This is my final rendering with an AI background. I put the rendered fusion model in, and used a chat-gpt prompt in nanobanana ai. I think it looks pretty good, and is almost exactly how I envisioned the project.

Wed, Nov 12 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-12

For homework, I adjusted more of my renderings so that the light would be an actual light. Here is my best one:

In class, I am not going to make my prototype lamp, so I am going to render a picture. Here is my renders:

Fri, Nov 7 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-7

For homework I started the print on my home printer for my shade, but it took so long and it wasn’t complete by the morning.

Wed, Nov 5 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-5

In class, I glued together my luminary, and it is now completed. I will start making my lamp now.

Wed, Nov 5 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-5

for homework I cut out my last panel

Mon, Nov 3 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-3

Today, I created a small 3d print that will screw into the light so that it stays. For homework, I will be printing it out and looking if it works. I also completed the two shades, so I will be starting the prototype next class. I also finished both shades, so I will be printing those ones out in both clear filament and wood.

In class, I printed out another of my panels.

Thur, Oct 30 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-30

For homework, I forgot to create a mission statement, so here it is:

I want to create a mood light. Although the bulb does not change color, I want there to be a way to switch the shade so that the light that comes out is a different color. It should not be huge, but also not very small, big enough to be on the corner of a desk or side table and not be too big.

Fri, Oct 24 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-24

Because parents were in class, I didn’t get a lot done. I showed my mom around the classroom, and showed her what I had been working on for the past term.

Fri, Oct 24 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-24

For homework, I switched around some joints and connections so that it is possible to have the same base but be able to switch the shade. I am going to create one that is 3d printed, but also another one that is made out of the paper that we used for the luminary. I am going to see which one looks best, and choose that one when I start prototyping, which if I cant print, I will start in class next week.

Wed, Oct 22 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-22

Today, I tried to cut out my other panels but everyone else was on the printer. I looked if painting on my panels would look good, and I concluded that it wouldn’t look better than it would without any paint. I also helped Blades to splatter paint onto his paper.

Wed, Oct 22 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-22

For homework, I adjusted my light for the lamp, because before it was not perfectly aligned with the base and wouldn’t fit. The cord would have been bent too much at the bottom, so I fixed it. I also added a hole so that the cord could come out.

Mon, Oct 20  CW – image and description of completed homework- CWDueDate 2025-10-20

In class, I continued with my lamp design, creating the shade and making the top. I also completed my first panel, which is shown below.

Mon, Oct 20  HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-20

For homework, I put paper on one of my panels during sunday consult. I also continued with my lamp design.

Thur, Oct 16 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-16

In class, I cut out one of my panels.

Thur, Oct 16 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-16

For homework, I started to design my lamp by designing my base. I made some set dimensions, and then made a part where you can screw the top and bottom on so that you can access the internals even when it is complete.

Tues, Oct 14 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-14

In class, I got some inspiration for my lamp. I am going to 3d print the light cover, and have lots of geometric shapes in it. It is going to be printed in clear petg, so that the light shines through it. I also decided that the base will be wood, so I combine both my knowledge of 3d printing with laser cutting. Here are some reference images that I found as well as my 3d printed base for my panels. I didn’t get to print my panels again.

Version 1.0.0

Tues, Oct 14 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-10-14

For homework, I came to sunday consult and got some more tests cuts in so that I know what my panels look like. I am going to lower the power down to 60 because the engravings were darker than I would have liked. I also printed my final version of my light holder, this time with feet and fuzzy skin, so that glue would stick to it better when i glue it to my panels. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the test pieces, and when I was writing this my print wasn’t done, so I don’t have any pictures right now.

Fri, Oct 10 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-10

In class, I edited my design for my light holder because both of the printers were in use. I created a charging hole and a hole to turn it on, as well as joinery so that it would connect to the main wood panels.

Fri, Oct 10 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-10

For homework, I printed out my light holder on my 3D printer. I think I made it too big, so I am going to look if it fits in class.

Wed, Oct 8 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-8

In class, I tried to cut my two completed panels but i didn’t get a chance to print. I completed my linework for my other two panels so that I can print them and I also created a holder for the light in the linework. I will print the light holder to see if it works, and then put holes in the luminary so that I can slide the part into the luminary and it won’t slide out.

Wed, Oct 8 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-8

For homework, I started my linework by completing my most complex panel, my second one. In class, I will complete the first, third, and fourth, and try to get another test panel out so that I can fine tune my design.

Mon, Oct 6  CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-6

In class today, I got a new way to do linework that doesn’t do the double line. It is the shape builder tool that blades gave me. It works really well, but takes a while, so I will be doing this for homework tonight.

Mon, Oct 6  HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-6

For homework, I finished up the through cuts for the first two panels. My way of making them resulted in the line being counted twice, which resulted in two cuts on the laser cutter. I fixed that my manually erasing them, and also completed the through cuts for the first panel.

Fri, Oct 3 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-3

In class, because it was a 50 minute period, all I did was cut out my test prints. I did two of them, the first one engraving and the second one both engraving and through cuts. The first one my power and speed made the engraving too dark, so I lowered it which made it a bit better, but no exactly where I wanted it to be. My through cuts were also not exactly where I wanted them, so I am going to manually draw that out with the pen tool.

Fri, Oct 3 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-3

For homework, I did multiple things. First, i created the through cuts for the first and second panels, which I am planning to test in class. I did this by using the pathfinder tool to combine the object into its perimeter, and then using outline stroke to make it a stroke instead of an object with fill. I also made my entire design only 5 colors in total, so that when I engrave it every detail is shown. I also cleaned up my linework with the pathfinder and outline stroke tool, to eliminate overlapping strokes and complexity, especially now that there are only a couple colors.

linework improved with simplicity around the head and chain, and less overlapping lines
engraving panel with new colors
new through cut layer with outline of objects to create negative space

Tues, Sept 30 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-30

Today in class i created my linework. I am going to test my design and see if the colors are right next time because I think I will need to do more editing on that side.

Tues, Sept 30 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-30

For homework, I tried to create something that would connect the panels together other than the ground. I decided on wisps of air, or fog, because that is a common theme between the games. I only got one good generation, but I will generate more and complete the first two panels and get started on the third. I also think that I will have certain colors for the two games, red for the last two panels and blue for the first two so that there is a distinction between them and because those colors are from the color palette of the game.

Fri, Sept 26 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-26

In class, I continued to design my panels. I adjusted my first and second panel with backdrops, and also put more detail into the main subject of the panel.

Fri, Sept 26 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-26

For homework, I started to make the final design for the first 2 panels because I had most of the images I needed to create them.

Wed, Sept 24 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-24

In class, I continued generating images and started to design my 4 panels in illustrator.

Wed, Sept 24 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-24

I generated a lot of variations for homework and got some good ones for my background and the main characters.

Mon, Sept 22  CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-22

In class, I made more variations. I wasn’t happy with most of them, but I found a couple that were good. I will do more of this until I get all of the desired images. If I can’t get it, I will adjust my design so that it can be done.

Mon, Sept 22  HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-22

For homework, I started to try to get vectors of the knight. I used AI to create a prompt and had reference images for it to work on. I got pretty close, but I will continue to work on this until I achieve something I like.

Fri, Sept 19 CW – Image and description of completed homework. – CWDueDate 2025-9-19

In class, I created another sketch of my panels. Here they are:

Fri, Sept 19 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-19

For homework, I created some sketches of my four panels. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of them, and they are at my house. The first panel consists of the start of the Hollow Knight game and the city that you start in. The second is the final boss fight of the game, as depicted below. The third is the start of Silksong, and the fourth is the final boss, just like the others. They will all be connected by the background, which I will try to create in illustrator.

Wed, Sept 17 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-17

This picture below is of the final boss of the first game, Hollow Knight.

The two pictures below is the final boss of the second game, Silksong.

Below is my explanation for my theme:

For my luminary, I am creating four panels depicting the Hollow Knight/Silksong game. I am creating this theme because these two games are some of my favorites of all time. The second one, Silksong, came out a couple of weeks ago and is already one of the most popular games in the world. This theme would resonate deeply with me, but also with others who like the game as well.

Wed, Sept 17 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-17

For homework, I looked for ideas for my luminary and came up with a couple. I looked online for some inspiration and got pictures to base my drawings on. The first one is a Hollow Knight/Silksong idea, where the two games are on the luminary. The second is one for an F1 race, where the cars are all along the sides of the luminary.

Fri, Sept 12 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-12

In class, I cut out my eagle. There were a little too many lines near the eye, so I will take that into consideration in the future. I also drew out an idea for my luminary.

Fri, Sept 12 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-9-12

For homework, I created the lines that will define the eagle better. It took a little bit, but in the end, it all worked out great.

Wed, Sept 10 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-10

In class, I completed coloring my eagle and got it good. I also helped Darshan cut his out, which I think was very successful.

Wed, Sept 10 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-10

For homework, I adjusted some of the shapes and gray shades so that it was less complex, but I couldn’t find a way to make the beak less complex without making it not look right. Next time, I will start with a less complex image so that making it simple is a lot easier and not as hard.

Mon, Sept 8  CW – Image and description of completed homework- CWDueDate 2025-9-8

In class, I started to review how to use Illustrator and created this artwork. I used AI-generated vectors to create the eagle, and then traced the negative space and shifted some colors to make it less complex. I will continue to make it less complex as I continue this project.
