Orthographic Projection/Drawing of IPhone 8 Plus
After Watching Tom Chi’s “Rapid prototyping Google Glass”
From this video I learned that even the most complex of designs require an outline/sketch or orthographic drawing where the first ideas of constructions are expressed visually. From there you can continue developing the more practical and specific details of the invention because you visually see what it is missing and how to add onto it. In the video, Tom Chi expresses how he had many prototypes for the Google Glass which was helpful to understand the ergonomics of the design and allow him to encounter certain problems with the invention that he could not have figured out ahead of actually building versions of it. This video relates to the whole process of the design challenge because drawing out your ideas and understanding its practicality in terms of materials and usage is fundamental to building a successful structure/invention.
List of Constraints
- The materials/ tools available to construct the phone stand are limited.
- The material of the case should be somewhat water-resistant.
- The stand should not cover the speaker or buttons necessary for usage (even if the phone is in a vertical or horizontal position)
- Necessary to use a material that does not muffle sound, but rather amplifies it.
- The stand should still hold up the phone regardless of what position it is in (portrait or landscape).
- The angle that the stand is tilted at should not interfere with its ability to record/ take photos of the user.
- Size of the stand should be able to hold the device even with different cases.
Actionable Problem Statement
“The client is looking for a product that will hold up her phone while she uses it to record videos requiring good music amplification as well as angles that do not point the camera away from her. The stand should be made of a material that will prevent it from slipping off services such as the bathroom’s marble counters. She wants a product that has a rotatable stand for effects during her videos. The client wants to minimize the space that the stand takes up with a sleek design to compliment it.”

What is the Fourth Industrial Revolution? How does it connect to Tech Design class?
According to the World Economic Forum, the fourth industrial revolution (this term coined by their founder Klaus Schwab) is a technological revolution tying together the physical, digital, and biological spheres. Features such as voice activated digital assistance, face activated recognition, health care sensors attached to smart devices have been integrated as a part of the norm. This connects to our Tech Design class because we are learning how to design products that can be printed out and constructed using the fast paced technology of 3D printing and in the class we consider factors/ constraints of the human patient and their needs intertwined with our materials and the technology we have. This enhances the experience of the users of the product while managing digital and physical components of building each structure.

Constraints:
-Thickness of the material 0.22 inch, no lines too thin

Doll House Furniture

★ Define Mode
Actionable Problem Statement:
“The client wants to receive pieces of furniture small enough to fit into her new dollhouse. She wants to have a modern design/theme to the interior with the items big enough for her barbie dolls. The rooms of the dollhouse should be filled with enough furniture that they do not seem empty but not too many pieces that there is no space to move the dolls around in the room. They should be easily movable items so that she can switch up the rooms’ organization.”
List of Constraints:
- The items need to be of similar theme (modern look, sharp lines, not too curvy designs)
- All the furniture needs to fit the use of a standard size barbie doll.
- The designs need to be somewhat heavy/stable (layers to the design) so that they pieces do not fall over or fall out easily if they doll house is moved/closed.

Dimensions of an average Barbie doll
Wingspan: 235 mm = 9.25 inches
Height: 245 mm = 9.64 inches
