Set Units = Centimeters

Create a New Component Named Base



  1. Create New Sketch
  2. Select Front Plane
  3. Sketch drawing
  4. Finish Sketch
  5. Press E for extrude
  6. Set Direction to Symmetric
  7. Select coplanar closed sketch profiles or faces to extrude
  8. Extrude main part of base 3 cm


  1. Press E for extrude
  2. Extrude middle section 42 cm
    • Operation : Join
  3. Press E for extrude
  4. Select two smaller squares by clicking and holding down the mouse button
    • Operation: Cut


  1. Press F for fillet
  2. Select 9 edges
  3. Fillet .5 cm


Create Side Peg

  1. Create New Sketch
  2. Select side of base
  3. Sketch drawing – Circle diam 1.5 cm
  4. Press D for dimension
    • Place hole 4 cm up from bottom and 6 cm from back edge
  5. Press E for extrude
  6. Extrude peg – 1 cm


Create a New Component Named Link 1

  • Right mouse click on main Assembly
  • Create New Component – Link 1


  1. Create New Sketch and select side of base
  2. Press P for project
  3. Select circular edge of peg geometry and project to sketch
  4. Create 2 – point rectangle
  5. Change Feature Options to 3 – Point Rectangle
  6. Draw Sketch
  7. Finish Sketch

  1. Press E for extrude
  2. Select two profiles that make up the face of side
  3. Extrude 1 cm
  1. Make previous sketch visible
  2. Select circle from previous sketch
  3. Press E for extrude
  4. Extrude peg 2 cm
  5. Press F for fillet
  6. Fillet edges 1.5 cm

Create a New Component Named Link 2

  1. Right mouse click on main Assembly
  2. Create New Component named Link 2


  1. Create New Sketch
  2. Select side face of Link 1
  3. Press P for Project
  4. Project the top hole geometry to the sketch
  5. Create 2 – point rectangle
  6. Draw Sketch rectangle – 3 cm x 30cm
  7. Press D for dimension
  8. Center peg 1.5 cm
  9. Finish Sketch
  1. Press E for extrude
  2. Select the 3 profile areas that make up the face of link 2
  3. Extrude 1cm
  4. Press F for Fillet
  5. Fillet four corners 1.5 cm

  1. Press H for hole
  2. Select face of link 2
  3. Set Hole diameter to 1.5 cm
  4. Select reference and click on circular edge
  5. Set Shape Settings
    • Extents = All
    • Hole Type = Simple
    • Hole Tap Type = Simple
    • Drill Point = Flat

Create a New Component Named Slider

  1. Right mouse click on main Assembly
  2. Create New Component named Slider
  1. Create new Sketch
  2. Select front face of base
  3. Press P to project and select front face of base
  4. Place first corner of rectangle tangent to circles on the left
  5. Draw rectangle 4 cm wide x 5 cm tall
  6. Finish Sketch
  1. Press E for extrude
  2. Select drawing and extrude -8 cm
  3. Press F for fillet
  4. Fillet edges .5 cm
  1. Create New Sketch on side of slider
  2. Center circle with diameter of 1.5 cm
  3. Finish Sketch
  4. Press E for extrude and extrude – 3 cm

Assemble Model With Joints

Right click on Base component and ground object

  1. Under Assemble, select As-Built-Joint
  2. Set Joint Type to Revolute
  3. Select Link 1 for first component
  4. Select the base for second component
  5. Select a snap point to place the Joint Origin
  6. Rotate should be set to Z Axis
  7. Click Animate to preview joint motion
  1. Right Mouse Click, select Repeat As-Built-Joint
  2. Set Joint Type to Revolute
  3. Select Link 2 for first component
  4. Select the Link 1 for second component
  5. Select a snap point to place the Joint Origin
  6. Rotate should be set to Z Axis
  7. Click Animate to preview joint motion
  1. Under Assemble, select Joint
  2. Capture Position
  3. Set Joint Type to Revolute
  4. Select Link 2 for component 1
  5. Select the slider for component 2
  6. Rotate should be set to Z Axis
  7. Click Animate to preview joint motion
  • Slider moves away from base
  • Slider needs to be in place so move back one step in time line
  1. Under Assemble, select As-Built-Joint
  2. Set Joint Type to Slider
  3. Select Slider for first component
  4. Select the Base for second component
  5. Select a snap point to place the Joint Origin
  6. Slide should be set to Z Axis
  7. Click Animate to preview joint motion

Move Slider forward in timeline

Open Joints in Browser and animate model !

  • Press A for appearance
  • Apply color to components
