I did my prompt and image generation for Bauhaus and Surrealism, and I wrote my final paragraph for the Renaissance. All work is below.

Actual Renaissance Painting I chose: Calumny of Apelles by Sandro Boticelli.

Actual Bauhaus image I chose: A photograph of a living room designed in a Bauhaus style. (livingetc.com)

Actual Surrealism painting I chose: Lovers by Rene Margritte

Prompt for Bauhaus: A living room designed with a bauhaus style. It is simplistic and modern. the decoration lacks a wide range of colors other than white and the primary colors. Everything is arranged from practicality, and it is overall very modern. There is a lot of glass, steel, and concrete present.

Prompt for Surrealism: A painting of a man and women standing close to each other. Only the top half of their bodies are visible. The main wears a suit and the women wears a dress. You cannot view their faces because they are covered in white cloth. It is an image from the era of surrealism. There is a dull landscape behind them. The painting is done in the style of oil painting.

Final comparison of the Renaissance images: I feel as if Firefly did an okay job at recreating the art style. I think that it accurately recreated the vibrant colors and light that many renaissance paintings include, as well the oil paint composition of the painting I am comparing it to. The image that I generated does include human features, but it displays them in an inaccurate way compared to the painting. The AI generated image lacks the ideas of humanism that are incorporated into most Renaissance paintings, and the humans in the picture have nowhere near the amount of detail that their counterparts in the painting have. I was overall impressed with how the AI interpreted this prompt, as one could believe it was an actual painting without taking a closer look. The extremely bright color scheme and lack of details with the people were expected. I believe that this reveals the complexity and detail that was put into creating humans within Renaissance artwork, and the strong emphasis on humanism. The AI gets a 6/10.

Final comparison of Bauhaus images: For the Bauhaus/modernism art style, the AI did a terrific job. It accurately captured the Bauhaus style of simplicity and practicality, showing the large, open glass windows and simplistic furniture and decoration. Along with this, the AI was able to portray common colors of this art style in the image, with shades of white, red, blue, and yellow all being shown in the image. The AI also portrayed the modern color schemes of the carpets and couches very well, and it also presents the ideas of open space and floor plan that the movement emphasizes. If I were to look at the real image and the AI one, I think I would have a hard time determining which is which. The one thing that the AI image is lacking as opposed to the real one is it includes a bit too much decoration, when in reality the Bauhaus style is all about complete simplicity and only including things for practicality, making some of the decoration unnecessary and looking out of place with the art style. I would give the AI image a 9/10 for this movement.

Final Comparison of Surrealism Images: The AI did a solid job at portraying the surrealism art movement’s components. The landscape is very accurate to other surrealist paintings, as it is barren and strange. The color composition of the background is also very accurate, with darker shades of colors being utilized with a plain background. The human concept is where the AI became inaccurate. Even though I specifically asked the AI to cover the faces of the people, it still resulted in the people looking very accurate. Realistic images do not follow the themes of surrealism, making the image not accurate to the theme of surrealism. This visual element is not convincing. The people should be skewed or altered in some way to simply make them look less real. The actual painting I used alters the viewer’s perspective on the people because of the covering of their faces, whilst this one does not. However, the painting I generated does add a surreal element of the white rags on the people, showing some trace of the mind flowing freely painting. I think that this was the AI’s worst work. I would give it a 5/10. It missed some elements, but also captured some. The color scheme is completely right, but the ideas of surrealism are not properly portrayed.

Tonight for homework I begun comparing the AI Generated images to the actual works of art that emerged from these time periods. Tonight I did the Renaissance. Here was the prompt I used: A group of people arguing in a large, fancy hall. It takes place during the renaissance era. It is a painting from the renaissance era. It looks like it was created through oil painting. There are bright and vibrant colors. It focusses on the details of the people. This took me longer than expected because I was having trouble downloading and signing in to Adobe Firefly.

Today in class I finished all of my paragraphs for the AI Art History Challenge, and finished my Luminary design project. Here are the paragraphs:

  1. Renaissance: The Renaissance was an art movement that emerged in around 1300 BCE in Italy, and lasted a couple hundred years until the fall of Rome in 1527. The Renaissance was mostly due to the growth of humanism, which was a philosophy emphasizing human potential, reason, and individual achievement. This inspired artists to depict humans in art more realistically. Art was defined by the aspects of realism and naturalism, with figures looking more like their real-life comparisons. Art also began to look more 3D, with illusions of depth and a vanishing point being used. The Renaissance’s art was fueled by the funding of wealthy merchant families, who subsidized the work of artists at the time. Some notable artists during the time period are Leonardo De Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. Artwork of the time became more present in churches or wealthy areas–these works being funded by the wealthy merchant families mentioned earlier. The Renaissance spread all across Europe and different states put their own twist on the art genre, but the style began to fade following the sack of Rome in 1527 and conflict within the Church.
  2. Bauhaus/Modernism: The Bauhaus art style was a modernistic architecture movement that was founded in 1919 in Weimer, Germany by architect Walter Gropius. This style looked to replace traditional materials of wood, brick, and stone with glass, steel and concrete. Supporters of this new style shamed traditional architecture and trapped older styles in posters, attempting to replace them with brash, bold, and exciting modern new structures. Much of the movement emerged from architects in the 1920s hoping to create a better world. Though few modern designs with lots of glass and flat surfaces were actually put into motion, new tools and techniques were discovered and glass, steel, and concrete became sought after within these new techniques. The movement saw many stores and open-plan spaces utilize these new designs in the 1930s, with steel and large sheets of glass being used frequently. The architecture style was quite controversial, with many people criticizing the loss of “human warmth” within them, whilst others praised the practical and hygienic designs. The style spread all across the globe, with many different places putting their own spin on the modernistic architecture style.
  3. Surrealism: Surrealism in artwork began in the 1920s. The movement originated in Paris, France, and was initially led by Andre Breton. It tried to portray imagination, dreams, and the unconscious mind rather than real-life images. This led to many dreamlike, strange, and unrealistic scenes within artwork. Surrealism mixes unrelated objects together, and distorts and alters many forms of reality. In Surrealism, some common images are clocks, eyes, and mirrors. These objects are used to represent thoughts and emotions. Some artists even used automatic drawing, which is drawing without thinking, in order to let their minds flow freely. Surrealism was meant to “liberate the mind” from oppressive forces of the world, and was more of an ideology than an art movement. Some notable artists of the time period were Salvador Dali, Frida Kahlo, and Rene Margitte.

Initially, I was expecting to do my paragraphs for homework. However, I ended up going to sunday consultation and completing my luminary design challange. I started off by using an x-acto blade to smooth out the edges of the paper, and then I used glue, rubber bands, and clips in order to hold the final product together.

Thur, Nov 6 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-6

In class today I started by glueing the paper on each of my unfinished panels. Then, whilst I waited for the glue to dry, I finished my first paragraph for the AI History Art Challenge, and began my second. The writing process went extremely quickly because of how I structured by background research. Once I waited half an hour, I cut out each of the panels so that only the negative space was covered by the paper. All I need to do now is just put the pieces together and add the actual light.

Thur, Nov 6 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-6

Tonight I decided that instead of writing my first paragraph I would add on to my research about surrealism, as I felt as if what I had already wasn’t enough. Now, I have extremely detailed notes for all the art movements and my paragraphs should take no time at all. I should be able to make a lot of progress on this project now that my luminary is virtually done. I used Wikipedia to find this extra information, and I labeled the painting I used as an example because I forgot to do it last time.

Tue, Nov 4 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-4

Today in class I printed my final 2 panels. I used the laser cutter and printed the first one, and then I had enough time to do the second one so I just did it. Everything went smoothly with the engraving, linework, and through cuts. After I finished printing, I used the sander on my two new panels so that everything was smoothed out. All I need to do with this project now is add the paper to the background of panels 3 and 4.

Tue, Nov 4 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-4

For homework I finished my background research. I picked surrealism for my final art style, and wrote some notes about it. Writing my paragraphs should be extremely quick because of this research. https://www.metmuseum.org/essays/surrealism

Fri, Oct 31 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-31

Today in class I finished my research for my first and second art styles. I began by wrapping by my research for the renaissance period, still using the website I found last night. Then, I found an example picture of this era, using the iconic Mona Lisa by Leonardo De Vinci. After this, the second art style I chose was Bauhaus/modernism, as I have always been interested in architecture ever since I was little. I found an informative website and proceeded to gather information about this art style. I used a picture of a modernistic house as my reference photo. For homework, I will finish my background research and write my paragraphs.

Fri, Oct 31 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-31

Tonight for homework I began my final project of the term. The first art era/type I decided to choose was the Renaissance, as I have always been interested in history, and this time period was a defining one in the progression of European societies. Tonight I simply spent the time gathering background information that will help me write my paragraph for tomorrow. I found a good information source-https://smarthistory.org/reframing-art-history/art-italian-renaissance-republics/ and took notes from it on a google doc.

Wed, Oct 29 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-29

Today in class I finished my second Mandala. I like how this one came out more than the previous one, and this will be the design I print. I started off today by adding more connector lines from the exterior “petals” to the frame using the pen tool and the rotate tool and repeating this process across multiple layers. Then, I cut a square in half using the direct selection tool and added the half square to each corner of my design, one stroke for each layer. I finished the design up by adding lines going around the border using the pen tool, with the middle and top layers being visible there. Finally, I outlined all of the stroke and grouped everything together, making sure that all of my layers are good to go when the time comes to use the laser cutter.

Wed, Oct 29 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-29

Tonight for homework I made a lot of progress on my second Mandala. I started off my connecting all of my layers to the frame of the design. I copied and pasted the connector lines and used the rotate tool in order to do this. Then, I added lines on my back layer to add more detail to the exterior layer using the pen tool and then I reflected these lines across the entire design. I finished up by adding a half circle that I cut with the direct selection tool to all of my layers.

Thur, Oct 23 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-23

I was not in class. (Athletic requirement)

Thur, Oct 23 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-23

Tonight for homework I just continued with my final layered Mandala. I started off my redoing some of the exterior petals of the “flower”, making it so that they were only comprised of singular shades, adding variation to the design. Then, I added the frame that each element will connect to, utilizing my different layers and the “paste in front” command. Finally, I began connecting each layer to the frame of the design, adding connector lines to each layer. I already like my design a lot more than the previous one, and I should have it done and ready to go by the end of the long weekend.

Tue, Oct 21 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-21

Today in class I continued with the layered Mandalas. I finished up my first one adding detail around the perimeter of the center with the pen tool and rectangle tool. I then followed the processes of reflecting and copying these details to create a pattern. Then, I moved on to my second layered Mandala. I started off my following the same procedure as last time, adding a guides and swatches layer to make the project easier as I go through it. Then, I began creating a pattern by reflecting the elipses on each of my layers, making the design have more depth. I created two sequences of “petals”.

Tue, Oct 21 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-21

Tonight for homework I added a lot of detail to my layered Mandala. I started off by connecting all of my layers on the flower to the frame. Then, following the processes of creating lines/elipses with the pen tool or elipses tool I added these shapes to one region of my design. Once I had these down, I used the process of rotating and reflecting these shapes around the entire design, adding an element of the shape to each one of my layers.

Fri, Oct 17 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-17

Today in class I finished my second panel on the laser cutter. Everything worked out well this time, but in my first time using the right side laser cutter I noticed that it lacks the contrast between my images, and things look a little bit faded. Still, I am happy with the result. After cutting, I cut out my background paper and glued it to the back. Now I am waiting for the glue to dry to my panel will be officially complete. Whilst I waited for the glue to dry, I also did some work on my layered Mandala, connecting each layer to the frame.

Fri, Oct 17 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-17

I also came into consult and scaled down my mandala and added an outline.

Tonight for homework I just continued on with my layered Mandala. I was having a lot of trouble with the tools that he used in the videos, so I was not able to make a lot of progression tonight. I was able to add more of a background layer to the petals and create a new layer for my outline. I need to find a way to scale down my entire design, as it is too large for the outline to fit in. I spent a long time looking up how to do that but I found no solution. Tomorrow in class I will finish my 2 luminary design panels and hopefully this Mandala.

Wed, Oct 15 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-15

Today in class I had an unsuccessful print. My design was coming out very nicely for my second panel, but as I began the throughcut of the outlines of my negative space and panel cutout a line that I had not previously seen ruined my entire panel. The laser cut right through where it shouldn’t have. It is frustrating, but now I know that the line is the only thing I need to fix. After I finished printing, I continued work on my layered mandala, still following the tutorial.

Wed, Oct 15 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-10-15

Tonight for homework I started my layered mandala design. Through following the tutorial, I created my layers and swatches, added my guides, and created my first shape, using the eye dropper tool with my swatches to color it. These swatches will be extremely useful in my design project, as I will be able to do everything quickly and I can get the outline colors easily without manually doing it through a swatch menu. I got through around 13 minutes of the video in my 30 minutes of homework time, so I should easily finish the mandala tomorrow in class.

Mon, Oct 13 CW – Image and description of completed homework- CWDueDate 2025-10-13

Today in class I finished my first Mandala. I tried to put as much detail into the design as possible, as the techniques I am using now will help me with my final project. I practiced using various tools such as the reflect tool, elipses tool, and pen tool. Some of the reflections that the guy did in the video were hard for me to do with my design, so it took me a while to complete and I had to do a portion of the design manually. For homework I will begin my second Mandala.

Mon, Oct 13 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-10-13

Tonight for homework I continued with the tutorial for the next design project, and made a small adjustment to my luminary design project. I used the elipse tool to add another segmant of lines to my mandala and I used the scissor tool to trim it down. Then, I inserted dots around the shapes to add more of a pattern, and used the pen and shape insert tools to work on the center of the design. I found that the rotate tool that was used in the video was hard to use. For my luminary design project, I increased the contrast of the Willis Tower to make sure that it didn’t look like one blob of dark gray.

Thur, Oct 9 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-9

Today in class I completed my first panel for the luminary design project, and I also started the next project. My panel’s paper was already dry when I got to class today, I so just had to cut in out with the blade which was super quick. Then, because there was such a hold up for the laser cutters, I started watching the tutorial for our next project. I started by setting up my guide layer that will help me place objects around the center throughout the project. Then, I used the elipse tool to create elipses around the center point, and the rotate tool and CommandD in order to set them up in a pattern. Finally, I copy and pasted circles in the center of the design. I wasn’t able to print today, but I am hoping to get my panels done tomorrow in consult or possibly in Sunday consult.

Thur, Oct 9 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-9

Tonight I had no homework because I have my illustrator design completely finished, and I have already started the process of printing my full-scale design with the laser cutter. I will come in during consult to hopefully get started on my next panel tomorrow, and I will make edits to the panel I have completed if nessecary.

Tue, Oct 7 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-7

Today in class I did a cut of my first official panel. I began by loading my file into the computer of the laser cutter and splitting my artwork into four separate panels. This allowed me to select the one panel to print my artwork on. I had the laser cutter print panel 1 today. The raster etching, vector line work, and vector throughout, all cam out looking very good. The increase in contrast I did with the track and the car really helped to improve the design. After I finished up with the laser cutter, Mr. Brodie showed me how to use the sander in order to even out the depth of the cutting. Then, I decided I wanted to use a red background for my panel because I think it will look good with the lighter shades of brown that my design mostly consists of. I glued my design down to a red sheet of paper and then attached the paper to the back of it with the help of Mr. Brodie. I am hoping to come to consult in the coming week in order to finish all of my panels.

Tue, Oct 7 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-7

Tonight for homework I continued to make minor adjustments to my design. I began by using the pen tool to adjust the shoes of the driver on panel 4, as he previously just had cutouts for laces which looked strange with my design. Then, I used the pen tool to outline more negative space under the checkerboard that spans across all four panels. This helped me further connect my artwork. Finally, I made some more minor adjustments to the contrast of the car on panel 2, as the shades of gray were previously not much different than those on the wall. I am hoping I will be able to come to consultation tomorrow to continue with test prints, but I may not be able to as I have to go to other classes to make up for work I missed on Saturday.

Sat, Oct 4 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-4

Sat, Oct 4 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-4

Tonight I had very little to do other than some small contrast adjustments. I adjusted the color of the curbing on panel 1, and I made the driver darker as the darker colors seem to stand out very strongly with the laser cutter. I am hopeful that these changes will make it so the objects that I will have line work done on will stand out very nicely. I won’t be in class tomorrow, so I will do some cuts on Monday during consult.

Wed, Oct 1 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-1

Today in class I did my first test print. I took a small 4×4 piece of wood and printed a small portion of my design on it. From just this small portion I learned a lot. Firstly, I am pretty happy with my detailing. I think the line work of the car came out really nicely. However, it is clear that my design needs a lot more contrast in order to be better. So, I went back into illustrator and began to up the contrast between the car and the track. I made the track a much lighter shade of gray in order for the car to stand out a lot more.

Wed, Oct 1 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-1

For homework I fixed my error in panel 4. Originally, the line work of the driver and the car would be overlapping. From past experience, that really doesn’t work with the laser cutter. So, I re-added the driver to the panel by copying him on top, and then converting him to no fill and 0.0001 point stroke. I decided I wanted to have him on the car celebrating, which is a common pose race car drivers do when celebrating. I finally cleaned up some line work of panel 4. Everything is now ready for my test print.

Mon, Sept 29 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-29

Today I prepared my artwork for a a test cut on the laser cutter. I started off by shifting the track of the first panel down in order to make it align with the track on panel 2, and I also added a checkered banner across all four panels. I did that with the shaper tool. Then, I began the process of my line work. I want to have just the race car and driver have line work so that they stand out from the buildings, which are only meant to be a background. So, I began the process of pasting the images in on top, converting it to 0.0001 stroke, and moving them to my line work layer. When I was doing this, I realized I could not have the driver and car overlap in panel 4, so I shifted him to be standing on top of the car celebrating. I will finish doing that for homework. Finally, I outlined my negative space using the pen tool. Other than the small adjustment I need to make to panel 4, it is ready for a test cut.

Mon, Sep 29 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-29

Tonight for homework I continued to work on my vector artwork for my panels. I began by increasing the contrast of the race car on panel 3, making sure none of the shades of gray blended in with the track or other parts of the car too much. Then, I used the pen tool in order to create the wall behind the car and the flag stand to the right of the car. I added an 11 in the front of my favorite driver to the front of the car in panel 3 as a nice little easter egg. I did this by inserting a reference photo and then tracing it with the curvature tool. After doing this I moved to start panel 4. I copied the car from panel 2 and flipped it around using the free transform tool. I did this to make it seem like the race is over and the driver just did celebration donuts. I also inserted a picture of a race car driver punching the air to make it seem as if he is happy that he just won the race. I increased the contrast of the driver to define the shades of gray. Finally, I inserted a checkered flag and converted it to grayscale.

Thur, Sept 25 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-25

Today in class I finished my second panel and began my third. I started off my generating a race car from a different perspective than the first panel. I then converted it to grayscale and increased the contrast. Using the shaper tool, I created another building for the background of the second panel. I also added a darker shade of gray and some lines to the racing surface to give the track more detail. After I wrapped up the second panel, I created another layer for the raster etch of the third panel. I used the shaper tool and pen tool to create simplistic buildings in the background, and generated a car from another different perspective in and began to increase its contrast. For homework I will complete all of the panels and be ready for a test print on Monday.

Thur, Sept 25 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-25

For homework tonight I wrapped up my first panel and began work on my second. I used the pen and curvature tools to add darker shades to the race track in order to add more detail and give the idea that there is rubber being laid down from the cars. I also added curbing to the first panel to make it look more like a real race track. As I wrapped up panel 1, I decided I wanted to break up my raster etching into each panel having its own layer. After creating a new layer for the raster etch artwork on panel 2, I tried to have the Adobe AI generator create me a visual of the Willis Tower for the background of panel 2. The visuals it gave me were quite bad and inaccurate, so I used the shape tool to make my own for of it. I will add further detail to the building tomorrow in class. I also added the race track to the bottom of panel 2. In class tomorrow I am hoping to complete panels 2 and 3.

Tue, Sept 23 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-23

In class today I began to bring my idea for the project into illustrator. After bringing the file sent by Mr. Brodie into illustrator, I first organized my layers. I added a layer for my negative space (through cut), raster etching, and vector line work. I started by using the pen and curvature tools in order to create the track in the first panel, adding different shades of gray for the asphalt and curbing. Then, I started work on my first generated image. I want to have a race car closer to something out of NASCAR, but the generator would only give me open wheel race cars. I ended by increasing the contrast of the image. I may try to swap the open wheel car out for a different kind of car later.

Tue, Sept 23 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-23

Tonight for homework I completed my final sketches for the luminary design project. I chose to stick with the race car theme, as I thought I could tell an interesting story whilst implementing different perspective shots to my project. I have decided that I want to add more details to the skyscrapers that I previously chose to use, for I think that having a fictional representation of an event I attended (Chicago Street Race) would be really cool. I added further details to the cars, track, and skyscrapers in the background, and chose that I wanted to place my negative space for the luminary to shine through in the backdrop next to the skyscrapers. I think this will create a cool foreground/background illusion.

Sat, Sept 20 CW – Image and description of completed homework. – CWDueDate 2025-9-20

Today in class I completed my sketches for the luminary design challenge. For my first idea, I brought to life a street course race, and tried to tell the story of a driver winning. I recreated the Chicago Street Course with some iconic buildings in the back, and I am hoping to use these backdrops to create negative space. I tried my best to use different “camera angles” for the panels. For my second idea, I combined the ideas of running and nature. At the start of the person’s run, he is focused on getting through the run and is zoning out from the nature around him. However, as he begins to tire he learns to appreciate the beauty around him. I also used different “camera angles” for these panels and I think the trees and hills could create good negative space.

Sat, Sept 20 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-20

Two themes I considered for my Luminary Design are running and car racing. I have always enjoyed running, and I currently run track or cross country three terms a year. I have developed a strong connection to running and have learned to really enjoy it, which is why I am considering the idea. If I used it for my project, I would do different types of running shoes in each panel, or different running tracks or famous running courses ran during Marathons. I would do the running shoes because I have become somewhat of a running shoe nerd. My other choice, being race cars, is due to my liking of auto racing ever since I was a little kid. Also, I hope to do be involved in some kind of racing as a career when I am older. I would include panels with different types of race cars or circuits from F1 and NASCAR.

Thur, Sept 18 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-18

Today I spent the class period using the laser cutter to get my final product of the project. My first two attempts were unsuccessful, as I had the incorrect settings selected for the speed and power of the laser. After discussing with Mr. Brodie about the proper settings for the laser cutter, I fixed everything and was able to do the raster etching and vector line work properly. After this, I used the laser cutter to cut out my negative space. Finally, I wrote my name on the cutout and turned it in.

Thur, Sept 18 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-18

For homework I just had to make some small tweaks to my image to prepare it for a final version on the laser cutter. I used the eraser tool to ensure that my line work did not cross over the raster etch that the printer does first, trimming the penguins wings and the soccer ball whilst maintaining the illusion that there is overlap. To finish up, I added some more detail to my line work section that I had previously put in the wrong layer.

Today in class I started by fixing a couple of my errors from yesterday. I fixed my line work that I put on the wrong layer and reorganized my layers in order to prepare for a laser cut. I renamed my layers so I had one for the rasper etching and vector line work etching, allowing me to do a test print. Next, I edited the thickness of the lines in my line work so the laser cutter could read it properly. After learning how to use the printer from Mr. Brodie’s example, I downloaded my file to the drive and then had to wait for a while to use the laser cutter. When it was my turn I put in my drive into the computer, adjusted the settings, began the cutting process. I had the laser do the rasper etching and line work, but I ran out of time to do the negative space. I also realized that I need to adjust the image to fit the proper frame, which should be a quick fix for homework.

For homework tonight I finalized my image for the laser cutter. I started off by adding some finer details to the line work of the penguin, soccer ball, and field inside the doors. Then, I outlined the negative space in the back of my image. I tried to make the penguin have more a a furry texture in the line work, and I gave the soccer ball a rougher texture.

Today I started off by swapping out the image I wanted to use for my laser cut image. I used another one of the penguin options that were made available to me. Then, I began to increase the contrast of my images. I first practiced on the robot off of the canvas, and eventually did the penguin. When I was done adjusting the contrast, I began my line work. I created a new layer and then copied a new version of the penguin into it to begin my line work. I had to make a handful of adjustments to the lines of the penguin, and I had to swap the soccer ball out as a whole. (I created a new image and repeated the process with it within my line work layer. As of now I am almost complete with my line work and will be ready to use the laser cutter by next class.

Today we started by refreshing ourselves on how to use the pen tool by tracing negative space on the original images. Then, we practiced using the text to image generator. I generated multiple images to place in the third panel, including a robot delivery driver, a penguin playing soccer, and a running track. I then decided I wanted to use the penguin in my image, so I converted it to grayscale and adjusted the shades of gray, black, and white in order to allow for more contrast.
