Section analysis & Final Product

Week 10
Fri, Nov 14 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-14
In class, I fixed the limits of the joints so they can’t rotate through the base of the lamp. Then, I changed the materials of the lamp to reflect what the lamp is. The middle ball is tinted glass so the light from the light bulb can shine through and it is representing the sun.

The colored balls on the rings, aka orbits, represent planets orbiting the sun. I also added a base for the lamp to screw onto. I am now done with my Fusion model.

Then, I clicked render on my lamp to get an image which I exported to nanobananas. I used ChatGPT to generate the following prompt for the scenery:
“Insert the provided lamp into a cozy bedroom environment, placing it on the nightstand beside the bed. The lamp should emit a faint, warm yellow glow that softly illuminates the surrounding objects. The bedroom should be dark and ambient with an overall yellow color theme. Add subtle green accent elements, including framed green-themed paintings on the walls and small succulent plants in pots lined up on the windowsill. It is nighttime outside the window, which has curtains gently framing it. The scene should feel warm, calming, and softly lit.”
This was the final result:

I finished modeling the joints. There is a rod going through the rings at the points where they connect. Each rod is jointed to the inner ring it is going through. In class, I will edit them limits on the joints so the rings can’t rotate through the base and then upload it into an ai scenery.

Wed, Nov 12 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-12

I fixed the joints and made my light bulb by sketching and revolving it. Then, I imported it into my lamp project and jointed it to the inside of the ball (so you can’t see it right now. However, once I change the material of the ball to glass, you’ll be able to see it). Next class, I need to fix the bottom of ring 4 because it randomly disappeared and fillet everything, which I already started.
Wed, Nov 12 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-12
In class, I finished the base plate and legs. I modeled the base pegs so that they are double layered for more support. Next class, I need to model the lamp bulb and cut out the designs from the base legs.

Week 9
Fri, Nov 7 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-7
Here are studio photos of my lamp. Also, I started the base for my lamp. I still have to model the base plate for the lamp, the cut outs in the legs of the base, the pegs between the rings that are joints, and the light bulb.

Fri, Nov 7 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-7

I went in during consult and took out my finished 3D print, attached the magnet onto the base, and assembled the base and pyramid together. I’m done with my luminary.
Wed, Nov 5 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-5
I 3D printed my base, glued the pieces together (and redid the joinery on one piece because it was wrong) and sketched the base of my lamp.

Wed, Nov 5 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-5
I finished the paper for my panels.

Mon, Nov 3 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-3
I continued modeling. Now the rotating joints work.

Mon, Nov 3 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-3

I went in for Sunday consult and printed my base and glued the layers and paper. I also fixed my Fusion model and now it rotates. Also, I separated the circles so the fillet will work. I had to redo all my rings.

Week 8
Thur, Oct 30 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-30

I continued modeling my lamp and finished painting my pieces. I’ll come in on Sunday to finish the luminary and modeling.

Thur, Oct 30 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-30
I mapped out the model to scale and modeled the top half on Fusion with 4 layers of rings. I want to buy wood balls off amazon and I need to ask Mr. Brodie about how I can fit the balls into the rings.

Week 7
Fri, Oct 24 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-24

Today was family weekend and I brought my mom around and showed her the printer room and other projects. She’s very impressed and wishes she could take this course herself. I painted the elements of panel 4. Also, I confirmed with Mr. Brodie about my design.
Fri, Oct 24 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-24
Because I haven’t confirmed with Mr. Brodie about the design yet so I don’t want to start modeling in Fusion yet just in case. Instead, I decided which parts of my fourth panel I’m printing (marked to the right). I was debating on wether or not to color in the outlines for the windows. I might try it in class and wipe it off if its bad.

Wed, Oct 22 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-22
In class, I painted this panel and printed the two layers of my fourth panel. I didn’t have a chance to check in with Mr. Brodie about my lamp design yet but I will next class.

Wed, Oct 22 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-22
I sketched a rough draft of what I want my lamp to look like. I will draw it to scale in class and double check with Mr. Brodie about the design. I will also draw out the separate pieces to see how they could connect together to form a shape.

Mon, Oct 20 CW – image and description of completed homework- CWDueDate 2025-10-20
In class, I painted one of my test etches to see if I want that part painted in the actual project. It looked bad with the people painted on top of it so I won’t paint it. I started painting the woman on the panel of my actual project.

Mon, Oct 20 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-20

I am starting the Lamp Design project because I everything I can do for my luminary must be done in person. To do: I need to model the lamp bulb on Fusion to import to my design as a reference.
I will start brainstorming potential designs for my lamp. I want to keep it more shape-based instead of etch heavy because I did a lot of etching for my luminary. Here are three ideas I came up with: 1. Tree, 2. Record Player, 3. Mushroom, 4. Solar System. I’ve attached my inspo pics and sketches.

Week 6
Thur, Oct 16 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-16

I test painted one of my test panels in the style of Monet. I will test paint my other test panels next class. I’ve decided to only paint elements in either the front or back panel to make them pop/ add the illusion of depth.
Thur, Oct 16 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-16
I finished both layers of detail. I also added brick texture to the frame to make it blend in with the rest of the panel. I am done with all my panels.

Next class, I will print the two layers of my fourth panel and paint my panels.

Tues, Oct 14 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-14
I printed the second layer of my third panel and almost finished panel 4. I just need to do the details for homework.

Tues, Oct 14 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-10-14
I went in to Sunday consult for the entire day from 1pm to 8pm. I finished printing all three layers of panel 1, both layers of panel 2, and layer 1 of panel three. I messed up layer 1 of panel 3 and layer 2 of panel 1 once before I got it to work (mess ups shown to the right.)

Below are my completed first and second panels (shown left to right.) I am going to paint the panels separately before I glue the layers together. Next class, I will print layer 2 of panel 3 if the printers are open, paint my panels, and finish up designing panel 4.

Week 5
Fri, Oct 10 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-10
In class, I pulled out the arch from panel one to panel four to connect the theme that panel 1 is the inside of the building. I also pulled out the columns to a separate layer. Also, the building height is the same as that of the right building in panel 3. So, the buildings should line up and look like it is wrapping around a corner when the panels are assembled. I got to class 20 minutes early at 8:10am to print but there were already 2 people there, and they took the entire class so I didn’t get to print. For homework, I will continue to work on panel 4’s etch and combine elements to form the bank building’s face.

Fri, Oct 10 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-10

I completely finished panel 3 and added a chair on the same layers as the etch, cut through, and details for the effiel tower (aka the layers with the number 1 at the end.) This chair as well as the arches on the buildings will serve as the visual connectors between panel 2 and 3. I used ChatGPT to create a prompt for panel 4 based on my sketch:
Create a clean, architectural concept design of a modern triangular-shaped building. The structure should feature a central tower with a dome on top and a symmetrical front facade with vertical paneling. Include a triangular roof section with a circular window in the center. The entire design should be enclosed in a large, abstract triangle, inspired by modern architectural framing. Use a minimalistic vector art style with clean lines, soft highlights in light green and yellow, and a plain white background. Do not include any references to real-world landmarks.
However, as shown to the right next to my finished panel 3, it didn’t work. So, I will fix that tomorrow. I also need to print my panels tomorrow so I need to get to class early.

Wed, Oct 8 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-8
In class, I continued working on my panel. I generated a bunch of other iterations but didn’t like any of them. I am going to use the original panel for my third side. I did 2 layers of etch, 2 layers of detail, and 2 layers of cut through for panel 3. I also changed the colors of the details for more contrast. The Eiffel tower will be behind the buildings to create depth.

Wed, Oct 8 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-8
I created the etch for my third panel. The buildings on the left need tweaking to match the style of the background of the second panel. I need to print in class tomorrow.

Mon, Oct 6 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-6
I printed all three layers of panel 1 but the vector etching got messed up on two layers. I am going to reprint on Wednesday. I used the old printer because it was the only one open so my settings were different than the ones I used on my trials. I inserted a photo of my settings below.

Mon, Oct 6 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-6
I spend 2 hours and completely finished the first and second panels. I have 3 layers of etch, 3 layers of detail, and 3 layers of outline for panel 1. I have 2 layers of etch, 2 layers of detail, and 2 layers of outline for panel 2. I will print them in class tomorrow.

Week 4
Fri, Oct 3 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-3
I did my test print. I need to add more vector details to the stone arch and change the colors to have more contrast between all the pieces. I also reworked and reorganized all my layers. it’s hard to tell, but I did A LOT of cleaning up and moved things around so that they’re all on the right layers.

Fri, Oct 3 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-3
I spent the last 2 hours fixing the details of the second panel to connect it to the first so that you can tell the concept is that the first panel is the inside of the second panel. I did the 2 vector layers because my panels are going to have multiple layers. I need to edit the vector on the first panel into 3 layers to reflect the 3 layers I need to print. Tomorrow, I will do my test etch prints.

Tues, Sept 30 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-30
After finishing the etch of the first panel for homework, in class, I used the shape builder tool to cut out parts that I want the light to show through (option key to delete.) I also extended the image to the edges of the panel. Then, I imported a photo of the drafts of the panels I drew into ChatGPT and asked it to make me a prompt:

A triangular pyramid-shaped facade of a Gothic cathedral with tall, arched windows and ornate tracery, in the style of Claude Monet. Painted in dappled green and yellow tones, with soft brush strokes capturing light and shadow. The view should include a cobblestone street and a small café table outside, evoking a romantic Parisian street.
I edited the colors in the prompt to say grayscale. After I chose a panel I liked, I used the shape builder tool to extract parts where the light will shine. For homework, I will finish the sketches. I will try and come in for consult to do my test prints before Friday but I might not be able to because we don’t have class on Thursday. If I can’t make consult, I’ll do the prints during class on Friday.
Tues, Sept 30 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-30
I finished designing the first panel. I grayscaled my ai generated images and adjusted the colors for higher contrast. I haven’t fully decided which parts of the sketch to cut out yet because this is slightly different from my paper sketch. I’ll probably base my choice off of the paper sketch though.

Week 3
Fri, Sept 26 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-26

I did a trial print and confirmed that my sides work. After confirming the shape, I exported the dxf files and started designing my first panel based off of my concept sketch. I used chatgpt to enhance my prompts for the AI art generator.
ChatGPT enhanced prompt:
A theatrical stage as seen from the audience, framed so the final image fits into a triangular shape (8-inch base, 12-inch equal sides). The perspective should emphasize depth toward the center of the triangle. The stage floor is shown in black and white, with polished wooden planks rendered in monochrome highlights and shadows.

The backdrop resembles the nook beneath a French building — an arched recess with subtle stone textures, shaded to suggest depth. The style is Impressionist, inspired by Claude Monet, but entirely in black and white, with expressive brushstrokes and soft diffusion of light. No actors, no props — only the stage floor and the architectural backdrop. The overall mood should be dramatic, atmospheric, and painterly, with lighting that guides the viewer’s eye toward the center of the triangular perspective.
Fri, Sept 26 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-26

I created a new project and designed the sides based on the adjustments I marked last class. I will use cardboard to test print these sides next class.
Wed, Sept 24 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-24
I kept modeling my design on Fusion and cut out the middle piece. I also unjointed the pieces because Fusion was being weird and not jointing them at the right angle. Then, I printed my pieces to test them out. I realized I forgot to cut out the bottom section of the sides on one of the two types of sides (the side where the tip of the triangle extends past the top.) Also, I need to cut off the top of the side I just mentioned because the tips overlap when the pieces are jointed together. Also, I made my tabs too deep. I am going to remodel my pyramid on Fusion with tabs that are 0.1875 or 3/16 of an inch deep.

Wed, Sept 24 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-24
I worked on modeling my shape in Fusion. I finished the other 3 sides of my pyramid, but when I tried to joint the pieces together, the shape turned out really weird. The tops of the triangles are overlapping and once the four sides were joined, the first and fourth sides didn’t line up.

Mon, Sept 22 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-22

Today, in class, I drew a to scale image of my luminary project and figured out the measurements. The base will be 8 by 8 inches and the sides will be 12 inches. I started modeling my image on fusion.
I need to remember that when I do the intersecting parts, I need to make them longer than the depth of the material because the crossover between the pieces won’t be perpendicular.
Mon, Sept 22 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-22
My panels are going to depict scenes from France (because that’s where Monet’s from and it’s my dream vacation spot) in Monet’s style, which as I explained before, is significant to me. I’m using a pyramid shape because I want the corners to wrap around like the corners of a street. I marked places I want to push back into the pyramid. Next class, I will model my shape on Fusion to figure out how it works.

Week 2
Fri, Sept 19 CW – Image and description of completed homework. – CWDueDate 2025-9-19
I did my first rough sketch. I am going to use AI to generate a few ideas for homework and tweak my sketch.

I figured out that my previous design won’t work because the AI generator can’t generate images with copyright (aka avengers superheros.) I am changing my theme to artwork inspired my monet’s works. This theme matters to me because he is one of my favorite artists. I have imitated his paints mutiple times and have his prints on my walls at my house.

He inspired me to start taking painting classes in 5th grade. I will incorporate my theme across panes by depicting different scenery in the same style. The scenery will be connected between the panels. Here are some inspiration pics I found:
Fri, Sept 19 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-19
For homework, I gathered some inspiration photos.

I am going to try take parts of these photos and incorporate them into my prompts for the AI generator.

Wed, Sept 17 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-17
Today, I decided to switch the theme of my panels. They are now going to show a scene from Avengers Infinity War. The lamp is going to show four of me and my brother’s favorite characters battling Thanos and his minions, which are the main enemies in the movie. I will use an AI image generator to create this scene. I also generated ideas on the shape of the lamp for my design. The scene is going to be 3D, with elements in the air and on the street, so the lamp shape can’t be a rectangle because then I wouldn’t be able to do different street depths.

Wed, Sept 17 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-17
I went in on Sunday during GCAD open hours to run more test runs (my second and third.) My second test run did not work as the details were too dark and the different shades of gray in my etch weren’t differentiable (figure 3.) I used the default settings for the first one. For my third attempt (figure 1,) I ran the default etch twice and used speed 50, power 30, and frequency 40 for the details. Figure 2 is a piece of wood I recorded the settings for my second and third attempt on.

Week 1
Fri, Sept 12 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-12

Today, while I was waiting to reprint my panel, I started my luminary project. First, I brainstormed ideas including marvel characters, different animals that live in lakes, the beach, and different types of fish. I settled on marvel characters as my final theme.

I am going to do a different marvel character on each panel (Loki, Iron Man, Wanda, and Spiderman.) Marvel movies have always been important to me because I watch them to relax. I also have a tradition with my brother where we watch the newest marvel movie together while it is in theaters.
Marvel has helped me spend time with my family and have something to talk about with my friends. I will connect the panels by making the backgrounds a street in New York and having all the characters work together to fight off monsters.

Fri, Sept 12 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-9-12
For homework, I saved all of my layers into a folder so I can print them easily. I went in for consult on September 11 and printed my panel. I’m going to sand it down in class to see if the etch is good or if I have to redo it.

Wed, Sept 10 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-10
My outline for the bird got deleted so I redid it. Also, I adjusted the bird’s colors to have more contrast between the shades. I also combined my layers into 3 (etch, outline, and dark black outline) for easier navigation.

Wed, Sept 10 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-10

I went back in and added extra points to make the outline for the shapes more precise. If you zoom in on the areas around the pheonix’s wings and the second dog’s ears, you will see the outline matches up more.
Mon, Sept 8 CW – Image and description of completed homework- CWDueDate 2025-9-8
Today, I outlined the images and made a new workspace. I used the text to image generator to make a phoenix.
