For the final, Mr. Brodie asked to show a section view of my lamp. This shows the way the metal rod would thread through the middle along with the way the wire would go through.

Mon, Nov 17 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-18
For homework, I finished my lamp and rendered it in fusion. Then I used Qwen AI to create the image below using the following prompt which I generated using ChatGPT: “Keep the lamp exactly as in the input image. Do not change its shape, proportions, or colors. The lamp is 8 inches tall, so scale the environment accordingly. Place the lamp on a wooden desk and add a few books and a cup of coffee on the desk beside it. Make the scene clean, warm, and realistic, and match the perspective so the desk and objects appear naturally behind and beneath the lamp.”

I also finished putting together my luminary and I think there are the two best panels.

In class, I finished painting my last panel, and I was looking for inspiration for what to do for my lamp. I used an AI program to generate some images, and the one below looks like something I could do, but obviously will change.

Wed, Nov 12 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-12

I made this race track that I will either put on the inside or the outside of my lamp. I haven’t been doing the most though, so I will be sure to make way more progress next time.
Week 9
Fri, Nov 7 CW – image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-11-7
In class, I painted my panels. It got better as I progressed, as my third panel looks the best. However, for the last panel I messed up and forgot to put tape around the last one so my painting got messed up. I’ll go to Sunday consult and recut my last panel and paint it.

Fri, Nov 7 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-7

For homework, I went into robotics to spray something on my panels so I can paint in class tomorrow. Also, I scaled down my entire model to better fit the size of the lightbulb.

Wed, Nov 5 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-11-5
In class, I cut my panels with the new etching, and it turned out like this, which I think is pretty good! I just need to paint my panels and attach the paper on the background.

Wed, Nov 5 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-5

For homework, I came during robotics to do some test prints of my new etching, and they were pretty successful. Then, the next day in consult, I came in and cut my first panel.

Mon, Nov 3 CW – image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-11-3
In class, I was making notches on all the tops of the sides of my lamp design so I could fit panels onto that spot. However, after doing that, I realized that my lamp is too large, so I started drawing my full-scale sketch. For homework, I’m planning to probably restart my CAD model so I know exactly what to draw for my full-scale sketch.

Mon, Nov 3 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-11-3

I revised the panel design and changed the image so that the figure at the bottom has etching. In addition, I continued working on my lamp project, finishing the walls. I took me a while because I had to continue messing with measurements and making sure it’s proportional.

Week 8
Thur, Oct 30 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-10-30

I worked on getting raster images into my luminary for etching, as well as planning what I want to do for the rest of the luminary. At some point, I have to do test prints, but people were using the printer today so I couldn’t.
Thur, Oct 30 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-30
Over the weekend, I wanted to get way more done, but I was struggled for hours with adding etching to the luminary, so I decided to instead work on my lamp, and I made progress toward the lamp model.

Week 7
Fri, Oct 24 CW – image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-10-24
Late blog post because WordPress wasn’t working for some reason during class. In class, I got my lamp design approved by Mr. Brodie, and he said to come up with some concept sketches for the format of the lamp. Below are the four I came up with, and I am still trying to decide which one I like best and which one I think I can do the most with. Currently, I am leaning towards the first and the third one, because those accentuate the light that will probably be in the middle as well as being visually appealing from all sides.

Fri, Oct 24 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-24

For homework, I spent time coming up with my lamp design, and I think I have come up with a solid one. I think the top two layers should spin because it represents the Rubik’s Cube design I’m trying to go for. I still need to figure out the elevation part, but I will figure it out as I go. In class, I am planning to do the rest of my concept sketches so I can CAD the model over the weekened.
Wed, Oct 22 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-10-22
In class, I came up with a problem statement, and I will make concept sketches for homework. As I have much more time on parent’s weekend, I plan on finishing my luminary on illustrator as well as doing as much of my lamp design as possible.
Problem Statement: I want to make a decorative desk lamp that embodies my interests while both being a nice decorative touch to my desk setup or a light that could provide ambient lighting to a darker room. As a result, I don’t want to make it too bright, but I still need it to be bright enough so that it can noticeably “glow.”
Wed, Oct 22 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-22

As I was looking for inspiration for my lamp project, I missed the most obvious one. I have loved Rubik’s Cubes for so long, but I never thought of turning it into a lamp. My idea was that I would make the bottom two layers more negligible and have the top layer slightly rotated with more detail. On the side, I could maybe even use some luminary panels depicting fencing to bring it all together. I could also add things so my other passions and etc.
Mon, Oct 20 CW – image and description of completed classwork- CWDueDate 2025-10-20
Left class because I was sick.
Mon, Oct 20 HW – image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-20
I wasn’t able to add stuff to the luminary, as I was finding all the images I used for the design in the first place. So, I started thinking of some ideas for the lamp project. Originally, I was going to do a race track theme with multiple layers in more of a rectangular lamp, but I was am also considering other ideas like making a sphere, putting the light inside, and using rings to block out certain portions to make a cool shape on the wall. The first one would probably look better, but the lighting wouldn’t look that good, while the second one would be the other way around. I am still thinking and I will continue to work on it in class tomorrow.
Week 6
Thur, Oct 16 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-10-16
I put my luminary light holder on the printer, and was doing test paints, but Mr. Brodie told me I need to add etching, so I’m going to do that this weekend.

Thur, Oct 16 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-16

For homework, I modeled the lightbulb using the dimensions sent in the email. I’ve been thinking about what to do for the lamp project but haven’t drawn anything yet. I was going to do a race car with a light in it, but I’m not 100% sure yet.
Tues, Oct 14 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-14
In class, I cut out my last panel and spray painted them with shellack to get them ready to cut. In addition, I finished the 3D design of my light holder and will 3D print it next class.

Tues, Oct 14 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-10-14

I finished revising my third panel so I think it is completely ready to print, which I will do during class. Also, I know we have to make a light holder, but I wasn’t sure where to find the dimensions or anything so I just made an outline that I will revise to fit the light. In class, I hope to finish cutting and painting the panels, leaving them to dry. That will allow me to assemble the luminary next class and fully focus on the lamp project.

Week 5
Fri, Oct 10 CW – Image and description of completed homework – CWDueDate 2025-10-10

In class, I cut out three of my panels – the first, second, and fourth. The third one still needs a little bit of work, so for homework, I’ll finish that and start working on the lamp project.
Fri, Oct 10 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-10

For homework, I finished everything I need to do in illustrator for the luminary project. Next class, I will cut as many of the panels as possible.
Wed, Oct 8 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-10-8

I worked on refining my illustrator drawings to make sure it was ready to cut. I came during consult and worked on that until Max was done, but I still was not able to successfully cut out the first panel, as I forgot to delete one of the borders. The border was being used as a negative space tracing line, so on the left is my failed first attempt.

Wed, Oct 8 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-8

I the negative space for the third panel. While it doesn’t look like I did a whole lot, I was struggling for quite a while getting the layers right and deciding exactly where the limits of my negative space is going to be.
Mon, Oct 6 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-10-6
Wasn’t in class.
Mon, Oct 6 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-6

I didn’t like the way my clouds and sun looked, so I redid them to look a lot cleaner. In addition, I continued to work on the negative space tracing of my panels. I am still trying to figure out exactly where the negative space for panel three is going to be.
Week 4
Fri, Oct 3 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-10-3

I continued to work on the negative space tracing, where I finished my second panel. I also did some fine tuning things to make it look better overall, especially by deleting overlapping parts. I forgot to post the test panels I made on the blog page, so I’m doing that now.

Fri, Oct 3 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-10-3

I continued to work on my panels, and as I finished removing all of the extra cloud last class, I just continued all the vector thru cuts and I finished the first panel.
Tues, Sept 30 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-9-30

I spent a lot of time removing all of the clouds, which actually took like 45 minutes. In addition, I will start adding the extra lines for the thru cuts and the line details.
Tues, Sept 30 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-30

For homework, I finished the panels of my luminary project, so in class, I need to trace out my negative space and line work, which will allow me to start cutting.
Week 3
Fri, Sept 26 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-9-26

In class, I traced an image of someone with a medal of a podium. In addition, I need to retrace an image of someone celebrating, which took up a lot of time. While it doesn’t look like I made a whole lot of progress on my overall page, I spent a lot of time editing things and making them look better.
Fri, Sept 26 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-26

For homework, I traced the image of two fencers and the image of someone celebrating, then added them into the illustrator drawing. I think I am almost done and should be able to finish by the beginning of next week.

Wed, Sept 24 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-9-24

In class, I worked on finding images to use for the people on my sketch. I found two great images and the one on the left is the trace for it, and the bottom is the image I will use for the fencers in the image.

Wed, Sept 24 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-24

For homework, I almost finished the line art, with the only things I need to add being some names and numbers on the scoreboard. I now need to add the fencers themselves in all the positions.
Mon, Sept 22 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-9-22

In class, I continued to work on my illustrator, finishing the clouds depicting the mood at the top, as well as adding the sprinter, and adding fencing strips.
Mon, Sept 22 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-22

I unfortunately wasn’t able to get that much done, because I was struggling through figuring out how to remove the background on the cloud. I do think I will be able to make a lot more progress in the coming days, as I grow more comfortable with Illustrator.
Week 2
Fri, Sept 19 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-9-19
During class, I worked on my sketches for the four panels on the luminary. While I got inspiration from my previous drawings, I thought of new ideas that I thought would work even better. The top of the luminary while be dark clouds that gradually get brighter to depict mood, and the top side of the luminary will be the Stanford logo, which is the college the person I am gifting this to is committed to.

Fri, Sept 19 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-19

For homework, I drew a second side of a thumbnail sketch, which depicts me (or someone else) on the final strip of a national championship. I want this scene to blend in to the top where I put the sun, with a blue sky in the background. I decided that I wanted the last one to depict losing and heartbreak, while this one depicts victory, which I think will demonstrate a great change in emotion. Since I already posted my last sketch, I won’t revise it, but I might create another one that depicts a stormy atmosphere. Below is kind of what I want to show.

Wed, Sept 17 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-9-17

In class, I realized I misunderstood the original instructions and I had to make the entire thing themed around one topic instead of multiple, so I decided to go with fencing, as I think it will be able to convey emotions better while also being able to come up with better designs. This is my first concept drawing for two of the sides.
Wed, Sept 17 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-17

To the left are my paragraphs for theme. Below are some basic concept drawings, with the second one being AI generated. Nothing is set in stone yet but I think this will work.

Week 1
Fri, Sept 12 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-9-12

Today was a very brainstorming heavy day, as I finished with the window frame project. The left picture was just my scribbling down random ideas I came up with, the two being a race car track and the other being a Rubik’s Cube. The bottom is the concept sketch I made for the race car track, but I think I am going to do that for the lamp project instead, as it will fit the dimensions better. I need to still come up with theming for the cube, and will hopefully start working in illustrator next class.

Fri, Sept 12 HW – Image and description of completed homework- HWDueDate 2025-9-12

I went to GCAD and worked on laser cutting my frame. I finished doing line details for the sun, and also added line details for the car, which I think looks pretty good now. The picture at the bottom was my first attempt at laser cutting the design, where I messed up the power on the laser cutter which led to the line details on the sun looking too deep. My next attempt, a text appeared for whatever reason on my adobe illustrator, which led to the rectangle cut on that image. On my third attempt, I successfully cut out my frame.

Wed, Sept 10 CW – Image and description of completed classwork – CWDueDate 2025-9-10

I finished up the negative space line tracing on the left and set it to 0.0001. In addition, on the bottom, I work on some line details for the sun in my image. I should be ready to cut in consult tomorrow.

Wed, Sept 10 HW – Image and description of completed homework – HWDueDate 2025-9-10

For homework, I did the negative space tracing around the sun, race-car, and f1 logo. I think this is all I have to do, but I will check with Mr. Brodie in the next class period to make sure it it good.
Mon, Sept 8 CW – Image and description of completed classwork- CWDueDate 2025-9-8

We started working on our vector and bitmap artwork and I decided to go with a race car design with the sun behind it and the F1 logo at the bottom. For homework, trace the negative spacing.
