Here is the section analysis of my lamp as requested. I tried to get as close to the middle as possible so the rod and nut are also cut in half. I also included final pictures of the luminary. I have really enjoyed Tech Design class this fall! Thank you for a great term Mr. Brodie.

Mon, Nov 17  HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-18

Today for homework, I completed my lamp design and rendering. I figured out how to map an illustrator design onto Fusion. I had to watch a lot of videos and compile the ideas in ChatGPT, but after making all the lines vector and closed, I was able to import it as a decal onto the cylindrical face and edit it how I wanted. I then changed the material so the colors pop more. After this, I made a rendering in Nanobanana and then refined it using ChatGPT. I am very proud of the way this design turned out, especially the details with the flowers, the rod for the bulb, and the nut holding it in place.

Fri, Nov 14 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-14

Today in class, I designed my lamp. I imported the lightblub, created the rod, and an avenue for the wire to escape through. I also designed the nut that connects the rod to the base. Mr. Brodie helped me with this as it was a bit hard to picture. Also, since I want a design on my shade, I made that in illustrator. I combined many different types of flowers. I don’t think it is possible to map this onto Fusion, but I do not think it is possible. For homework, I just need to make finishing touches and render.

Fri, Nov 14 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-14

Today for homework, I spent time figuring out how to put a design on a cylindrical face. I watched many videos, but none gave me the answer I was looking for. Therefore, I went to consult, and Mr. Brodie advised me to just make a design and don’t really worry about applying it.

Wed, Nov 12 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-12

Today in class, I first cut off the excess luminary paper and glued on the arm to complete my panels. Then, I worked on my lamp. I continued my design in a different file as my original one had gotten too messy. I put a wood base and a glass lamp so the flower design can show. I still need to add the design details. Last, I assembled my luminary. I just need to glue on the base and the project will be done.

Wed, Nov 12 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-12

Today for homework, I came in after classes and first added the green paper to one of my panels. Then, I printed an arm which was missing from one of my panels (what I wanted to reprint). It took a couple prints to get the right part, but then, I put the blue paper. In class, I will put the arm on and finish all the panels.

Fri, Nov 7 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-7

Today in class, I worked more on my luminary. First, I peeled off the blue paper from one of my panels as green needs to go on there to signify the four nations. This was sort of a tedious process as I was being extra careful to not tear off any of my small pieces. Then, I added the red paper to my fire panel. Last, I tried reprinting one of my panels, but it didn’t go very well.

Fri, Nov 7 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-7

Today for homework, I did a couple things. First, on Wednesday, I stayed 40 minutes after class tracing my panel with the knife as the printer did not cut completely through. This took a long time as all of the through cuts were incomplete, even the small and precise ones in the train tracks. Then, I continued working on my lamp in Fusion, but I need some help from Mr. Brodie, so I could not do much.

Wed, Nov 5 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-5

Today during class, I printed out the last two panels of my luminary. Since the deadline got moved, maybe I will reprint something, but everything seems good so far. I need to add the paper for both of these panels and then assemble.

Wed, Nov 5 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-5

Today for homework, I came in for consult and added the luminary paper to another one of my panels. I think the white will go really well with the air panel. I need to print one or two more and continue adding the paper.

Mon, Nov 3 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-3

Today in class, to start, I put the thin luminary paper for one of my panels. Then, while waiting for the printer, I worked on my lamp design sketch as I thought it needed some more details. To end class (and a bit after), I printed another panel which I thought turned out really well. I will put the paper for this and print one or possibly two more panels and assemble.

Mon, Nov 3  HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-3

For homework, I came in for Sunday Consult. I worked on my luminary design, editing my illustrator and reprinting one panel because it printed incorrectly. In illustrator, with help from Mr. Brodie, I created more contrast to make my etchings pop, mostly in the 2nd and 4th panel. I need to print a bit more and assemble. It is difficult because everyone is trying to print right now, but I will figure it out.

Thur, Oct 30 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-30

Today in class, I printed two panels. The first one came out a bit darker than I would like, so maybe I will sand or paint that. The second one came out great, but I might need to do a bit of sanding there as well.

Thur, Oct 30 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-30

Today for homework, I started designing my lamp in Fusion. I created the base and the two vertical beams that will hold up the cylindrical lamp. It took more time than I expected because I had to remember how to use the rectangular pattern tool and others. This week, I hope to finish printing my luminary and then probably come in on Sunday to finish it.

Fri, Oct 24 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-24

Today in class, the printer was taken up and since it was a short period I didn’t get to use it. Instead, I made good use of my time and created a full-scale sketch of my lamp.

Fri, Oct 24 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-24

Today for homework, since there was no consult (weird schedule), I could not go print. I might try to come in on Sunday and get some stuff done however. Also, since the sketch has to be on brown paper, I could not completely finish that. However, I basically finished it so I can just copy it onto the brown paper. I created a sketch of each joinery and every part for design. I also added specific dimensions.

Wed, Oct 22 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-22

Today in class, I made a more detailed sketch of my lamp. I put dimensions on the different sides, and I will test these in Fusion next week hopefully. I also started printing my 1st panel today, although I ran out of time after the etching. I will do the linework and through cuts and finish the first panel.

Wed, Oct 22 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-22

Today for homework, I made two new lamp designs. One more conventional, and one that looks like a tree – something new. Right now, I am deciding between designs 1 and 6. I will talk to Mr. Brodie in class about which one is more feasible, and then go for there. However, the idea generation phase is complete.

Mon, Oct 20  CW – image and description of completed homework- CWDueDate 2025-10-20

Today in class, first I designed the base of the luminary design. I then 3D printed this and will pick it up next time. The 3D printing was cool, as I have never used it before, and now I know how to utilize it if it will help my lamp design. Last, I created sketches for my lamp design. Right now, I am leaning toward idea number 1, simply because I think that my mom will admire it the most. I will create one more sketch and then make a final more in-depth one.

Mon, Oct 20  HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-20

Today for homework, I did more research on lamps, edited my problem statement, looked at existing solutions, created my design constraints, and decided that an ambient lamp would better suit my mom. This is because I talked to her again and she said that a reading-specific lamp isn’t really what she wants, but more an ambient lamp she can use at night to dim the room and read.

Thur, Oct 16 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-16

Today in class, I was trying to print, but the printers were taken up. Since I will probably not be able to come in this Sunday, as I am off-campus, I will try to print next week. Instead, I designed my lightbulb and socket and also started designing my 3D printed base for the luminary.

Thur, Oct 16 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-16

Today for homework, I created the lightbulb and socket in Fusion. I had some issues with the dimension tool after not using Fusion for a while, but I think I have gotten back into the groove. after this homework.

Tues, Oct 14 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-14

Today in class, I tried printing a panel, but there was a flaw in my through cuts. The cuts were on the wrong parts, so I had to go back in illustrator and fix all of these issues. Some lines also were not connected, so I extended those. Now my illustrator design should be fixed and I will be able to print.

Tues, Oct 14 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-10-14

Today for homework, I interviewed my mom about her pain points and what she needs. I then wrote the problem statement and design challenge. In class, I will work on designing the lamp socket and bulb.

Fri, Oct 10 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-10

Today in class, I finished the Luminary Design. I edited some negative space tracings to make them more detailed. I also made the air symbol etchings into through-cuts. This will let the light shine through and I think it will look really cool. For homework, I will start the next project.

Fri, Oct 10 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-10

Today for homework, I finished the Adobe part of the first project. I finished the negative space tracings for the train tracks. These actually took a long time because I had to do each one manually. I also had to be careful to not cut out any of the linework as that is what makes the small train tracks detailed. Next, I will print these panels or start the design thinking process for the second project.

Wed, Oct 8 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-8

Today in class, I nearly finished outlining and editing linework. I then thought of the idea to add negative space under the train tracks which takes a long time because I have to do it manually. I will finish that for homework and then I will be ready to print. I am also excited to begin the final lamp project.

Wed, Oct 8 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-8

Today for homework, I did more linework and negative space tracings. I had to do the tracings and linework manually for the fire images manually. Also, my linework in the character in the bottom left was messed up so I had to redo that. These minor edits take a long time, but I think it will be worth it in the final project for a clean outcome.

Mon, Oct 6  CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-6

Today in class, I edited some more as some of my linework was mesed up. I also added some more negative space tracing and deleted some of the incorrect ones that I need to redo. I also deleted one of my etchings and extended another one for more continuity. In general, most of what I need to do now are small edits, and then I will be ready to print. The issue is that it is hard to find a lot of these small mistakes, but I have made good progress, despite my screen freezing twice today.

Mon, Oct 6  HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-6

Today for homework, I edited my linework and negative space tracings. I figured out how to create the negative space more efficiently, which I used to trace the upside-down castle. However, this also pointed out some issues in my etching which I had to fix. I continued simplifying my linework and making edits to ensure a cleaner design.

Fri, Oct 3 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-3

Today in class, first I edited some of my linework as it was a bit too complex and would burn up in the printer. Then, I created two more test panels, for a total of 3. I printed parts of each image in my panels to get an idea of how to improve. I think the contrast got a lot better in the water panel (right), but I do need to change the shade of the skin to make it pop more. I ran out of time in class so did not get to put linework in this one, but I will do that next time. On the earth panel (left), I thought the castle turned out great and the fire looks like it would be good too, although I need to make some linework for that.

Fri, Oct 3 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-3

Today for homework, I did a lot and made very good progress. First, I edited my etchings as I felt the new fire was not as good as the last one, so I found a way to get rid of the watermark and then added it back. I also added a small fire symbol to add a bit more detail in the third panel. Then, I created the linework for most of my objects except the fire images, which I will figure out in class, and some stuff in my 4th panel.

Tues, Sept 30 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-30

Today during class, I edited my panels and ran a test on the first panel. The test showed me that I needed more contrast in that panel so I edited that, but I did like the shapes. I also found a new fire image as the last one had a watermark I did not see until today. I put that in and then also extended the train tracks for more continuity. I think now I need to edit the 3rd Panel and then run more tests.

Tues, Sept 30 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-30

Today for homework, I spent time creating the negative space tracing and outlines for some figures in my panels. I tried using the image trace feature which I researched a bit to provide some of my etchings with some more detail and contrast. I then tried using an aspect of this feature where it generates the tracings to create my linework. I am going to confirm with Mr. Brodie, but I think this might be a valuable tool. Then, I spent some time tracing the negative space, but I spent a good chunk of time figuring out the image trace tool as it seems very helpful.

Fri, Sept 26 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-26

Today in class, I completely altered my design but still stuck with my theme. With guidance from Mr. Brodie, I made the panels more continuous and incorporated design techniques. I need to edit a bit more for homework and connect all my images, but today’s class helped me make a lot of progress.

Fri, Sept 26 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-26

Today for homework, I did the negative space for my first panel. Then, I did the linework for my second panel. I will continue doing this during class and hopefully make some good progress. I might also edit my panel design a bit more for more continuity and flow.

Wed, Sept 24 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-24

Today in class, I mainly focused on my layers. I created one for the linework, the etching, and the through cuts. Then, I started using the pen tool to trace my negative space. It is taking much longer than the practice project, as my images are more complex. I will continue tracing for homework. After that, I will add the linework details.

Wed, Sept 24 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-24

Today for homework, I created the Fire Nation panel which actually took a lot of time as getting a good image of the character Zuko was quite difficult. I had to generate many different variations in Adobe. Then, I also edited my Earth Nation panel as I felt that it looked somewhat messy. First, I created more variations of the character, King Bhumi. Once I created one that I was proud of, I reorganized the panel to make it look more clean and put together. I think I do need to edit my layers as they are a bit messy, but I have been trying to keep it separated for the most part.

Mon, Sept 22  CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-22

Today in class, I edited the Air Nation panel and made the bottom landscape which is the continuity aspect of my design. I also created my Earth Nation panel. More, I realized that everything needs to be connected to a side or another image so I fixed that. I have not been importing images, I have been creating them with very specific prompts. Next, I need to create my Fire Nation panel.

Mon, Sept 22  HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-22

Today for homework, I started working on illustrator. First, I created the water nation panel. I created a description of the character and then used the AI generator for an image. I think it turned out well but I may add more detail. I also had to play around a lot with colors and certain lines to make it the way i desired. Then, I did the air nation panel which ended up deviating from my original sketch because I had a good idea. One cool aspect of the show is the upside down air temple so I included that along with the character and nation symbol. I also had to mess with the colors, details, and lines in this panel to get it the way I wanted. I need to fix up my layers so it is more organized and then work on the other panels. I generated many variations which are not all included in this image, but I spent a lot of time getting it the way I wanted.

Fri, Sept 19 CW – Image and description of completed homework. – CWDueDate 2025-9-19

Today in class, first I finished the practice project by reprinting. It turned out very well with good contrast and linework. I am happy with the end result. I then found a reference image and sketched my 4 panels (water, air, fire, earth). I also came up with a strategy to avoid importing images into illustrator. Therefore, I believe my idea will still work. I had a productive class and got a lot done.

Today for homework, I spent my time interviewing my brother about his needs for the luminary design to identify what I need to include in my design. He said he wanted it to be useable in his dorm room and also elegant. He also said it would be a nice representation of our childhood together and he would love to take it to college with him. He did not identify any specific desired schematics, but did indicate that it should not be too big, as he wants to keep it on a desk. I have a much better idea of my design now and have already started thinking about all sides of the design. I am hoping to start designing on illustrator soon as I am very excited.

Wed, Sept 17 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-17

Today in class I did a couple of things, first I printed the practice project. Since this was my first try and I was experimenting with the settings, I did not put enough power in my etchings and there was not enough contrast. I will reprint this to improve this and make the image pop more. I also added a bit of linework as there was one line missing. Last, I added lines on the outside with the negative space tracings so I can cut out the window itself. I need to reprint this which shouldn’t be too hard and keep working on the Luminary Design.

Wed, Sept 17 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-17

Today for homework, I completed my concept sketches for the Luminary Design Challenge. I did one panel for each of my brainstormed themes: Avatar, Avengers, Madden, and my dog. They all turned out well, but I feel that the Avatar one has the most potential so I will be doing that one. Next, I need to finish printing my design for the practice challenge, create a problem statement for the Luminary Design, and start designing on illustrator.

Fri, Sept 12 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-12

*Uploaded late because of technical issues (asked in class for permission)

Today in class, I did two things. First, I brainstormed ideas for the luminary design challenge. After some time of thinking and generating ideas, I was able to decide on the theme: Avatar the Last Airbender. This was one of my favorite childhood shows. Then, I edited my design in illustrator for the practice challenge as I realized that I had some extra linework that would interfere with the printing. One side of the tree that was supposed to be behind the window had linework that was also hidden behind. Last, as the printer finally opened up after being used all class, class ended and I was not able to print my design. I will hopefully print next class or in consult.

Fri, Sept 12 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-9-12

Today for homework, there was nothing I could do because I need to print my design in class. Therefore, I just messed around on illustrator. I created a football player using the text to image generator and then outlined it. I got to use some new tools that I have not experimented with before such as the paintbrush.

Wed, Sept 10 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-10

Today in class, I finished my negative space tracing. I edited the top part and then did the whole bottom as well, as I did not realize I needed to do that as well until Mr. Brodie told me. This bottom part included the roots. Then, I merged some layers to make my workspace more organized. Now, I have the already made vector image, the negative space tracing, and the linework. After that, I spent time on my linework, making my lines more simple and spaced out so they won’t catch on fire when printing. They are now better and I need to run it on the printer next time.

Wed, Sept 10 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-10

Today for homework, I traced both of the images, the bulldog from Mr. Brodie and my tree. This is to highlight the negative space. I do think I need to get better at creating curves so I might edit the tracing in class to make it more accurate. However, overall, the tracing is good and this was a productive homework.

Mon, Sept 8  CW – Image and description of completed homework- CWDueDate 2025-9-8

*I am uploading this late because my WordPress account was not working and had to be reset

Today in class, I got to work on a project again after a couple of months! We worked on illustrator and with inspiration from the already created drawing, created our own using the AI text to image generator. I scaled mine to make it look as if part of it is infront of the window and part of it is behind—creating an angled illusion. I then used greyscale to alter the coloring, which will make sure it is more defined in printing. I also traced the bulldog in class, but then my tracing got deleted. Therefore, I will do that for homework and maybe make any alterations to my tree.
