During class today, I finally printed out my last two panels of my Luminary Art Project. For the first round of printing, Engrave, I turn on the ai image and etching layers. For my second round, I turn on panel layout and vector throughcut layers. Above are the photos of my printed out panels. Then, I glued both of them to blue sheets and put them under weights to dry.

Thur, Nov 13 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-13

For homework, I worked on my AI art history project, specifically the comparative analysis. I did a rough draft analysis for 2/3 of the movements: surrealism and the renaissance, so I am almost done with part 3. However, I will go back and edit all of the analyses after I am done.

N/A because I wasn’t in class.

Tue, Nov 11 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-11

For homework, I edited this part of my illustrator design so there are no overlapping areas in order to make sure it doesn’t catch fire again. Also, I set up the first part of the comparative analysis by aligning the two photos and labelling them as either the historical artwork or AI generated image. Above is an example of one of them I did, but I did all three movements.

Thur, Nov 6 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-6

During class today, I used the laser cutter to cut my third panel. However, I ran into some difficulty while it was cutting my vector-through cut and it caught on fire so I had to restart. I adjusted the problem by moving the really thin lines to my vector etching layer, and started to print my fourth panel instead. That one also caught fire so I will fix them for homework and try again next time. Also, it was partially due to the bent piece of wood.

Thur, Nov 6 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-6

For homework, I refined my AI image prompts and played around with many different ideas to get a variety of images and choose which ones I found most fitting to the specific movement.

Tue, Nov 4 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-4

First during class, two of my panels were dry so I had to cut off the remainder of the paper so they were clean cut and finished. I was unable to print my last two again. Then, I began generating prompts for my AI images. Below are my prompts so far, but I may edit them and the photos they created.

Renaissance –  Create an image as a painting of a lady wearing an old ballgown, sitting on a velvet red bed, with many dull colors.

Surrealism – Create an image where a man is floating in space, large planets all around him and his head is the sun

Cubism – Create a cubism image of a dog that is fractured into many geometric shapes in multiple planes in blue, black, white, and green

Tue, Nov 4 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-4

For homework, I finished writing my third paragraph on Cubism and editing the other two on Surrealism and the Rennaissance. Then, I looked up and found multiple reference images from these movements for each one. Above are photos for each.

Fri, Oct 31 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-31

During class, as I was again unable to use the laser printer, I continued to work on my Ai Art History Challenge. I took the research and notes I found last class and for homework, and began writing it out into small paragraphs for each movement. I wrote out the first two so far, and will finish writing and editing for homework.

Fri, Oct 31 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-31

For homework, I finished the research on my three movements: specifically, fun facts, setting, significance, visual characteristics, and main ideas expressed.

Wed, Oct 29 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-29

First, I outlined the stroke and used pathfinder on all three layers: top, middle, and bottom so they are ready to be printed. I still need to finish printing my panels for the lantern. Next, I started on the AI Art History Challenge by picking three movements (Cubism, Renaissance, and Surrealism) and beginning to plan and research about them on a google document, shown in an image above.

During class, I realized that each layer had multiple colored components on it. So, I went through and fixed all of my layers, having to change some shapes so that the bottom layer was 90% grey, the middle layer was 50% grey, and the top layer was 25% grey, shown in the images above. Next, I glued blue background sheets to two of my panels, to represent the ocean and the sky, and have to let them sit under weights overnight in order to fully dry. The process is also shown above.

Thur, Oct 23 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-23

I’m not sure why it is tilted, but here is my final Mandala design, all put together and edited to fit well.

Tue, Oct 21 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-21

For classwork, I realized that not all of my components in each layer connected, so I worked on making everything look complete and connected in each layer, and then as a whole. My images above show each layer so that they are now connected, with bottom at the bottom, middle layer as the middle image, and the top layer as the top image. Additionally, I took away some lines along the edges because it looked messy, and added some small semi-circles along the outside of the square.

Tue, Oct 21 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-21

For homework, I worked on my mandala design by adding many different color and sized lines to the corners. Also, I made sure all of my layers connect, flow, and look good when individually turned off.

Fri, Oct 17 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-17

During class, I put my first two panels through the laser cutter. In the second one, I messed it up a bit and had to redo it. While they were printing, I worked some more on my mandala design as well. The panels turned out very well I think.

Fri, Oct 17 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-17

For homework, I added some lines and shapes to my design.

Wed, Oct 15 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-15

For classwork, I worked more on my real mandala project, adding lines and symmetric designs to add greater detail. I worked with all three layers and making different aspects different shades of grey, like the borders for example. I was unable to print my panels this class.

Wed, Oct 15 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-10-15

The photo attached shows the start of the second Mandala Project, where I did the guides, the swatch layer, and began on the shapes. I had a little trouble with copying the shape and rotating it, so I stopped here.

Mon, Oct 13 CW – Image and description of completed homework- CWDueDate 2025-10-13

Above is the finished part 1 of my Mandala, but I had to take out some of the floating dots because they wouldn’t have worked in the laser cutter. I added some detail in the center area as well.

Mon, Oct 13 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-10-13

For homework, I added lots of small details and components to my new design: lines, dots, circles, and more. I made sure everything is symmetrical and worked on my creativity for this.

Thur, Oct 9 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-9

Today in class, as I didn’t get to the laser cutter again, I began working on the new project, Creating Ornate Mandalas. I followed along with the instructions to start making basic shapes, and used the pen tool, scissor tool, ellipse tool the most. I created 3 layers to work on: guide, and two others. My design has a few differences than the example one, displaying my own creativity.

Thur, Oct 9 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-9

Although all of my panels are done, I found small details to delete or make the same color as the background so the laser printer can do a better job. Also, since two panels are due tomorrow, above are my favorite two panels I have done so far, with a story behind each image, and large contrast among the different elements within the images.

Tue, Oct 7 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-7

For class, I was not able to do a test print because the line was very long and the printing process is time consuming, so it didn’t make it to me.

Tue, Oct 7 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-7

I have finished all of my illustrator work, so there wasn’t much to do for homework. I double checked all of my panels to make sure they are clean and detailed.

Sat, Oct 4 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-4

Since today we had a shorter class, I wasn’t able to do another test print. However, I worked more on simplifying the images and increasing the contrast, specifically on the palm tree and umbrella.

Sat, Oct 4 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-4

There was not a ton to work on for homework, because most of the illustrator work is completed since I finished it last class and got to test print. However, I touched up a few things and made the contrast on some specific areas a little darker.

Wed, Oct 1 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-1

During class today, I changed a few details to be negative space, like some lines in the ocean reflecting the sun. Then, made sure everything was ready to print like changing the stroke size. After, I was able to test-print a piece of my work and it turned out very good, the only thing I changed was the contrast in certain areas, like making the bathing suit and fins darker. I wrote down the settings so I can remember them for next time, and above is a photo of my test print.

Wed, Oct 1 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-1

For homework, I worked on outlining the coral in the left panel, and completing all of my other outlining for that panel, so now they are all done. Also, I reduced some of the complicated line work.

Mon, Sept 29 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-29

For class today, I worked on outlining the last panel, but didn’t fully finish yet as I was distinguishing the negative/positive spaces. Also, I worked on simplifying some of the line work in my other panels, like in the ocean and beach chair to make more clear and simple shapes for the laser printer.

Mon, Sep 29 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-29

For homework tonight, I finished 3/4 panels by outlining the volleyball net and the whole beach scene (second panel from the right).

Thur, Sept 25 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-25

In class today, I finished the images and base layers for all of the panels, which I had to fix because I had a lot of floating objects. Then, I began on my vector through cut lines and finalizing what parts are negative versus positive space. For some of the images I chose, there weren’t direct lines to trace around, but instead some gaps, so I just went over them to make solid lines and shapes.

Thur, Sept 25 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-25

For homework, I continued to add and create images in my frames for the different scenes using the line tool and ai generated images. I am almost done with my panels, but I still have a few things to include. Also, I have been planning out what parts are going to be cut/not cut through when being laser cutted.

Tue, Sept 23 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-23

During class, I began to work on creating my four panels in adobe illustrator. I found some ai images to include, as well as creating some parts on my own through illustrator tools. Also, I learned how to cut/crop part of my image that is off the panel and I don’t want to include, which was pretty tedious.

Tue, Sept 23 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-23

For homework tonight, I worked on completing my final four sketches and combining ideas in order to have only 4 panels, not 6. I kept in mind a balance between similar aspects (like the sun, birds, and clouds), while changing the activity the character is doing. I still have to figure out exactly what parts with be totally cut through for the light, but I have a pretty good sense so far. I ensured that all of drawings and ideas connect to my theme, the beach.

Sat, Sept 20 CW – Image and description of completed homework. – CWDueDate 2025-9-20

During our short block today, I worked on 6/8 of my thumbnail sketches for my project. My sketches include scenarios at the beach, like swimming, playing volleyball, and just scenery. I am leaving 2 blank in case I think of more ideas.

Sat, Sept 20 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-20

Theme Paragraph: The theme for my project is the beach. It’s one of my favorite places to be, especially in the summer, where I can relax with my friends, swim and cool off in the ocean, or play volleyball on the sand. I go for entire days, or just for a little to catch the stunning sunsets where the sun falls into the ocean. The beach also reminds me of my hometown when I am far away from home because I have grown up at the beach for my entire life. Additionally, this theme will be displayed across 4 panels, with each panel showing different activities at the beach: swimming, surfing, volleyball, tanning, relaxing, and more.

Additionally, attached are some inspiration/reference images to begin sparking ideas for my design.

Thur, Sept 18 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-18

During today’s class, as I finished my bird light frame, I began the new Luminary Design Project. For starters, I brainstormed several themes related to my interests and hobbies. After narrowing it down to two main themes, I wrote small paragraphs for both Traveling and The Beach, but ultimately decided on the beach as the theme for my project. I didn’t fully finish the concept paragraph, but I will for homework.

Thur, Sept 18 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-18

I began laser printing last class, so I finished my online artwork and did not have any work to do on it.

Mon, Sept 15 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-15

During class today, I finished simplifying the inside of the bird, making it detailed yet not cluttered with lines. I then began the start to laser cut for the first time by figuring out the steps and small details in order for the frame to turn out the way I want it. Overall, my first test run went well and I am happy with how it looks.

Mon, Sept 15 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-15

For homework, I worked on simplifying my image and cutting down the amount of detail and line work. I made certain shapes have no lines or shapes inside, while others still have some.

Thur, Sept 11 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-11

Today in class, I finished outlining all the negative space around my object, the bird. Also, I made the inside colors more contrasting from grays to white or black, so it will appear better. Lastly, I began to cut down the line details in order for the laser printer to cut most efficiently, however, my image has very detailed line work so it took a while.

Thur, Sept 11 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-9-11

Tue, Sept 9 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-9

Using the pen tool, I outlined the sections of negative space in the second panel, and then used the text-image generator to search and find a main object: a bird with sunglasses.
