Set this up for my wood dimensions during sunday consult.

Week 9

Fri, May 16  CW- image of work completed in class

Finished my cardboard model.

Fri, May 16  HW – image of completed homework

For homework, I got my dividers ready to print in cardboard as the initial ones I printed were wrongly sized as well as another small drawer side piece that I was missing.

Wed, May 14  CW- image of work completed in class

Continued working on the cardboard model.

Wed, May 14  HW – image of completed homework

I am currently assembling my cardboard model and am already done with my fusion model and my illustrator designs so I don’t have any homework for tonight.

Mon, May 12  CW- image of work completed in class

I managed to print out my cardboard pieces and start putting them together. Also, sorry Mr. Brodie, for not updating my blog page until two days after class, it just slipped my mind on Monday.

Mon, May 12  HW – image of completed homework

I had to redo many of my sketches as when I printed them out in class they didn’t come out right. Hopefully I managed to do them right this time so that they will print correctly.

Week 8

Thu, May 8  CW- image of work completed in class

I printed out some parts but they don’t look right. Going to edit the sketches in fusion as homework.

Thu, May 8  HW – image of completed homework

Since I have already completed the 3D model along with the designs, I continued preparing to print out my parts by placing them on 18×24 inch boards in adobe illustrator. Hopefully I can print out my parts in cardboard tomorrow!

Tue, May 6  CW- image of work completed in class

I started to make some artboards to print out my parts but unfortunately couldn’t use the printer today. I also made some components that were earlier missing in my 3D model.

Tue, May 6  HW – image of completed homework

Worked on a design for the front drawer piece. The image that was generated completely covered up my clients name so I had to make the entirety of the right side and this was quite a long process as I had to modify the shape of the left piece and move the trees around to create a unique look. In order to make it so that the design on the left did not cover up the word engravings, I had to make it from two seperate pieces to fit that specific size.

Week 7

Fri, May 2  CW- image of work completed in class

I did more work on the design and also updated some components

Fri, May 2  HW – image of completed homework

redid the design of my side plates to fit the new joints i added. Used AI to make the initial image and edited it from there (Added some mountains, erased parts of the image covering up joinery, etc.)

Wed, Apr 30  CW- image of work completed in class

redid some of the back parts to work properly when printed

Wed, Apr 30  HW – image of completed homework

I redid my small drawer as I had to fix the thickness around it so that it measured 0.21, and it led to me having to redo the entire drawer. I also began to project sketches of different parts of the desktop organizer.

Mon, Apr 28  CW- image of work completed in class

Put the extra joints in for the sides

Mon, Apr 28  HW – image of completed homework

Remade my drawer with updated thickness of certain pieces. I had to redo the whole thing as the dimensions were completely off for my original drawer.

Week 6

Thu, Apr 24  CW- image of work completed in class

I fixed the thickness of my pieces and added joinery

Thu, Apr 24  HW – image of completed homework

Made some components within my small drawer and also made an engraving of my client’s name in the front piece of the big drawer in order to personalize it. Also decided on the font together with the client before hand- he wanted something that looked elegant but wasn’t overly loud.

Tue, Apr 22  CW- image of work completed in class

Designed the other side piece.

Tue, Apr 22  HW – image of completed homework

Started working on the design of the other side piece of the desktop organizer.

Week 5

Thu,, Apr 17  CW- image of work completed in class

I designed one of my side pieces for the desktop organizer, suiting it to my clients preferences of a nature based design.

Thu, Apr 17  HW – image of completed homework

Worked on my second drawer, which will be used by my client to store pencils and pens and other stationary along with his airpods.

Tue, Apr 15  CW- image of work completed in class

Used adobe illustrator.

Tue, Apr 15  HW – image of completed homework

I continued working on the desktop organizer, adding in joinery for the middle partitioners as well as the sides of the organizer. I also made some modifications to my drawer.

Week 4

Fri, Apr 11  CW- image of work completed in class

I made my drawer for the desktop organizer.

Fri, Apr 11  HW – image of completed homework

Fixed the issue with the back curves that Mr. Brodie and I discussed in class by finding a way to make it so the curve slowly becomes wider as it gets further away from the right and left sides of the organizer, and also remade the back rectangular plates so that they would cut into the back curves to create joints so that when it is printed out it can be put together easily.

Wed, Apr 9  CW- image of work completed in class

Did some troubleshooting on the organizer- changed the back design so it would be easy to print and also modified the book holders.

Wed, Apr 9  HW – image of completed homework

I started working on the computer model of the desktop organizer i am making for my client.

Mon, Apr 7  CW- image of work completed in class

Worked on developing my sketches for the project

Problem Statement:

My client needs a desktop organizer that has a place for him to store loose papers and books.

Currently, he doesn’t have any place to store these loose papers and books so they all end up scattered around his desk and he easily loses his papers and finds it difficult to find them. Additionally, he is also looking for somewhere to keep his airpods as he always misplaces them. He wants a design which is sleek and fits in on his desk seamlessly, and it should be roughly 1 foot by 1 foot. The fact that it has to be sleek while providing enough space for books and papers presents a challenge, but I do think it can be done. The design that my client wants is something that is not overly loud and overwhelming, and should be nature-related. In order to further personalize the organizer, I think I will find a place to engrave my client’s name.

Mon, Apr 7  HW – image of completed homework

Today for homework I continued designing my phone, adding my card holder, the speakers and charging port, as well as my phone camera.

I also interviewed my friend regarding the desktop organizer, and these were his answers to my questions:

What do you think makes up most of the mess on your desk?

Loose papers and books.

Are there certain features you must have in a desktop organiser? (Stationary holders, phone holder, etc)

Something to store the loose papers and a stationary box.

What kind of design would you prefer? eg: something more sleek and elegant or something which is bulkier, etc

Something that is sleek and blends in seamlessly

How much space do you think is needed for the organiser?

Around 1 by 1 foot.

What interests do you have?

Nature should be incorporated into the design, and the design shouldn’t too overwhelming.

Do you have any specific problems that need solving? Eg. wires are all over the place, nowhere to store books, etc

No.

Do you have any valuables that you don’t have anywhere safe to store?

Yes I have earbuds which I am always misplacing.

Week 3

Thu, Apr 3  CW- image of work completed in class

added some buttons onto my phone on top of developing my

Desktop organizer questions:

I believe that the questions I am going to ask will allow me to empathize with my interviewee, as many of these questions will allow me to understand their issues regarding organization. I think that asking these questions will also let me have a rough idea on what the design will look like, as it will let me know what specific needs that the interviewee has so that the organiser can be designed to fit their specific needs. This will help me with the define and ideate process, as I’ll be able to understand what the problem is and will also be able to put my knowledge about the interviewee’s issues to use and start coming up with solutions.

Thu, Apr 3  HW – image of completed homework

Although I said I completed the phone stand, I realized a valuable addition could be a base that allows it to rotate, so i worked on one as homework.

Tue, Apr 1  CW- image of work completed in class

I managed to make the hinges work in class today and completed the phone stand!

Tue, Apr 1  HW – image of completed homework

Continued working on my phone stand. I made another hinge and completed the first one, and am going to try and make it so that the parts will move in fusion.

Week 2

Sat, Mar 29  CW – image of work completed in class

I made a hinge for my parts

Sat, Mar 29 HW – image of completed homework

Continued to work on modelling my phone stand. Continued attempting to make the hinges, and I also did some work testing if the phone stand would work if it were to be used in real life, by testing if it could fit in the gaps.

Thur, Mar 27 CW – image of work completed in class

I made a simple phone model and started to work on the hinges

Thur, Mar 27HW – image of completed homework

Continued making the model of my phone holder in fusion

Tue, Mar 25  CW- image of work completed in class

I started designing my sketch after completing my paper design

Tue, Mar 25  HW – image of completed homework

Finished my sketches and designs and chose my final design

Week 1

Sat, Mar 22  CW- image of work completed in class

I need to be able to change the viewing angle while my phone is in my phonestand, it has to be specifically designed for my phone, it needs to allow me to charge my phone, it should allow me to use my speakers without blocking the audio, and it should be sturdy enough so that it does not collapse from the weight of the phone.

Thu, Mar 20  CW- image of work completed in class

Fusion was not working during class so I completed my sketch of my phone and I read the homework reading and did the quiz.
