Today, I learned how to use a CNC machine and helped fabricate the bases of the LED lamps. I also used a drill press in this process, and finally got to take home my desktop organizer.
Fri, Feb 20 HW
Nothing – Finished Modeling
Wed, Feb 18 CW

Today, I added the boltholes and LED strip to the LED lamp, and glued my desktop organizer together.
Wed, Feb 18HW
Nothing! Ready to print!!!
Mon, Feb 16 CW

Today, I finished everything I needed to for the raster, vector, and vector thru cuts.
Mon, Feb 16 HW

Today, I continued to draw things in for the raster engraving.
Week 9
Thu, Feb 12 CW

Today I replaced most of my lines for vector engraving with lines made by the pen tool, as these are easier to shape and make smoother curves. I also started adding color in grayscale for the raster engraving,
Thu, Feb 12

Today, I cleaned up some lines. It’s quite unnoticeable, but it will help when I cut it out
Tue, Feb 10 CW

In class, I traced more of the drawings for the vector engraving.
Tue, Feb 10 HW

For homework, I traced more lines for vector engraving.
Week 8
Sat, Feb 7 CW

In class, I imported my sketches into adobe illustrator so that I could trace over them. I decided on going with a sundial for the last panel, and I think it worked out well.
Sat, Feb 7 HW

For Homework, I started to work on designs for the panels. The Idea of an hourglass with stars in the sand was firmly planted from the moment I walked out of class on Thursday, but I didn’t know what else I wanted to do. I decided on the idea of time and stars/celestial bodies, and for each panel, I’m designing something to do with a different measurement of time. The first three are an hourglass, a clock, and a pocket watch, but I haven’t finished the last one. I was thinking I’d do something like a sundial. This was drawn on procreate, which is my preferred drawing program, but once I’m done with the sketches, I’ll move the images into Adobe Illustrator and trace over them again, before adding some shading and marking the areas that will be negative space. I’m really excited to continue working!
Thu, Feb 5 CW

In class, I remodeled the parts of the pencil box to fit the correct dimensions, including the holes for my designs. I exported all the important sketches as DXF files, and downloaded Adobe Illustrator. I then created a new file in Illustrator and put them there so I can later draw out my designs. I also drew some little plants with faces and legs, possibly as inspiration. I don’t know what I’m going to do with this yet, but I’ll either go with something plant themed or something themed around time. Hourglasses are really fun to draw.
Thu, Feb 5 HW

For homework, I started modeling the pencil holder. I created the sketch, and extruded it, creating the first side.
Week 7
Thu, Jan 29 CW

In class, I attached the lower arm and base together on the LED lamp.
Thu, Jan 29 HW
None – Finished with modeling. I’m looking forward to next class!
Tue, Jan 27 CW

Today, I exported all the sketches as DXF files, cut them out with the laser cutter, and assembled it. It’s not glued together yet, but this gives me an idea of what it will look like once it’s fully assembled. I also drew little stars on the tape for flavor.
Tue, Jan 27 HW
Already completed – See Friday, Jan 23
Week 6
Fri, Jan 23 CW

In class, I finished the model and created all the necessary sketches to fabricate it.
Fri, Jan 23 HW
Already completed – see Wed, Jan 21
Wed, Jan 21 CW

In class, I created the front, back, and bottom of the organizer.
Wed, Jan 21 HW

For homework, I spaced the two sides the appropriate distance using the joint command.
Week 5
Sat, Jan 17 CW

In class, I finished the sketch for the desk organizer and extruded it, then copied it to make the other side.
Sat, Jan 17 HW
None.
Thu, Jan 15 CW

In class, I glued the plates to the base verticals and then glued those into the base plate, sanded the rest of the base, and screwed the upper and lower arms together. I also started work on the next project, a desktop organizer.
Thu, Jan 15 HW
None – Finished with modeling.
Tue, Jan 13 CW

In class, I cut out the parts for the base and glued the plates onto the lower arm. I also glued the lower arm together.
Tue, Jan 13 HW

For homework, I modeled the rest of the base.
Week 4
Fri, Jan 9 CW

In class, I moved the base plate and base verticals into place, and connected them with joints. I also glued the the top arm together and glued the magnets on the lower arm.
Fri, Jan 9 HW

For homework, I created the base plate and base verticals. I learned how to use the offset tool to create the notches required in the base plate.
Wed, Jan 7 CW

Today I cut out and sanded the pieces of the lower arm.
Wed, Jan 7 HW
Homework already completed at an earlier date – see Tuesday, Dec 18
Winter Break 12/19/25 – 1/5/26
Week 3
Tues, Dec 18 CW

In class, I finished the holes on the lower horizontal piece and added them to the model.
Thu, Dec 18 HW
None.
Tues, Dec 16 CW

In class, I continued to model the horizontal piece by creating the joinery and starting to create the holes. I also added the magnets to the upper arm sides with epoxy and sanded off most of the burnt residue from laser cutting.
Tue, Dec 16 HW
Homework already completed at an earlier date – see Friday, Dec 12.
Week 2
Fri, Dec 12 CW

In class, I extruded the lower arm sides and created the horizontal piece. I also used the joint command to join several of the pieces together.
Fri, Dec 12 HW

For homework, I created the sketch for the lower arm, and also created the large and small metal discs.
Wed, Dec 10 CW

In class, I learned how to convert our 3D models into files and put them into Rhino3D. I also learned how to use Rhino 3D, and how to send the information to the laser cutter. I then laser cut the components of the upper arm.
Wed, Dec 10 HW

For homework, I created the last piece of the upper arm and use the combine tools to create the joinery .
Mon, Dec 8 CW

Today in class, I learned how to use the circular and rectangular pattern tools to finish the sketch. I then created the 3D component by extruding it from the drawing, and duplicated it to create the other upper arm side. Finally, I used the joint tool to connect the two and set the distance between them.
Mon, Dec 8 HW

For homework, I started to create the sketch for the upper arm of our LED Lamp project. I learned how to use some sketch tools, such as the tangent constraint and trim tools.
Week 1
Fri, Dec 5 CW

Today, I learned how to create a sketch and use several different features in fusion. I created a box, and then applied my new knowledge to add a handle and several holes to the box.
Fri, Dec 5 HW
Wed, Dec 3 CW

Today, I downloaded fusion, and learned how to create a box.
Wed, Dec 3 HW
