Final luminary exam project

HW due 5/26 – Finished the third side of my luminary design and extruded it.

CW 5/23 – Worked on my third side of the luminary in fusion 360 and almost finished it. Am missing one centered square at the bottom, then all I have to do is extrude.

HW due 5/23 – finished and extruded my first two sides of my luminary design in fusion 360.

CW 5/22 – Repaired and finished gluing my desktop organizer and continued working on my fusion360 version of luminary design.

HW due 5/22 – Finished the second side of my luminary in Fusion 360 and extruded it.

CW 5/19 – Had to leave the class a few minutes early for my track meet but finished gluing my desk organizer dividers on first.

CW 5/16 – Glued a few more pieces to my desktop organizer and also began the second side of my luminary design on Fusion 360.

CW 5/15 – Began gluing together my desk organizer. I originally had issues because I tried using tape as the organizer dried, but Mr. Brodie showed me the large rubber bands that I could use which helped a lot.

CW 5/9 – Made lots of lines on my luminary design today in Fusion 360. At first, I did all the lines distanced incorrectly, so then I had to undo and re-do them. I think I did them correctly this time.

HW due 5/7 – I wasn’t sure how to do multiple things on Fusion360 to create my luminary. For homework, I began working on Fusion360 but had too many questions. Here are a couple that I will ask about in class: 1.) How do I center a diagonal rectangle to the inside edge of another rectangle? 2.) How should I make a centered square between two horizontal lines? For hw, because I made little progress on Fusion360, I added more detail to my paper sketches. I clarified which sections would take up negative or positive space.

CW 5/3 – Began working on my luminary in Fusion 360. Also wrote down some dimensions on my sketch paper.

HW due 5/3 – Finished my sketches for the luminary. I like the way they are, but will ask around in class tomorrow for constructive criticism and make the necessary adjustments.

CW 5/2 – Still waiting for my turn to print. Worked on my final sketches for the luminary. I am going for a symmetrical style with many lines. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright.

HW due 5/2 – Came up with some more original sketches. The top two could definitely use some more work, but I do like the style of the bottom two.

CW 5/1 – Worked out some better sketches. Inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright and the luminary examples in class.

HW due 5/1 – Sketched out some ideas I had for the luminary after looking at Frank Lloyd Wright’s work. Made two symmetrical and two asymmetrical.

CW 4/29 – We talked some about the new project we are starting and came up with some ideas for our luminary. I waited but there was no time to print out my pieces.

CW 4/25 – Finished projecting my pieces. Imported them to Rhino 3D. Organized them onto the 15×15 squares. Exported that file and sent it to be printed.

CW 4/21 – Projected most of my parts during class in order to send them to rhino 3d.

CW 4/19 – Had to redownload Rhino 3D. Took up most of my class time. I also went back to rewatch the video on how to import files and am working on uploading my work to Rhino 3D.

CW 4/18 – Still recovering from when we all found out our material thicknesses were wrong. I also found out I did my drawers completely wrong, and am also recovering from that. Made Sofia’s name on the back of the organizer as well and extruded that.

CW 4/17 – Completed my classroom performance form and then worked on my virtual drawers for my organizer.

CW 4/14 – Wasted half of class trying to get Dall-E to work but then ended up just deciding to do lettering on the back instead. I think I will do the lettering as homework. I also started in on the drawers today.
HW due April 14 – Cleaned up some measurements which got messed up during class on the top left section.

Classwork April 11 – Worked on the top section of my organizer in class today. Began thinking about what designs I will put on and how they will be executed.

Homework due April 11 – Worked out additional connector issues after re-doing the sides during class.

Classwork April 10- Remade my sides so the dimensions were correct.

Homework April 10 – Brought my cardboard model back to dorm to see how it looked in place in my friend’s room. It worked well and I plan on placing the writing on the back. I also adjusted a few things on my virtual model, and tried to figure out drawers, but then decided I should wait until class.

Homework April 4 – The other day, my friend had a few suggestions for my design. She suggested I add smaller compartments, which you can see I added in the top left section. I also made the dividers shorter, which she also liked. As well, she suggested I adjust the dimensions of the drawers to make the bottom drawer larger than the top. I did so, and also divided the top drawer into two halves, which she also wanted. She liked the flat section on the top right so I kept that the same. She also liked the ride on the top part, so I made it slightly taller.
Classwork April 4 – I began the class re-taping my organizer, which had fallen apart some when I brought it to and from dorm. Then, I finished the class by adding more dividers and joining together all of my components. I also incorporated some of the feedback my friend had given me.

HW due April 4 – Could not work on my virtual model since something was wrong with my Fusion360. I did, however, consult my friend again since I brought my rough model back to the dorm today. She cannot wait for the project to be finished!

Classwork April 3 – Fixed up my rough draft model during class today, adding some extra compartments and cleaning up the taped sides.

Homework due April 3 – My friend who I am making this for suggested additional smaller compartments on the top left. As well, she would like the compartments on the top left (which are already there) to be slightly shorter. She likes the flat section on the top right. The drawers are a good size but will be made slightly taller when I shorten the top section. She also suggested splitting the top drawer into two separate ones. I should be able to incorporate all of her suggestions into my final design. I think I will also surprise her with a design or lettering on the side of her new organizer.
Classwork April 1 – Put together the rough draft model of my organizer and also showed my discovery day student around the class. The model contains three sides, a bottom, and two other levels. The levels separate the organizer into three parts, two of which will become drawers. The top section will feature a flat half for larger containers, and many compartments to hold smaller items on the other half.

Classwork March 31 – Fixed my virtual model up some, then began cutting it out in cardboard to create my “rough draft” version of the organizer.

HW due March 31 – Began creating my organizer using rough measurements to see how everything will work out.

March 28 Classwork – Wrote out most measurements and began the virtual model.

March 27 Classwork
These are my concept sketches for the organizer I will be making for my friend. Tonight, I will ask her which one she likes the most and what she likes about each of them. I will use that information to then come up with a prototype.

My friend needs a cosmetic organizer large enough to fit all of the beauty items she keeps on her dresser while still keeping them very organized. The issue right now is that she has so many small beauty items that they have become very disorganized and are kept in multiple different containers. It looks messy and is sometimes difficult to find items, like her favorite lip glosses (oh no!). She needs a large organizer with many compartments of all sizes. She also mentioned she liked the one I had on my dresser, so I can use my own for inspo.
March 27 Homework
- What sort of items do you like to keep on top of your dresser? makeup.
- Could you describe to me your ideal beauty organizer? brush holder, flat area for powders, little boxes to hold taller makeup.
- Which of those qualities are most important to you? flatter areas for makeup.
- Do you have a preference for what shape you would like your organizer to be? Ex: taller, wider, rounder, etc. rectangular, wider rather than longer
- How would you like your organizer to be styled? Color, designs, inscriptions, etc. Inscription of name
- Would you rather have small compartments to hold each individual item, or larger compartments to hold multiple? Somewhere in between? somewhere in between.
- If a secret compartment were involved, what would you like to keep in it? glossier lip balms
- Are there any other special features you wish to have? If so, what are they? drawers would be nice!

March 2, 2023 – Final project pencil box challenge. I used the knowledge learned from the first pencil box to replicate the joint edges. I got the rounded top design from a similar pencil box I have back home. I wanted a longer, smaller box at the bottom to hold items such as erasers, glue sticks, or paper clips. After viewing the designs from class, I think I will change my design up a little bit and may add my name or designs like Toby did.

February 24, 2023 – I finished my box since the first time I did not join all of the parts correctly. Then, I put finishing touches on my phone stand.

February 21, 2023 – I fixed up the middle divider, copied it, and added them both in.

Classwork 2/20 – Joined the sides and bottom together. Was going to add the middle divider in too but it didn’t fit right so I am working on fixing it.

Classwork/homework 2/14 – Finished the individual parts for my pencil box and started assembling them together.

Classwork/homework 2/13 – worked on the side of the pencil box as well as worked on my lamp.

Pencil box project classwork – began work on the pencil box. I created the bottom and started working on the inside divider.

Hand-drawn orthographic – measurements for the phone. Forgot to submit it earlier so I am adding it to the blog now.

Classwork 2/3/23 – Watched videos on hinge joint and am learning to make it.

Tues, Jan 31 – Worked on the back of the phone stand. Beginning to work on the joint.

Mon, Jan 9 Classwork – hand drawn orthographic. I drew out a few ideas for phone stands I may use.
