Week 9
Fri, Nov 8 CW – image of work completed in class
today in class I worked not eh album cover and came up with the idea of just doing the album in a square box. I will use the laser cutter and have the bear “floating” by putting a stick in the back so it is popping out of the Frame giving it more of a 3d-look.

In class, I was able to use the exact knife to get out the tree I printed from last class. I also printed out all of my final wood layers and worked on coming up with solutions on how I am going to give the moon a button and transparent look.

Tue, Oct 22 HW – image of completed homework
For homework I connected coraline to the land.

Week 6
Fri, Oct 18 CW – image of work completed in class
During class, I printed out two of my layers and started connecting the coraline layer to the ground because I thought that anything printed of paper could “float around,” which is incorrect. therefore, the moon will be transparent illuminating onto all of the other figures. My first cut did not go all the way through, but there is a chance I will be able to cut out the shapes rather than fully reprint.

Fri, Oct 18 HW – image of completed homewor
No hw- finished in class
Wed, Oct 16 CW – image of work completed in class
In class, first I made my tree details less intricate for printing and decided to separate the moon and the land. Then I did a test print and fixed the areas that were too thin as well as areas on my other layers that would possibly be too thin.

Wed, Oct 16 HW – image of completed homework
For homework, I connected the shapes to the borders and extended the trees so I am ready to print.

Mon, Oct 14 CW – image of work completed in class
In class we did woodshed work and started making our frames for our mandalas.
Mon, Oct 14 HW – image of completed homework
I connected all of the pieces to make it ready to print. I was thinking that I would make the button/land and the trees wooden with light shining through the holes and small crevices, while coralline and the cat would be transparent.

Week 5
Thur, Oct 10 CW – image of work completed in class
Initially, I made a house for my last layer, but decided it didn’t fit in with the design and was a little too intricate, so I decided to replace it with a tree and began to edit my deign for the laser cutter.

This class I started with paint combinations. Then, I printed a piece of my mandala to ensure it wasn’t too small and printed out the entire third layer.

Mon, Sept 23 HW – image of completed homework
For homework, I worked on filling empty space and connecting the pieces. I also made it available to laser cut. (Late because I was unable to upload initially.)

Week 2
Thur, Sept 19 CW – image of work completed in class
Today in class I worked on making my own mandala with the help from the video yesterday. I focused a lot of making sure everything was connected and the rotate tool was extremely helpful.

Thur, Sept 19 HW – image of completed homework
For homework I watched the video and recreated the layered mandala. I learned about the importance or connecting certain objects so it remains in tact while being laser cut as well as how to add more decorations to designs, specifically mandalas, to take away the simplicity. When I went to copy the layers, it kept making new blank layers so I was not able to move towards the pathfinder steps and on and will need help with that specific step during class.

Tue, Sept 17 CW – image of work completed in class
I worked on the sample mandala Mr. Brodie showed in class and used the laser cutter to cut it out. This helped in understanding line weights, more specifically what is too thin. I also started the homework and began to make process utilizing layers.

Tue,, Sept 17 HW – image of completed homework
For homework I watched the video and followed the steps to learn about different/new tools and resources that will be useful in created mandalas and other designs. I also learned a lot about the grid and centering objects as well as how to copy/paste and move objects around in an organized, clean fashion.

Week 1
Sat, Sept 14 CW – image of work completed in class
The printer was not working for me during class-came back Monday consult.

(Monday Consult): When putting the text to a smaller scale, the the lines were too thin for the laser cutter. If it would’ve cut all the way through it most likely would have burned.
Sat, Sept 14 HW – image of completed homework
no homework
Thur, Sept 12 CW – image of work completed in class
I took out the fill of the letters, worked on connecting and grouping my letters and hearts as well as adding a pattern fill. I also fixed the shape of the hearts by tracing to make it one shape instead of multiple shapes together.

Thur, Sept 12 HW – image of completed homework
I worked on my second design by organizing my letters specifically how I wanted them to be and cut/adjusted certain letters to better the heart placement and stacking the two words on top of one another.

Tues, Sept 10 – image of completed classwork
I worked on coming up with two designs and how I wanted the words to go together/connect. I was able to complete my first one and start my second.
