For homework today, I was able to import a design of a panda for my lamp. I was also able to do the jointery required for the bulb. I also fully finished my luminary!

Today, I worked on the inside of my lamp design, and remodeled my base since I realized I wanted to change the dimensions. I was able to make the threaded cylinder for my bulb. I also finalized gluing together my luminary.

My actionable problem statement for my lamp is that I want my lamp to fit with the overall theme of my room, where I have many reminders of the trips that I have gone on throughout my travels. In this case, I am designing a children’s lamp that reminds me of all the children I saw at the panda zoo in China.

During class, I wasn’t able to get much done because parents were visiting. I was able to use an exacto knife to cut some of the imperfections on my recently painted panel, and I was able to test out the generate vectors tool to show my parents.

For homework, I created my lamp problem statement.
For my lamp, I will take inspiration from the pandas of Chengdu, China. I took a visit to Chengdu this summer and the pandas were one of my favorite things I had seen. I will make the panda lay on top of a ball that is attached to a lamp base. I will aim to keep the basic design of a lamp so that I can model it with cardboard, and then 3d print the panda so that I’m able to have the correct dimensions. I will take inspiration from the image below.

today during class, I was able to cut out all the remaining stuck on parts on my cut out panels. I got to sand them down and started the process for painting my test prints.

for classwork today, I finished my second and third panels. I finished all the additional linework on my second panel and I grinded through all the work for the third panel. The Fourth panel shouldn’t take too long to complete.

During class today, I was able to print out a full panel. however, it ended up being slightly off centered, so i will have to print it out again next class.

I was not able to do any homework ,since I did not save my Adobe Illustrator properly last class, so much of my progress has gotten deleted off my machine. Thankfully, however, I did print a copy of my design last class, meaning there is a copy of my panels saved on the desktop that I will be able to recover.
I came in during consult and I was able to do the etching for my first panel.
Week 4

During class today, I finished my first test print. It came out really well. Next class I will finish the linework + through cuts. I think it turned out really well.

For HW tonight, I looked more into the image trace feature and learned how to get it to work. It wasn’t working at first and I couldn’t figure out why, and I learned that I had to ungroup each of the objects multiple times before I could get just the vector outline of the artwork. For class tomorrow, I will start working on the AI generated images of the tennis players on the court.

For homework today, I worked on my first generative design. The AI wasn’t cooperating, but I was able to get the design I wanted in the end. I also started on my second logo design.

For HW today, I started generating the tennis courts that will be in the background. I started changing their colors so I know what the final product will look like when it is finished. I generated one court, and then used that same court and just changed the colors for the other designs. I plan on finishing this and adding the branding during tomorrow’s class.

During class today, I spent all my time working on a more detailed sketch that properly outlines how my project is going to look like. All of the shaded in area is going to be negative space.

For homework tonight, I brainstormed a new idea, since I figured out that AI can’t generate images of spider-man. I decided on doing 4 panels that revolve around the four tennis grand slams. I decided this because my Dad would always watch tennis on the TV at home when I was younger, and that is what inspired me to play. My dream as a kid was to play on court at one of those tournaments, and that dream inspired me to train profusely. The 4 grand slams fit perfectly with the four panels on the luminary, which makes this perfect for this project. My plan is to use paint to portray the different signature colors of each of the tournaments, include their emblem at the middle of each panel, and include the most iconic player from each tournament engraved into each panel.

During class today, i used AI to generate a hat for my robot and reprinted, unforunately, I forgot to add new through cuts and accidentally cut through the guys hat, so I spent some time desginign a new hat to glue on my design.
