Lville Design

Dillan R.

Classwork 5/16– I had completed most of the 3rd sides’ geometrical designs. I will go back and add some more to it.

Classwork 5/15– I have finished two sides of the luminary. Onto the loop of the coaster and then a main drop.

Classwork 5/4– I completed the walls sizing and sketching. I am yet to begin sketching the design.

Finished Desktop Organizer 5/4– West found the organizer to be greatly functional. He uses it for many different items. He likes the design although I feel I could’ve done a better job cleaning it up (maybe staining the wood). But either way it does exactly what he wanted it to and he made a few good comments about it. Big smile and thank you from West.  “I can’t wait to have this on my presidential desk,” says West.

P.S. West is going to be Griswold’s house president for the 2023-24 school year.

5/3 Classwork– Organizer for West has been finished. I’ve finished all sanding and gluing.

5/2 Homework– I’ve drawn a better sketch incorporating more ideas and have also thought of the positive and negative spaces. The black lines will be positive except the clouds will have a mix of both.

Homework 5/1– I decided to do something unique and I thought a roller coaster track would have a nice luminary display. I’m planning on making the clouds and the sky more geometric with a few subtle touches like birds.

Homework 4/30– Contemplating whether I should make a pattern design on all four sides, or if I should make a bonsai tree design with a cool light display side for a magic touch to the design.

Homework 4/12/2023 – Finish 3D design. The separated component is the part that will be 3D printed. Also added all DXF files/sketches to a new folder.

Homework 4/10/2023 – I had finished the front wall and had decided to make the front wall and drawer wall one piece because of its structural benefits. It would be stronger once glued and it would be easier to piece together.

Classwork 4/6/2023- Finished the mini drawer’s upper shelf. I had to re-sketch the divider wall and far right mountain face.

Classwork 4/4/2023- Ran into a few problems with the joint-ery but I will be able to fix them during my next session on fusion. I got a lot done with the right side, including the drawer outer walls.

Homework 4/3/2023- I finished 3D modelling two of the large mountain shaped walls.

In Class Questions 3/23 & Homework Interview 3/27- I had designed an interview to gather detailed feedback so that I could begin sketches.

In Class & Homework 3/27 & 3/28- I drew up sketches so that I could take the next step in the Design Thinking Process. The transition from Ideate Mode to Prototype Mode.

Addressing the Problem Paragraph

During my conversation with West, I could idealize his modern desk organizer right in front of me, sitting on his desk creating more space for him to work. West had many notebooks and pens lying around on his desktop as well as taking up a majority of his drawer space. It seemed like it was almost necessary that I make this organizer for West because he lives in a mini room with two other roommates. I am planning to make the notebook space vertical as I do not think there will be enough space on his custom 12x8in organizer for them to fit horizontally. I will incorporate a small place to allow West to have easy access to his pens and pencils. I’d thought that a hidden compartment would also be helpful to West as he also had cash lying around on his desk. He mentioned how excited he was to see the outcome of the design I would come up with as he had really liked the fact that I was planning on putting all of his custom components into the project.

Homework 3/27/2023- Me and West went over the reasons a desktop organizer would be helpful to him and I began idealizing and sketching.

In Class Work 3/28 and 3/30- On both of these days in-class I’d built a low-resolution cardboard prototype of my project. A few components had been improvised during that process.

Prototype Feedback

After consulting with West about the prototype, we both decided to re-model the sides and back walls to all be mountain ranges in order to have a consistent design across the whole organizer. Not only that but I have improvised a small drawer in the bottom of the organizer in front of the pencil compartment since the original idea of a hidden sliding door would be too hard to incorporate. Another improvement we’d both implemented into our final design was the size upgrade. Once I had started modelling, I had realized that the notebooks wouldn’t fit in the designated notebook area due to the material thickness on both sides cutting into the 8 inches of width on the organizer. Therefore, the final design is not changed but has just had some very minor improvements.

Homework 4/2/2023- I’ve written this paragraph on ways I could’ve improved the model based on its prototype, before actually modelling it on Fusion.

In Class Work 4/3/2023- I started the 3D modelling on Fusion. This Component specifically will be the bottom platform.
