Final Project

2/25/19:

I again still don’t have the screws. Hopefully, they come before the final. When they arrive it will be fully done.

2/22/19:

The only dilemma I have is that my screws have not arrived yet. I need to know the diameter of the screw before I can drill the holes in my creation.

2/19/19:

Today I printed my final design out of plywood,  I sanded it and added pink paper behind the top half. It looks very good, I’m pleased with my design. Now all I need to do is add my hooks.

2/18/19:

I am still creating my model in Rhino. I have added more designs on the top half to make it more visually pleasing. I also added dots where my hooks will insert. I think this is my final design. I am going to cut it out of plywood today.

Prototype 2/12/19:

Today I continued to prototype my design. I decided that my design was too simple so I wanted to add a piece on the top. I originally wanted to put a mirror in the back but since I have such an arch shape it would be very hard to get a mirror like that so I decided to keep the upper part but add some patterned paper to spice it up

Prototype 2/11/19:

Today I am going to begin creating my design in Rhino. I decided to tweak my design and only have 3 rows of hangers instead of 4 which is depicted below. I also decided to add a part where you can hang it from at the top. Now I just need how to finger out to  add the little hooks to hang the necklaces from.

Ideate 2/8/19:

I decided to totally change my design. I realized it would honestly be a disservice to me if I made myself a lamp. I don’t have room in my room for it and I just don’t feel the need to have one. I was looking at my jewelry this morning and all my necklaces were tangled together because they are sitting a tray. Something that I really need is a necklace holder/ hanger. I don’t want a boring necklace hanger I want a unique one. This is why I decided to design mine like this.

Ideate 1/24/19:

For my final project, I wanted to do something that I enjoy. I chose to make a lampshade with cut out waves at the bottom because I love my California coast and wanted to take a piece of it to my room. It will help fix my problem of missing the coast by symbolically bringing it here.

Frank Loyd Project

1/24/19:

Today I sanded my wood panels glued the paper on and glued it all together. I really enjoyed doing these steps and finally being able to see my work come to life. I didn’t think I would like my design but once I put it all together I was pleasantly surprised.

1/22/19:

We cut out our designs from wood it was nice to see it all come together.

1/18/19:

Today in class we started laser cutting our designs out of paper. Although my design was not cut today I got to watch other peoples. We had difficulty at first because our designs were too big so we had to size it down before cutting it.

Progress with prototype 1/15/19

I have just finished creating my design. It was really fun to do. It was very challenging but I definitely got the hang of it. It was fun to create each new design for the panels and discover new tools to help along the way.

Prototype 1/13/19:

When I began creating my design I had a lot of struggles. Using the new software was very difficult for me. I have never done anything like that before so it was a new experience for me. Although it is fun, it is still very challenging for me but I am slowing starting to understand it. Replicating my sketch on the software didn’t go exactly as planned. My design changed a lot, but I like my new design better. As I went from panel to panel each design became easier to create.

12/10/18:

I showed my client the prototype, and she thought that it was a well executed, practical design.

4. Prototype 12/4/18:

I started creating my design out of cardboard and realized that my design is a little top heavy so I had to add extra legs to the base and spread them out to have a better center of gravity to help it stand.

Since my client liked my design I will now start to create my prototype. I will begin by doing one more final sketch of the selfie stand.

 3. Ideate 12/3/18:

I met with my client, and the sketch on the top of the image below is the design she liked. There is nothing she wanted to be changed.

My most successful design was the one that my client liked. It has angle and lighting features, and buttons to change the light color and strength. It also has a cord that plugs into the phone to allow it to take the picture.

    2. Define 11/30/18: I researched some pictures of other stands that people created that could be helpful to my design. What I want out of my design is a functional and sleek looking phone stand that takes selfies. I want to make sure to include good lighting and good angles because those were some major desires of my client to be included in the design. It will have lights incorporated into the stand and movable features to make it stay in the right place to get your perfect angle. There will be a little cord that plugs into the phone that takes the picture for you. It will allow you to easily take the perfect selfie. The problem I have is taking the actual picture. I will need to design some type of plug coming from that stand that connects to the phone which enables you to take the picture. We have time constraints that won’t allow me to be able to do it to my best ability. Also, I need lights to be incorporated into my design which will be very difficult to do. Along with those constraints I also need certain materials that will be flexible to stay in certain positions, to get the right angles.

  1. Empathize 11/30/18: I started my process by asking my client what they wanted out of the design. I noted down the key design points. The things my client wanted to get out of this design was good lighting and angles. A simple way to take the perfect picture without all the extra supplies.
