In class 10/30, I printed out my last panel for my luminary design and sanded it. Then, I tested some different stains on my test piece and decided that I will stain my panels with the gunstone color.

Week 2

Concept Statement:
The four different novels pictured in the luminary design are connected by their powerful and inspiring quotes about life, purpose, and connection to others. The first panel depicts Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, which discusses the nature of human interactions and friendships between Lennie and George, the main characters. In the luminary, I will depict George and Lennie sitting together and the quote, “knowing a man well never leads to hate and nearly always leads to love.” The second panel depicts the novel East of Eden by John Steinbeck and the quote “timshel” is an inspirational quote about free will. The third panel depicts “The Old Man and the Sea” by Ernest Hemingway and the quote “A Man can be destroyed but not defeated” which is an inspirational quote about the importance of perseverance. The fourth panel depicts Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and the quote “Stuff your eyes with wonder…live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds.” The banners in all four of the sides, which have the quotes written on them, will be interconnected to represent the interconnectedness of the quotes.
