of completed homework

For homework last night, I worked with Kaian, the girl that Im designing the organizer for, and found a design that looks best and is suited best for her needs. She liked the star designs that I drew on the first sketch (top left) of the organizer, and she liked the compartments from the bottom left sketch. She also liked the style of the legs of the body in the top right sketch. I drew a rough model of the combination of all o the things that she liked from each sketch and wrote them on this paper:
I wanted to add measurements to the sketches as well last night, but I didn’t have a measuring tape, and I wanted to make them as accurate as possible, so I will have to do that in class or bring a measuring tape to my dorm so that I can take measurements for homework tomorrow night.
Week 3
Thu, Apr 3 CW- image of work completed in class

These are the designs that I further refined in class. I was able to keep all of the compartments that she wanted and I added a few decorative ideas. I wanted to keep some ideas pretty minimalistic and then expand any ideas through others so that I can get a sense of how’s complex she wants this project to be. I took inspiration, in the first sketch (top left) from her concert confetti that she has on her wall, and I really want to work that in somehow, but I don’t remember exactly what the designs were, so I will check tonight. I will run these by her, of course, before I start designing the organizer, and hopefully we will be able to find the perfect sketch for her.
Thu, Apr 3 HW – image of completed homework

Last night for homework, I interviewed one of my friends, Kaian, about making her desktop organizer. She needed something for her desk that would organize her pens and makeup and give her papers and her computer a designated space. She said that her desk was too cluttered, and she wanted to become more organized. I used the same questions from the last blog entry, and I even asked her to make a rough sketch. I don’t know if the current idea is too small for the requirements of the project or if it is too simple, but I will ask Mr. Brodie. I also wrote down slightly above this sketch that she wanted to be able to fit two stacks of paper (hotdog-style) into second compartment, and she wanted the second compartment to be a sliding drawer.
I have a few good ideas on how to build on this design and how to creatively make the joints, but I will make that sketch in class and it will be in the entry blog above his one.
Tue, Apr 1 CW- image of work completed in class
Today in class, I finished my iPhone stand design. I cam in during consultation, and I searched through dozens of screws, trying to find the perfect on that would fit into the barrel. I finally found it, cut the hole, and jointed the pieces together. I then started to begin the next project, which is a specialized desktop organizer. The assignment was to create a list of 8 interview questions to ask the person that we plan to build the desktop organizer for. Here is what I came up with:

- What items do you need to store?
- Are there any compartments in particular that you would like?
- About how big or small would you like the organizer to be?
- Would you like any specific design choices, like a theme, color, or shape that you would like me to incorporate?
- What are some non-negotiable for your design?
- Do you want your name in the design or any other words/phrases?
- Would you like the organizer to be flat on the bottom or to have raised legs? If you want the organizer to be raised, do you have any style choices in mind?
- Is there anything else you would like for emergencies to know or that you want me to add?
Tue, Apr 1 HW – image of completed homework

Tonight for homework, I tried to fix the hinge joint by cutting the barrel into thirds, and then connecting the main middle part of the barrel to the back with a rectangle of metal, and then doing the same thing for the other two pieces, except I connected them to the bottom of the phone stand. I then jointed everything together and then tested what I had done, but it didn’t work, so I will be going to consult. I think that the problem is that I now don’t have a barrel for my barrel since I deleted the lego-hand style piece. I hope to completely finish my design in class tomorrow so I can move on to the desktop organizer.
Week 2
Sat, Mar 29 CW – image of work completed in class

Today in class, I started and finished both parts of the legs, and then I copied them. I decided not to do the cross bars in the end, meaning that I did to end up making the slit in the legs, because I wasn’t sure if I really liked the design. I jointed everything together, and I thought that I had finished, so I ran it by Mr. Brodie. He found a mistake in the joint between the back and the bottom of the design, so I will fix that for homework.
Sat, Mar 29 HW – image of completed homework

Today and last night for homework, I worked on the legs and the joints for the legs of the stand. I also fixed the joint for the back and bottom, so now they are perpendicularly joined together. After the joints, I completed the place where you attach the legs to the bottom, which was done last night.
This morning, I worked on the upper leg peace and the lower leg piece. I still need to smooth the edges and create the slit in the lower piece, but after that, I will have completed both pieces and they will be ready to be copied and jointed to the bottom.
Thur, Mar 27 CW – image of work completed in class

Today in class, I worked on the digital model of my phone stand. I finished and extruded the top part of the chair, which is at the top of the two pieces jointed together in this image. I also finished the main part of the bottom of the chair, which is at the bottom of the image. I still need to start the sketch on the underside of this piece, which is where the legs of the stand will go. I attempted to joint the two pieces together, and although I succeeded, I forgot to move the joint before I hit enter, so the pieces are vertical instead of perpendicular to each other. I then deleted the joint and tried to fix it, but then I couldn’t get the joint right again. I hope I can do it for homework.
Thur, Mar 27HW – image of completed homework
Tonight for homework, I decided to change the design for my phone stand because I realized that the design I had previously chosen was not going to fit the goals that I assigned myself an because I think the design was wrong for a number of reasons.

For one, I think that the drawers were going to make the stand too bulky, and they would be harder to control. I did nit like the generaL look of the design, and I think that then design I chose and made this time is far better. I decided to go back to the “chair for your phone” concept and I took inspiration from lifeguard chairs. I like this design far more, and in class I wall make double the progress to catch up.
Tue, Mar 25 CW- image of work completed in class

Today in class, I worked on refining my orthographic and online sketch. for my iPhone because if the iPhone is not accurate, then the stand won’t be either. I made the buttons on the sides of my phone, and the speakers and charging outlet on the bottom.

On paper, I double-checked my measurements and added to the sketch for the bottom and side panels. I like to have a paper copy when going back and forth from designs like this because it seems like a lot of back and forth if I only use the digital design.
Tue, Mar 25 HW – image of completed homework

This is the idea that I refined. It has drawers, so you can adjust which level your phone sits, and it has a moveable back , so you can adjust the angle as well. The adjustable back has clips to ensure the phone doesn’t fall out, and the base is perfect for a desk. There are a few problems with this design, though. It may have too many joints because each of the clips are joints and the drawers may end u blocking the speakers.
Week 1
Sat, Mar 22 CW- image of work completed in class

In class, we started to write down our ideas for the stand. I wanted my stand to be practical, adjustable, and something that will not block the sound coming out of the speakers. I also want the design to be cute or funny, and I don’t want it to take up too much room on my desk, since space is already a bit limited. I sketched down a few ideas, and this is what I came up with:
Thu, Mar 20 CW- image of work completed in class

I was not quite sure what to do in class today, so I started my phone stand. I was thinking of designing a chair-like design for my phone, but I got a bit overwhelmed with ideas, so I started with the main part of the phone stand, the back. I designed an extra tall and wide back to make sure that I had enough room, and then I started to make the line from which I wanted to design the lines. I wanted it to be kind of like a decorative chair, with a wavy carved design that narrows as you reach the top (kind of like a king’s chair)
