Wed, Nov 6 CW – image of work completed in class
In class today I printed out 2 more layers. The back mountains printed out well and I had no issues with them. The turtle layer though, I did have issues with. The turtle was too small and the staff almost got completely burned away. It looked as if I was lacking depth. I changed my layer so the turtle is larger now so hopefully next class I can print again and it will work.

Wed, Nov 6 HW – image of completed homework
I continued refining my layers so I can print them next time. I deleted the lines so there was no overlap so I could print properly.

Mon, Nov 4 CW – image of work completed in class
I was able to refine my print from last class. I put paste on it and glued it to the wood. Then I cut the excess paper off. I also set up my other layers for printing next class.

Week 8
Thur, Oct 31 CW – image of work completed in class
I had a failed test print of my back moon and stars where the moon wasn’t able to cut out and another design was cut on it as well. I tried again and cut out another piece of paper and it worked correctly with the moon and stars being done well. I will paste it next class.

I followed the instructions and was able to build the first side of the shadow box. I put the LEDs in and it worked perfectly.

Thur, Oct 24 HW – image of completed homework
All I did was separate the final layer as my next step needs to be a test print.

Tue, Oct 22 CW – image of work completed in class
I finished correcting the design and started separating the layers.

Tue, Oct 22 HW – image of completed homework
My program crashed the night before so I had to do a bit of catch up of the work that was missing. I combined the base floor with the turtle again and continued messing with the trees. I fixed the mountains once again. Next class I will separate the features.

Week 6
Fri, Oct 18 CW – image of work completed in class
I divided each panel individually and kept messing with little details. I combined the base floor and turtle and changed the mountains a bit. I will hopefully test print next class.

Fri, Oct 18 HW – image of completed homework
I moved my work into the panels and had to move everything around as the dimensions were different. I had to edit everything and add more flowers and leaves. Next time I need to further edit my trees and fix everything around.

Wed, Oct 16 CW – image of work completed in class
I continued messing with the shape of my trees during class, making the silhouettes cleaner and closer to something I would be happy with. I added more flowers all over the branches of the trees, trying to vary their sizes in order to make it more interesting. I also added buds/leaves to the trees. I leveled out the ground and am feeling fairly happy with it. After one more night of work I think I will be ready to divide it into the sections and test print next class.

Wed, Oct 16 HW – image of completed homework
After working for a while, I redid my trees. I used a new reference and tried to make the branches as thin as possible to give the desired effect. I alos made them go over the moon which I think will look cool in the lightbox. I also added more buds and flowers to them.

Mon, Oct 14 CW – image of work completed in class
In class we started our frames for our mandalas and learned how to use tools in the woodshop. Next class we should hopefully finish the frames.
Mon, Oct 14 HW – image of completed homework
For homework I continued messing with my light box art. I tried a couple different methods for the trees, trying to redesign them and make them thinner, but nothing was working. I added flowers to one to give the cherry blossom effect but I am still not satisfied with them and may need to start all over for them. I added more stars in the back and changed the size of the turtle in front.

Week 5
Thur, Oct 10 CW – image of work completed in class
I am making good progress on my light box design. I completed the turtle, moon, stars, but the trees and ground still need work. I am using different values of black and white to get an idea of how it is supposed to look in the box. I think I will use papers of different thicknesses or layer them in order to get the desired effect.

Thur, Oct 10 HW – image of completed homework
Completed survey.
Tue, Oct 8 CW – image of work completed in class
Using my completed sketch from last night’s homework, I started to trace, adjust, and plan out my shadow box insert. I used different shades of gray to see how I wanted my art to be layered and pulled up some references for the back of the turtle.

Tue, Oct 8 HW – image of completed homework
I did many sketches until I settled on the Kung Fu Panda one. I took another piece of paper to enlarge and refine it until I was happy with the result.

Week 4
Fri, Oct 4 CW – image of work completed in class

I finally completed my mandala by gluing all the pieces together. I then used a rag to remove all the extra glue and used clips to hold the pieces together. I also did my concept sketches.

Wed, Oct 2 CW – image of work completed in class
During class I was able to use the pieces I made for homework to create the full box. I printed all pieces and sanded each of them. While putting them together, I realized a mistake I made in the middle piece and had to correct, reprint, and re sand those two pieces. After that I was finally able to glue them together and let it sit with rubber bands on it so it would stay together while drying.

Wed, Sept Oct 2 HW – image of completed homework
I redid my pieces of the pencil box in the same dimensions as the wood, making sure the holes, slits, and pieces on the side are all the same correct length to make sure it will work with the wood.

Mon, Sept 30 CW – image of work completed in class
I followed the tutorial in class to create my base for the pencil box. I gained a lot of experience that I will be using to create my shadow box next class or in my upcoming classes.

Week 3
Fri, Sept 27 CW – image of work completed in class
I cut out my final two pieces and stained all of them. I restained the bottom layer again and I might want to put on a couple more layers next class. Besides that and gluing, I should be finished.

During class I took my printed wood piece from last class and sanded it down. I made sure there was no burn residue left on the wood. I then used a dark grey stain I picked out last class and stained my wood. I left it to dry.

Mon, Sept 23 CW – image of work completed in class
I finished my mandala design on illustrator, moved it onto a hard drive, and printed out the bottom layer. In between I also tested colors in the other room, and I think I am going to go for a cool color palette.

Mon, Sept 23 HW – image of completed homework
I worked for 45 minutes on my mandela adding as much detail as I could and connecting all the pieces together.

Week 2
Thur, Sept 19 CW – image of work completed in class
Using what I learned from the video tutorial last night, I made significant process in creating my own. I tried to use shapes and thicker lines as much as possible.

Thur, Sept 19 HW – image of completed homework
I followed the video tutorial given with my own spin on it and really enjoyed the process.

Tue, Sept 17 CW – image of work completed in class
We made a practice shape in Illustrator and cut it out to get a good idea of line weights and how thin we can cut them. I was also able to do a large part of the homework in class by following the tutorial.

Tue,, Sept 17 HW – image of completed homework
I followed the tutorial but put a bit of my own personal spin on it.

Week 1
Sat, Sept 14 CW – image of work completed in class
I finally cut out the name. The printer slightly cut off the bottom but besides that it worked completely.

Sat, Sept 14 HW – image of completed homework

Thur, Sept 12 CW – image of work completed in class
I finished my final name design and connected the letters together so I can eventually print it out.

Thur, Sept 12 HW – image of completed homework
Worked on making “S” look more even, added more warp to “chmidt” at the bottom, played around with shapes of letters for a cleaner look

Tues, Sept 10 HW – image of work completed in class
