Today for homework, I put in the completed render of my carousel(it took 25.3 hours </3) into NanoBanana and created a view of about what it would look like in an actual room.

Prompt: “put the carousel lamp which spins into a room with a childish feeling on the bed stand with darker ambient lighting but there should be no humans in the image.”

Promp 2 created with the help of ChatGPT: “Place this lamp on a wooden bedside table in a cozy child’s bedroom. The room should feel warm, playful, and slightly nostalgic, with soft, dark ambient lighting. The lamp should be the main light source, casting gentle shadows and a warm glow across the bed, blankets, toys, and surrounding furniture. Include subtle decorative elements like stars, picture frames, or children’s items, but do not include any humans in the scene.”

Prompt 3: Place this lamp on a wooden bedside table in a cozy child’s bedroom. The room should feel warm, playful, and slightly nostalgic, with soft, dark ambient lighting. The lamp should be the main light source, casting gentle shadows and a warm glow across the bed, blankets, toys, and surrounding furniture. Include subtle decorative elements like stars, picture frames, or children’s items, but do not include any humans in the scene. The lamp should also be pretty small.

However, I still do not really like the size of the lamp so I altered the prompt: Place this lamp on a wooden bedside table in a cozy child’s bedroom. Place the carousel lamp on the bedside table, but make the lamp noticeably smaller—scaled to the size of a typical night-light or small decorative lamp. It should look proportionate to the table, not oversized.

This final image feels the most accurate in respect to proportions and I feel pretty satisfied with it.

Today in class, I mainly worked a bit on my luminary by creating a cap to the luminary and added another light on the cap, and I also glued on the base

Then, I couldn’t do anything because I had to wait for the rendering of my lamp and it had elapsed 2 hours and still hadn’t finished mainly because of the decals

Fri, Nov 14 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-14

Today for homework, I modified the lamp based on their rendering and added lights to the middle to create a more ambient feel. In addition, I toned down the light and added a mirror texture to the middle to imitate a carousel.

Then, I added went onto illustrator and generated some patterns for the cresting of the carousel and then combined lines and recolored it and added it as a decal onto my crestings.

Wed, Nov 12 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-12

Today in class, I created the base for my luminary then I 3D printed it.

Wed, Nov 12 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-12

Today for homework, I went to Sunday consult and completely finished all my taping for my panels.

Then, I went to consultation on tuesday again to glue up my box! Now its all done except for the base.

Lastly, I made the base for my luminary and I will print this Wednesday. In addition, I also made some changes to my lamp as I didn’t really like the color combo and I also added the frame to every lamp shade panel.

Fri, Nov 7 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-7

Today in class, I continued with taping the semi-transparent paper to the back of my luminary panels:

Fri, Nov 7 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-7

Today for homework, I worked more on the cresting of the lamp and detailing in the lamp shade. I want the top of the lamp to be framed like a mirror and I struggled a bit in figuring out how to create a working cresting for the lamp.

Wed, Nov 5 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-5

Today for classwork, I added color to two of my panels with the transparent paper. It looks really good so far!

Wed, Nov 5 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-5

Today for homework, I started colouring the surfaced of the lamp, I plan to maybe bring the design into blender or another software to reinforce the image by changing some of the rigid faces and bending them and adding depths and edges to the rods holding the horses in place.

I took inspiration in the cresting of other carousels to model a cresting for my carousel with the spline tool.

In addition, I started looking t some of the colorful stain glass designs by Frank Lloyd Right to try and plan out what colors to use for my luminary

Mon, Nov 3 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-3

Today, I printed and etched all of my luminary pieces out. Then, I stained them with the color american chestnut.

Mon, Nov 3  HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-3

Today for homework, I first finished up writing a problem statement for my lamp and created 3 other designs for my lamp

Here is my second and third ideas along with the respective tower

For my last idea, I designed a lamp with ShangHai’s skyline as a projection outline on the outside, here is the sketch the the outline that I was inspired by ShangHai’s skyline.

Then, I continued modeling the horse and finished one leg and continued the other leg. But, I realized that I probably won’t have enough time to 3D print all 6 horses so I decided to use 2D silhouette for the prototype.

Then, I finished the entire 3D model for the lamp with he horses and some of the joints. I would need to consult Mr. Brodie for further help on some of the more complicated joinery. Afterwards, I started to project out the pieces outline for cutting.

Lastly, I created art boards for each board of my panel so I can cut easily next class.

Today for homework, I finished up deleting the duplicate lines on my sketches in illustrator because it was causing my prints to be quadruple the amount of time it was supposed to take. I used the fact that duplicate lines were a bit darker than others to speed up the process. (before vs. after & after)

Then, I started to create the 3D model of the carousel horses with the use of blender. I realized how rusty I was at blender so following along with the tutorial of making the horse started to take a really long time.

Fri, Oct 24 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-24

Today in class, I started to print my panels for my luminary project. Here is the first printed panel. I plan to finish printing all the panels first then print out the layered pieces.

Fri, Oct 24 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-24

Today for homework, I finished roughly modeling the outline of the model and finshed making the top plate rotate. I used the shell tool again to hollow out the lamp shade but I still have to find a way to attach the shade without it moving with the horses.

Then, I finished making the rotating board at the bottom of the shade where the horses will be attached to. I used two clamps to secure the board.

Wed, Oct 22 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-22

In class today, I got started on continuing the design upwards I modified the stars a little so that the railing there doesn’t look awkward and also modified the length of the rod of the bulb. With the help of this Autodesk post that I found, I was able to make the center.

Wed, Oct 22 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-22

Today for homework, I finished designing the railings for my lamp, I extended the bottom of each pole to be the joint for each railing. In addition, since when I first scaled the base, the point where I scaled it to was not on center, it was off so I had to recenter it by rescaling it. I used the inscribed polygon tool to make the railings and estimated the dimensions for the exact sketch

Mon, Oct 20  CW – image and description of completed homework- CWDueDate 2025-10-20

Today in class, I realized that the scale of the lamp had became off since I modified the way that the original base was designed. I reimagined it with the new dimensions and realized that they didn’t look good. While resizing it, I had a lot of trouble since I didn’t know how to do it properly and had to redraw the sketch which is why I didn’t get a lot done.

After successfully scaling it down, I started working on the lamp shape.

Lastly, I added in the padding between each step and combined them by cutting. In addition, I regrouped the components so that it is a lot cleaner but I had some trouble because at first it wouldn’t let me move more than six bodies into one component for some reason.

Mon, Oct 20  HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-20

For homework today, I completed the stair cases without designing the parts separating the different steps because I realized that although I could make their thickness 0.125 like the plywood words, I can’t cut both the side and the front of the board so that is a problem that I am working on fixing.

Since each board is slightly tilted into the cardboard, I can make openings in those places to secure each board.

As for the horses on the carousel that would be hanging, I was thinking about 3D printing them after modeling in tinkerCAD so that it would have a more realistic feel instead of printing out multiple layers of a horse in 2D and layering them. In addition, for the details on the center of the carousel I was thinking about layering frames and others.

Thur, Oct 16 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-16

Today for classwork, I managed to get the joints working with motion link and the help of this YouTube video.

Then, I started working on the base of my lamp.
At first, my design idea was to have a half circle
then an arc extending out of it for the stairs.
However, I quickly realized that this looked terrible and didn’t function.

I went online to search for some references and drew these sketches of a top view look of the stairs on my notebook. Lastly, I started to work on my design in fusion.

Thur, Oct 16 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-16

Today for homework, I started to put together the models and joints of my motor. First, I imported everything from goBilda and then I dragged them along to the right place.

Then, I built the lightbulb according to the reference drawing given with revolve and fillet tools.

Lastly, I added in rigid groups and revolve joints but they’re not really working as they should right now.

Tues, Oct 14 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-14

In class, I started drawing the side view of my carousel lamp. At first, my rough draft was not very accurate and also off scale. Then, I started a new and improved drawing based on the rough draft. In the new one, I included more detailed estimates of sizing and traced the lightbulb instead of free handing it. The left image is the before and the right is the after.

After I finished the rough draft of my drawing, I started finding pieces for the motor with the help of Mr.Brodie. The photo to the right is the parts I plan to use

After finding the pieces in person, I went onto goBilda to find the fusion models of the parts. I had some errors loading in the models but after restarting fusion and waiting for a bit, the parts eventually loaded. Then, I imported the parts onto the base that I built in another file.

Tues, Oct 14 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-10-14

For homework, I cleaned up the edges for each rectangle so they are perfectly fitted for each box, the red parts represent a solid part that stand up while the white parts on the leaf are on the first layer. Now it is realllly ready for print.

Fri, Oct 10 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-10

Today in class, I finished outlining the pieces that I wanted to cut out and print seperately to layer on top of each leaf and also decided that I wanted to etch the parts of the circle instead of layering them. Now I just have to print everything and stain them and I should be done with my luminary.

Then, I started working on a life-sized sketch of my lamp. I measured each dimension in inches and this is the top view of every layer I want to see from the top with the dimensions labeled.

For the motor, I plan to use this youtube tutorial to guide me through the steps of making the motor and also pick out the specific gears and items I would want to use for the lamps later and buy them.

Fri, Oct 10 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-10

Today for homework, I completed outlining the lines that I want to detail on each leaf and circle on my design. however, I realized that some of the leaf branches were crooked and need to be fixed which is also something I worked on. In addition, I started modeling which piece i wanted to cut out and layer on top of the leaves.

Wed, Oct 8 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-8

In class, I started researching lamp ideas and designs. I lived in Irvine for 6 years before moving to New Jersey for school and every year there would be a fair in Great Park. I remember going with my friends and each year we would ride the carousel that is just in the middle of the park. When I was looking at other lamps, the idea that the lamps could have accessories hanging out from the lamp reminded me of a carousel and that carousel specifically which is why I started looking into designs of carousels and spinning lamps.

The Great Park Carousel

All the lamps below were drawn by an artist on xhs and I was inspired by the way that she would design the lamps with items hanging from the lamp shade. The lamps with hanging items that I was inspired by:

Then, I started drawing the lamp that I wanted to make. I originally wanted to build a carousel that hang from a stem on one side and rotated. However, I realized that the motor had to be installed in the base and so I changed my design to a table lamp with the middle rotating rod being covered by the stem in a carousel. Below is my sketch of the carousel inspired by the one in Great Park. I also decided to add stairs into the carousel so the base can be a bit thicker for the motor.

Wed, Oct 8 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-8

For homework, I finished the outline for all panels so I think I can cut now and I also worked on some designing for which pieces to cut out and stain and layer and which pieces to etch and how I want the leaves to overlay over each other.

In addition, for the designs inside the leaves, I was thinking about doing something similar to these luminary designs I found of other lights made that were based on Frank Lloyd Right’s stained glass designs.

Mon, Oct 6  CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-6

In class, I changed the design of the first panel and connected it to the last panel by duplicating the last panel so I can see the visual connection happening since the rectangle wraps around. I mostly worked on the bottom part by deleting everything and redrawing and replanning the design.

Mon, Oct 6  HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-6

For homework, I worked on and finished the second panel. I decided to adjust the design on the bottom part a lot because it originally wasn’t fitting into the vibe of the other panels and flowing nicely with too many triangles. Then, I worked on adding the parts that I might want to etch/paint on the board. However, I was also thinking about printing small details that I could maybe add onto the board for layering and details.

Fri, Oct 3 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-3

Previously, I already printed my two test panels but the first one failed since I didn’t realize that the outline of the border would also cut into the material. For the second panel, it was relatively successful and it made me realize I needed to thicken the line weights

Today in class, I finished deleting the multiple lines of the third and fourth panel and they should be ready for printing but I am debating on how to add the etching for them. Then, I worked on improving the fluidity of the second to third panel and the line weights in the second panel and also worked on the first panel. In addition, I aded some details to the third panel to connect some of the pieces.

Fri, Oct 3 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-3

For homework, I finished the third and fourth panel of my design. I improved fluency of the panels by connecting the lines and adjusted the line weights especially because this sketch was the first one I did so many of the lines were extremely thin. Then, I worked on deleting double lines which I found a lot of and some even had up to 5 layers of lines on the base layer which I don’t know how it got there. For next class, I will work on the first and second panels.

Tues, Sept 30 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-30

In class today, I wasn’t able to find my file in the usb drives because they had been wiped so I started to work on restoring my progress and adjusting line weights for the third and fourth panel. I had some troubles with reorganizing because when I thickened some lines and moved them they affects other shapes around them. However, after a lot of adjusting, I got the shape to flow evenly again. I plan to finish the third and fourth panel for homework.

Tues, Sept 30 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-30

For homework, I worked on improving fluidity between these three panels. I think that the right side of the second panel was messing thing up which is why I altered the triangular parts into flat lines. In addition, I also got each panel ready for panel by combining the frame with the parts so that the inside won’t be cut out like what happened last class. As for the third panel, I’m waiting to recover my progress from last class since for some reason the previous sketch didn’t save onto my computer. Also, for the first panel I think that it is already relatively ok but I might alter the line weights.

Fri, Sept 26 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-26

Today in class, I worked on the fluidity of the panels and their visual connections by adjusting positions of lines and such. In addition, I got the two panels that I was done with ready for printing. However, I lost some of my progress on the new sketches but I think it is saved on one of the drives so I have to go find that next class.

These are the test panels I did. For the first panel, I didn’t realize the black lines on the outside would also be cut which is why some of it was detached. However, for the second panel this was adjusted and the print was successful

As for future improvement I would like to increase my line weights since it looks much thinner when I print it compared to when it is visualized in illustrator.

Fri, Sept 26 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-26

Today, for homework, I finished outlining all four panels and I will refine it in class and think about how to incorporate the etching part in the drawings.

Wed, Sept 24 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-24

I finished outlining the second panel. The outlining strokes method saved so much time!! : D

Wed, Sept 24 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-24

For homework, I worked some more on creating the sketches on illustrator. I found that combining the pen tool and the rectangle and eclipse tool is the best way to approch designing out the image

Mon, Sept 22  CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-22

In class, I started working on tracing and outlining the design I made. I overlayed the images after scanning them and I’m using the shape modes to combine rectangles to make adding line weights to the design faster.

Mon, Sept 22  HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-22

This was my first edited rough draft of what the new designs would look like for the palm tree and shoreline. I was inspired by the Tree of Life for the first piece which is represented by the leaves in the first panel and I found an interesting design featuring a lot of circles called March Ballons made by Frank Lloyd Wright which I incorporated into the second image.

However, I thought that my design was a little too complicated to be similair to Frank Lloyd Wright’s piece so I went over it in semi transparent paper to create two new designs and also finished the other two panels. Now I just need to figure out how to transfer this to illustrator

Fri, Sept 19 CW – Image and description of completed homework. – CWDueDate 2025-9-19

In class, I worked on completeing my final design for the luminary. I decided that two panels would have palm trees and beaches which could incorporate aspescts of the Tree of Life design while the sun and shore would be on the other two panels which can incorporate the Playhouse’s design with circles. Here is my rough draft.

This was designed with the help of Ms. Kasmarek. However, I plan to change it when doing homework because I don’t really feel that it is in the style of Frank L. Wright and I think that the tree panel on the very left needs some work. In addition, I want to change this design because it is too asymmetric

Fri, Sept 19 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-19

For homwork, I did some more research on the specific style that Frank Lloyd Wright designed in. I found that he prefers horizontalality. In addition, to incoporate his style of organic architechture, I decided to find some things in nature that I can make abstract from my hometown in California.

I chose to first focus on the design of the waves without putting it into geometric patterns first as I want to lay out the design first then turn it into lines and geometric shapes. Then I thought of palm trees and its everywhere on the west coast and I always see palm trees next to the highways and neighbourhoods.

Wed, Sept 17 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-17

Today in class, I researched the meaning behind various stain glass pieces designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and thought about how I would incorporate this into my design.

This piece was designed for a playhouse. It is different to Frank Lloyd Wright’s usual style with purely geometric features and primary colored parts. It was later referred to as a “kinder-symphony” and thought to have been inspired by a parade.

This piece is often referred to as the Tree of Life and it was designed for the reception room and second floor bedrooms of the Darwin d. Martin house. It demonstrates his preferred Prairie Style with the geometric shapes. The piece is interpreted with the square base being the pot, the trunk being the vertical lines and the branches being the diagonals. It is also one of his most known designs.

This piece is called Oak Park skylight. It was installed as skylights in Frank’s studio in Oak Park Illinois. It demonstrates his philosophy of blending nature with building with the earthy colors.

This piece is called the Autumn Sumac and it is installed in the Susan Lawrence Dana house in Springfield Illinois. It is a geometric abstraction of the prairie sumac plant which shows his style of combining nature with building.

Wed, Sept 17 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-17

For homework tonight, I brainstormed ideas for my luminary. For themes for my luminary, I decided to use patterns inspired by the stained glasses famous American architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed for the interiors of the architecture he built. I really like his designs of buildings that portray a style of organic architecture where he tries to blend nature with his modern styled buildings. In addition, for each building he designs, he also hand makes the stained glasses in his buildings which results in beautiful patterns consisting of geometric shapes instead of soft lines.

For each of the four panels, I plan to use different patterns based on the his stain glass art. However, I was also thinking about using 2 : 2 or maybe four panels of similar patterns for a more consistent flow throughout the lamp.

Since both of my parents majored in architecture, I was always given a lecture on the background history of the building and the designer, their style of designing, and the significance of the impact that they made on architectural history as a whole everywhere my family went. Overtime, I also started to appreciate the beauty in the buildings that we visit and the thought that went into each part of the building. In addition, I also started to remember some architects whose pieces I enjoyed more than others, such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier(more focused on exterior and simple designs). This is why I chose to incorporate his designs into my luminary as I thought that their art would flow nicely with the square shape of the luminary.

Here are some lamps inspired & designed by Frank Lloyd Wright:

Fri, Sept 12 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-12

Today in class, I finished printing my window design. I had to print it twice because on the first time, the lines didn’t cut through and parts of the flowers got burned off because of the details in the flower. The design on the left is the initial print and the second is the final print. I also realized that with a light power on the outlining the flowers turn out less burnt and they are more likely to survive the cutting.

Fri, Sept 12 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-9-12

I selected some of the distinct colors in the original image first. Then, I used the shape builder to combine the sections of the flower that were very similar shades of gray to each other. After combining most of the colors, I felt that I had preserved the 3D feel of the flowers while simplifying the shapes that the image contains. The finished product as detailed is the flower after I touched up the image.

The two imaged down below are the outlines that I created before and after I simplified the image. As you can see, there are noticeably less lines in the flowers, vases, and leaves.

Wed, Sept 10 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-10

Today, we learned to create a vector outline for the image for a better engraving. To do this, we fill the shape with one color then reversed the outline color, which is clear, with the inside color. Then we changed the stroke to 0.0001 for thinner lines. However, the ai-generated images contain complex shapes so I worked on simplifying the image outline so that the engraver would not have any issues while making the flowers.

Wed, Sept 10 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-10

I decided to change the item that was in my window because I didn’t really like the way the cat looked in the window. While creating the flowers, I manually added a windowsill with the pen tool and drew a platform for the vase to sit on. Then, I created a new layer and outlined the flowers and the white spaces in the middle of the flowers. The generative tool was instructed to create a vase with lilies and hydrangeas.

Mon, Sept 8  CW – Image and description of completed homework- CWDueDate 2025-9-8

Today, we practiced preparing the bulldog windows for etching. Then, we used the empty window to generate a object of our choice between the window. We also learned how to use the pen tool to outline the background and create negative space. Lastly, we learned how to organize our workspace and delete unnecessary tools such as gradient and add in tools like the pathfinder.

Mon, Sept 8  HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-8

I watched the videos regarding how to document progress on the website and fusion
