Tom Chi Response:

I learned that there is often a very simple way to get started with a problem. you don’t need to overthink and make something overly complex. He describes how he was able to make a janky thing that could give a similar experience to what the final design would be. this allowed you to see if it would even be a good idea to make it.

I learned that our technology is constantly evolving, and that as a species, the rate at which our tech is improving is increasing. we are in another tech revolution, and there are more breakthrough happening every day.

Initial tennis court design for luminary. It looks very simple, so I will most likely use something else, but I’ll keep this as a backup.
this is called a Hilbert curve. I’m going to do the one in purple, because this seems like the best one before the tolerances are too small and the wood could easily break.
Grid mapping for space filling curve pattern
finished drawing initial pattern
First iteration of patterns. by utilizing positive and negative space differently, 4 different rectangles can be made from the same pattern.

I decided to make it more complex by giving the original line some thickness to make patterns from that.
Here’s how the new patterns turned out
Finished pieces after adding joinery and feet
Swapped joinery on two of the pieces so similar panels are on opposite sides
