Problem Statement

We need a reproducible iPhone stand that fits this model and it’s case that allows for charging and front facing camera access while stood up, as well as not block the sound coming from the bottom of the phone, making the phone stand useful for charging while playing video, recording, or facetiming.

Industrial Revolution Video

Instead of access to a new source of power or novel technological advancement, our current industrial revolution is fueled by accessibility. Everyone with a computer and internet access can now view information on pretty much anything they could want to learn about and on top of that, they have access to software that can help you realize any idea. The commercialization of laser and 3D printers only increase this accessibility to create, giving the everyday joe an alternative to ordering factory made parts or prototypes. Our class utilizes software and tools in the same way, taking advantage of Rhino and the tools available at school to design and build objects that we would otherwise have to either order on amazon or chisel out a solid block of wood.

Final Project

Empathize – I’m moving to Connecticut at the end of June and I plan to get quails to keep for egg laying. There are specific products I need to buy for keeping quail such as a waterer shallow enough to stop chicks from drowning and a contained feeder that will stop the adult quail from wasting food. I also need to build a hutch which I’ve already modeled on Rhino as a personal project and nest boxes for the quail to lay in making their eggs easier to collect. I’ve also looked on line for a reusable quail egg size egg box but all I can find are plastic or cardboard ones for commercial egg production. I want something we can keep in the fridge to collect eggs in during the week once our quails are old enough to lay but also something I can put in a homemade incubator to hold eggs in place at different angles throughout the day.

Define – Design an egg collection box with pieces that can be either 3D printed or laser cut which will hold 1 weeks worth of quail eggs (10 quails, 1 egg each per day, so a max of 70 eggs) and that is reproducible and stackable to fit in the fridge. Bonus if my mom finds it aesthetically pleasing enough to actually want to use in the house.
