Here is the section view of my lamp.

Week 10
Fri, Nov 14 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-14
I regenerated some images, they look al ittle bit better. Honestly, this is my completed project!

Fri, Nov 14 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-14
Using nanobanana, I put my lamp into a AI generated image. I wanted to make more modifications but I ran out of free uses. I am completely done with my lamp project now. This is a good rendering but it is out of proportion and I can’t generate another image. I have tried many ways and many sites and it just isn’t working so this image will have to suffice.
Below is my modified instructions that I was unable to use:
Insert this model as a lamp, with light shining out of the bottom of the box upwards onto the figure skater. make the figure skater a 3D rotating model as if it was a figure in a music box and add color to it as if it were a real figure skater. Place this lamp on the nightstand next to the bed in a dark room. Make the vibe of the photo cottagecore. Make the photo a little more zoomed out to include more of the room.

Wed, Nov 12 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-12
I rendered lamp more by playing around with the light setting. I also added knobs to the window. Finally, I downloaded my lamp so that I can put it into its ideal environment with AI. I also helped someone put together their luminary and finished the final touches on my luminary.

Wed, Nov 12 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-12
I made the hole in the back of the music box so that the lamp can be plugged in. I made the silhouette of the skater and extruded it. I also rendered my model, and I chose to make it a polished wood.

Week 9
Fri, Nov 7 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-7
Using CA and wood glue, I assembled my luminary. It took a lot of work because it was unstable but eventually it worked. I also kept helping Emily glue the panels of her luminary.

Fri, Nov 7 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-7
I’m pretty much finished with my lamp model, the only thing I need to do now is add the silhouette of the figure skater. I also might add some simple cutouts to represent that there is supposed to be a design in the area.

Wed, Nov 5 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-5
I trimmed all of my panels and resumed the print for my base because it ran out of filament midway so I had to refill it. Then I helped Emily glue the backs of her panels because her design is very intricate.

Wed, Nov 5 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-5
I got the back joint to work and finished the top of the lamp. I modeled the hinge for the front window but it isn’t working and I don’t know why yet. I only have to model the inside and the window now. I also need to add the silhouette and add the designs.

Mon, Nov 3 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-11-3
I sanded all of my panels and glued them to white paper using the glue. I learned how to use the glue and the method for making sure that there are no creases and pressing the panel down. I also started 3D printing my hexagon light stand.

Mon, Nov 3 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-3
I modified a lamp stand so that it fits my design of six sides to be 3D printed. I also went to Sunday consult to print all of my panels, so I’ll be finished with my luminary soon. I also started modeling my lamp in Fusion, and need to get the hinge figured out. The hinge itself is working, but for some reason, it’s not connecting to the panel to rotate it as well.

Week 8
Thur, Oct 30 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-30
I learend about the motor and started actually designing my lamp. I also imported the parts of the motor into fusion and am ready to start modeling my lamp. Mr. Brodie also told me it is okay if I don’t 3D print my figure skater since the lamp project is only a prototype anyways. He says it is okay for me to just print a silhouette and maybe add some etching and lineart.

Thur, Oct 30 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-30
I started fleshing out my design and learning how to make freeform objects in Fusion. I learned about the Freeform and modify tool and started making the figure skater. I also drew out my design, and started designing the smaller details. I also gathered some concept images.

Week 7
Fri, Oct 24 CW – image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-24
Family weekend. I was printing, but I since I took a break between the line work and the etching, I had to manually realign the canvas, which did not work out. My line work ended up not being completely in the right place. I restarted and etched my first panel again, and I was on track to finish it by the end of class. For some reason though after the etch finished, it started going over again. Therefore, I wasn’t going to finish everything by the end of class, even though my etching looked a lot better. I finished the etching and line art by the end of class, and Mr. Brodie agreed to finish the vector through cut for me. I also showed my mom around and showed her the projects, so I don’t really have a photo of that.

Fri, Oct 24 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-24
I did some brainstorming for my lamp, and I found a bunch of references for each idea and did my concept sketches. Once I choose one, I’ll find more images so that my vision becomes clearer.

Wed, Oct 22 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-22
I finished the line art for the three-headed dog and did all the finishing touches. I am completely done with Adobe Illustrator, and I started printing. I only got my etching done, so I saved the file on the printer so that I can hopefully do the line art in the correct place.

Wed, Oct 22 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-22
I’ve finished the line work and did the finishing touch for five panels, and the only line work I have to do left is the three-headed dog’s. Specifically, I did the line work of the herd of bulls, the lion, the and the deer. I also finally combined their vector through cuts and line work in preparation for printing.

Mon, Oct 20 CW – image and description of completed homework- CWDueDate 2025-10-20
I started modeling the light bulb, and learned how to make the drawing to scale. I also started brainstorming, and I kind of want to do a music box design, except with a figure skater inside. I want it to spin, so I’ll need a motor on the bottom, and I want it to be able to be opened.

Mon, Oct 20 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-20
I finished the line art for the warrior and did the lineart for the horses and the tree. I also started the line art for the bulls and I fully completed three panels which are now ready to print. I just have to do some more line art and the finishing touches, and then print.

Week 6
Thur, Oct 16 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-16
I started some of the line art, finishing the one for bird and I am deciding for which images I should do line art. I also started the line art for the warrior. I was waiting to print but the people printing were taking a long time.

Thur, Oct 16 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-16
I implemented all of Mr. Brodie’s advice, as I made the deer fit more but also made it protrude. I also finished redrawing the board and even added a pattern to it. I simplified the hydra by removing some of the heads, and had to create a lot of new outlines which took a lot of time. I should be about done with Adobe Illustrator now.

Tues, Oct 14 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-14
I was absent
Tues, Oct 14 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-10-14
I did test prints of my etches and finally retraced the boar. The test prints have the settings: 30 speed-70 power which was darker, and 50 speed-80 power which was slightly lighter.
I also got feedback from Mr. Brodie:
- Make the deer and other animals fit more in the grame
- Subtract the heads of the hydra and one of the bulls
- Make some drawings go out of the grame
- Delete the space between columns in the stable
- Do this all on another copy of the drawings.

Week 5
Fri, Oct 10 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-10
I finished simplifying the three-headed dog and created an outline for it. I also manually traced an outline for the cow stable. It took a long time simplifying the dog as it was really complicated and I was assembling two generated images into one. The only thing I have left now is the boar and to decide how the images will overlap.

Fri, Oct 10 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-10
I simplified the warrior and the apple basket, as well as created the outline for them. I only have one panel left and the final touches left, and then I’ll be done. I haven’t done much work on the lamp yet, just generating some general ideas.

Wed, Oct 8 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-8
I generated a new tree and simplified it. I also simplified the horses more and created their outline. I kept simplifying the three-headed dog and I am almost done with the panels. Only a few left to go.

Wed, Oct 8 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-8
I made outlines for the deer, bulls, birds, and singular bull. I also finished simplifying the herd of bulls, the singular bull, and the deer. I started simplifying the three headed dog, but am not finished yet. I am now over halfway done, and I only have two panels left.

Mon, Oct 6 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-6
I continued simplifying the bulls and started making the outline for the hydra. I also generated a new image for the singular bull and the deer. I had to manually edit the hydra outline a lot because there was a lot of individual lines inside of it as well. I am still not completely done with the outline, but I’ve got most of it done.

Mon, Oct 6 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-6
I reorganized the images so that it would fit better artistically. I generated a new bull and started simplifying the herd of bulls. I also finished the outline of the lion and simplified it. I generated a new image for the dog, but was never satisfied, so I combined two images.

Week 4
Fri, Oct 3 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-3
I learned how to flatten the image and make the outline so that I don’t have to manually trace everything. I simplified and colored the bull in the stable and finished simplifying the horses. I also started rearranging some of the pictures but I haven’t decided a definite order yet. I will have to make up all the work that got deleted.

Fri, Oct 3 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-3
For some reason, all of my work reset and now my work from all of the previous days are gone. I am frustrated so I decided not to work on the boar and the deer for now and instead started simplifying the horses and the the cow that will be inside the stable. I will have to redo all my work from the previous few days which is annoying. I also started making the outline of the lion for the negative space which isn’t shown in the picture.

Tues, Sept 30 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-30
I added more detail to the boar and colored it. I also colored the deer and started simplifying the lion and figuring the colors out. I am also deciding the change the order of the animals so that there is more visual balance between the sides. I want to make it so that there is a strong piece on each side and a less strong animal on each side to seem more balanced. I also tested out my design and it works fine, which is good.

Tues, Sept 30 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-30
I finished the layout of my luminary in Fusion, so I’ll be able to test the structure next class. I regenerated the images for the boar and deer. I was happy with the deer but I didn’t like any of the boar generations. I imported a picture from online and traced it instead so I could have my own imagined boar. I started simplifying the deer and making it lighter because it is supposed to be a white deer.

Week 3
Fri, Sept 26 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-26
I started laying out the structure of the base and trying to test the lamp. I spent sometime just thinking how the base would be formatted because the joinery will be a little weird. The joinery will overlap less so I want to make the joinery deeper so it is more secure.

Fri, Sept 26 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-26
I simplified the stable and birds. I still have to add a cow into the stable door. The birds took a long time to simplify, as there was a long of unconnected shapes. I also trimmed the pictures to the border and formated it. I am around halfway done now.

Wed, Sept 24 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-24
I realized that my design is not similar to my old sketch, so I wanna change some things. I changed the lion, and learned how to divide sections so that the drawing can continue onto the next panel. I put the paws of the lion onto the next panel. I tried to manually create the lion’s position but it was really complicated and the art style of different generations didn’t match.

Wed, Sept 24 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-24
I simplified the generation of the lion, boar, and deer. I also started formatting them onto the panels. Hopefully, they are simplified enough so that they can be etched. I am now 1/3 of the way through the designs alone. I have not yet combined the border with the designs though, but it should be really easy.

Mon, Sept 22 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-22
I finished the hydra design and moved it to the bottom. I also started generating some images for my other ideas. As you can see form the Generated Variations, I generated a lot of images. I will refine and simplify these images later on. I also finished generating the border, and I applied it to all the panels. I combined all of the hydra layers into one layer and just put them as sublayers.

Mon, Sept 22 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-22
I think I am pretty much finished with the top part, just a little more touching up and it will be ready. I also generated a border and altered it a little more to fit my design. I manually drew in the body of the hydra, and I think I will try to add legs later so it fits more seamlessly into the design. I tried to create a foreground and background with the dragon heads because there wasn’t enough space to fit in a lot of heads. Canonically though, the hydra that Hercules fought had nine heads, so I am still short 2.

Week 2
Fri, Sept 19 CW – Image and description of completed homework. – CWDueDate 2025-9-19
I finished laying out my wood in Fusion, I realized that I accidentally read the dimensions as feet instead of inches. I created a new project for it and imported the sketch into adobe illustrator. I am starting my design, but when I generated the images, none of them were even remotely close to my concept sketch. I decided to manually create my sketch by adding together a bunch of AI generations instead, but it will take a lot longer.

Fri, Sept 19 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-19
I have formatted my layout for the sides of the luminary but for some reason, the dimensions don’t seem right for some reason. When I created the joinery, it seems too small so it doesn’t look right in relation to the rest of the layout. I designed my border for my sides and made the negative space dark. I also mapped out the negative space for my sketch so I get a better idea of how the light is going to seep out of the lamp. I cannot do much more for homework until I finish laying out the wood in Fusion.

Wed, Sept 17 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-17
I have decided to do the six sided lamp instead of the dodecahedron. I imported the image from adobe illustrator to Fusion so that I can change the dimensions of the sides so that six can fit. I have confirmed my idea and I will start working on designing my project in illustrator after I have laid out all the sides in Fusion.

Wed, Sept 17 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-17
I have chosen the theme of greek mythology, specifically the 12 labors of Hercules. This is because I have been reading greek mythology ever since I was young, and it was one of my fascinations. The 12 labors of Hercules was one of my favorite tales and it represents the trait of courage, which I believe is very admirable and something I would like to become more of in the future. The way he pushes though all the “impossible” labors while everyone doubts him definitely resonates with me, and this tale represents my childhood and the future I want to achieve. Obviously, I will be putting the 12 labors across all the tiles. I tried to make a 12 sided polygon as my lamp, but then I realized I need the top and bottom open, so I made a 14 sided polygon as well. After I made it, I wasn’t sure how I would arrange the joinery so I am at an impasse. I would also settle for a six sided lamp, and I think the joinery for that would be less difficult, but still trickier than the 4 sided one. I have sketched out the 12 labors, and I want to make the border a greek design so that it connects all the sides together. At the bottom are my visual references for my sketches.

Week 1
Fri, Sept 12 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-12
I finished the design of the test project and cut it out in the laser printing. It was still a little too detailed but it’s okay since it printed out anyways. I started trying to map out my idea to see if it would work but I’m not too sure how I would make the joinery. I’m still trying to see if I can figure out a different design for the lamp so I haven’t decided on a theme yet. I do have a lot of the ideas listed out on the paper though.

Fri, Sept 12 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-9-12
I did a lot of brainstorming for the luminary project and I came up with a few ideas. I don’t know if I can do a different shape, but if I can that would be cool. I want to try and fit in 12 sides if possible, so maybe a six sided lamp would also work? I have some 4 sided ideas if that doesn’t work though. For example, a four sided volleyball luminary that has hitting, receiving, serving, and setting on the sides. I haven’t really chosen my theme yet though.

Wed, Sept 10 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-9-10
Created line work for previous drawing and simplified the line work. Also converted previous drawing to grayscale. Create another artboard with an even more complicated drawing (willow tree) and started on the line work. The 2nd artboard I made is ready to cut if I wanted to.

Wed, Sept 10 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-10
Created another artboard with new AI generated image. Outlined new artwork and edited the generated image to better fit the frame and the project. Basically just practice of what happened during class time.

Mon, Sept 8 CW – Image and description of completed homework- CWDueDate 2025-9-8
Followed along in class with Mr. Brodie’s explanations. Learned the difference between rastor and vector etching, and which situation fits them. Used AI generated images to create design. Also reviewed how to use the pen tool and used it to outline the negative space. Made the outline a brighter color so that it the parts that I am going to cut out stand out. Organized tool bar.
