FINAL Luminary Assembly:

As pictured below, my final luminary is assembled. Today (Thursday, 6/1/23), I will present my designs to the class.

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Homework and Classwork for Thursday 5/25/23:

I have finished my luminary designs on fusion! They are pictured below. As you can see, I have created the common middle section between all 4 panels; my inspiration for this was a theme of a strong vault-like structure. For the side with the arrows, I wanted it to be a “guiding panel”, almost to direct the eyes to the circles placed through through the middle of the top and bottom, in varying sizes. For the panel with the “shattered” effect, it was meant to almost look as if the “vault” had been broken into, an those were the remnants of the walls. The geometry of the lines on the top and the bottom is very similar, with subtle differences hidden throughought!

Classwork and Homework for Monday 5/22/23 – Wednesday 5/24/23:

For these past three days, I have completely devoted my efforts to completing my luminary design on Fusion. As pictured below, I have developed a finalized idea: the middle section, of each luminary section will share the identical complex pattern. However, the tops and bottoms will be drastically unique to each other, drawing the eye to these shapes, and this will enable me to present an interesting image to the brain.

The common middle sections are pictured below:

Classwork for Wednesday and Thursday 5/(17-18)/23:

Desktop Organizer completed! Minor sanding work to be done later (EDIT: NOW COMPLETED) but fully assembled, glued, and completed other than that!

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Homework and Classwork for Monday 5/14/23:

I continued my work on the wood luminary design, and should have a final design finished by Wednesday (I will use Monday to finish gluing my organizer).

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Classwork for Thursday 5/11/23:

Desktop organizer physical gluing started, and I finished the drawer aspect of the organizer. Next is just the frame of it, then it will be completely glued and completed!

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Classwork for Monday 5/8/23:

The wood desktop organizer has been fully printed as of the end of class today, and all parts are ready to be assembled/glued together.

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Homework and Classwork for Thursday 5/4/23:

I developed my “rocket to space” design more, and have it made it much more “luminary-like”. I will continue to develop the aesthetics and design. Additionally, I am going to make it an opposite-side identical design, so the second unique design will be based off an American flag.

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Homework and Classwork for Monday 5/1/23:

I began my luminary sketches and did as much as a I could during a super busy weekend for me. Since my organizer is almost fully finished, I will use this class period to continue my sketch progress.

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Classwork for Thursday 4/27/23:

Desktop organizer has been fully fabricated (except for one side of drawer, which I will laser cut on next week)!

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Classwork for 4/15/23 and 4/20/23: Waiting!

I am just waiting in class for Mr. Brodie to cut out my sheets, then I can begin laser-cutting. As pictured below, I have sent him all of my completed Rhino files.

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Classwork for Thursday 4/13/23: Finalized Rhino Images (already sent to Mr. Brodie):

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Homework for 4/13/23: Completed Organizer Design!

*Note to Mr. Brodie: I’m having a few issues with the back wall of the design (specifically not being able to extrude supports into it), as well as some issues with the drawer underneath. I will discuss this with you in class on 4/13 (Thursday). Other than that, my design is good to go!

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Classwork for 4/10/23: Finished Extrusion of Shelf

I completed the extrusion of the planar shelf.

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Homework for Monday 4/10/23: Began Extrusion of Planar Shelf

I continued work on my shelf above the cabinet, as it will be the main shelf storing notebooks, etc.

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Homework and Classwork for 4/6/23: Continued Fusion Work

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Homework for 4/5/23: Spoke with Louis about Final Design

Louis loves the design, as well as the size. He showed me the area on his desk where he would like it to go (it fits perfectly), and he wanted very few changes. Overall, Louis was extremely happy about all aspects of the build, as he told me, and he said he can’t wait to use the final design, with the actual shelves and drawer!

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Classwork for 3/30/23: Began Working on Cardboard Prototype

I began my work on my cardboard prototype of the organizer (is the large curved cardboard prototype in GCAD classroom).

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Homework for 3/30/23: Began Work on Fusion Organizer

I began the initial creation of some of my major components, including both sides and the base plate.

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Classwork for 3/29/23: Chose Final Design, Began Finalizing Dimensions

I began creating my final sketches of the Desktop Organizer Dimensions.

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Homework for 3/29/23: 6 Concept Sketches/Images

Prompt Used for AI:

Generate 6 unique concept images. Each image should be 8k, photorealistic, highest quality. For each image, create a unique desktop organizer design using these constraints and requirements: the organizer should be, at most, within 14 inches by 14 inches by 14 inches. It should prioritize the organization of notebooks, and it should be both wider and longer than it is tall. Each unique design should be smooth, with curves incorporated, and there should be at least 1 drawer in the organizer. Most importantly, it should be realistic, efficient, functional, and look amazing.

Classwork for 3/27/23: Statement of Problem Paragraph:

Louis, while already a fairly organized person, could always use some level of improvement. The problem is that he still has certain things in his room and on his desk that are disorganized, and the goal of this organizer is to help solve this issue as well as maintain his organization.

Specifically, Louis faces the issue of notebook organization, and he wants a solution that incorporates the majority of its storage horizontally, rather than vertically (wider>taller). The project parameters dictate a 14in^3 maximum size, so these are the dimensional constraints I will be working with. Louis, would also like a smooth, simple design with multiple curves incorporated, as well as at least 1 drawer; overall, he would like a functional, smooth looking and efficient desktop organizer. All of these factors form my design constraints and requirements, and are the goals I will be working to accomplish when creating Louis’s desktop organizer.

Homework for Monday 3/27/23: Desktop Organizer Interview Answers:

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Classwork for 3/23/23: Desktop Organizer Interview Questions:

  1. How much potential space could you reserve for this organizer?
  2. Since I am constrained to 14in^3, would you rather have me incorporate more storage vertically or horizontally?
  3. What items could you see yourself putting in this organizer?
  4. Would you rather have more open storage (i.e. shelves) or drawers in the organizer?
  5. Would you prefer more straight edges and corners or curves incorporated?
  6. Would you prefer a more complex design (visually), or a simpler design, with more emphasis on function.
  7. Would you prefer a drawer, secret compartment, or both incorporated?
  8. Would you like a rougher, more natural, wood design, or a sanded, smoother wood design?
