Today I had to solve the problem of changing the material thickness from .118 to .125. However, I wasn’t able to change the material thickness by easily just changing the variable value. So I had to go into each sketch and manually change the dimension value for all of the material thickness values. The good part is that Fusion is a parametric model, so when I changed the sketch it also changed the extrusion. So all is well and good now.

Today I was able to make the base plate which was like the main stand for the project. I started by making a new project and in that new project I made a new sketch. Then I made 3 concentric circles then I made two lines and used the trim to start the main hole in the base. Then I extruded the sketch and started to cut out parts of it according to the dimensions. It took a while getting all the cuts correctly but I was able to finish it at the end.

Today I was able to finish the base verticals and plate, then I put them into place using the joint tool to put all the pieces together, I made the plate by using 2 circles and trimming the excess parts out after I used a line tool to create notches, then I created switch holes and wire holes inside the circle so I could fit the wire. I made the verticals by taking a circle and adding two lines beside it as guiding lines to get the dimensions right, then I made two more lines to find the shape, trimmed the excess and got the base shape. Then I used the dimension tool and the line tool and trimmed everything out to get the notches on the bottom.

Today I was able to completely complete the lower arm and cut out holes. I was able to sketch the lower arm by projecting the side and then using the offset tool to set it as the width of the holes. Then I used the coincedent tool to set the sketch into place and I finished the sketch. Then I extruded the sketch to the other lower arm side and extruded it. Then I was able to cut out the parts of the horizontal arm that overlapped using the combine tool. Then I cut out the holes by making another sketch and making multiple circles and used the dimension tool to distance them.

Today I created the base plate for the lamp, I did this by using the circle tool and creating 3 circles of certain lengths and diameters and them extruding them.

Week 2
Fri, Dec 12 CW – Image and description of completed classwork
Today I was able to cut out my pieces from the lazer cutter. At first it seemed for my horizontal upper arm piece, it was exporting the side, but later I realized that I have to project the piece in order for it to export properly.

Today for homework I made the large and small metal disks used for allowing both legs to move smoothly between each other and keeping a constant distance from the joint. I did this by first making 2 new components for each disk, then I used the circle functions, and made 2 concentric circles of varying diameters, and I was able to finish the sketch and make a disk after extruding.

Today in class we learned how to export our files into a DXF file, and then physically transport them into the pc, then how to import the file into the PC. Then we learned how to put our sketches onto the 17.25 x 4 inch piece of plywood, and how to arange the components on the software on the pc. We also learned how to turn on the lazer cutter and how to properly put the wood on the machine. We also learned safety precautions and what to do when it starts firing. After that I began to work on the lower arm, and I was able to finish the sketch. I used similar tools to the ones I used when making the upper arm sketches.
Wed, Dec 10 HW – Image and description of completed homework

Today for homework I made the middle horizontal part of the upper arm. To do this I first sketched out the upper arm by projecting (p) the upper arm sides onto the sketch, then I made a rectangle that matched up with the upper side arms. Then I extruded the sketch to the object to make it 3d. After that we had to cut out the mortises so the horizontal part could fit in with the holes in the upper side arms. To do this I used the combine function, made the horizontal part the target body and the tool body the side arm, I made sure to keep the tool, so we wouldn’t loose the side part, and I cut out the holes on both sides.
Mon, Dec 8 CW – Image and description of completed classwork

Today in class we were able to take the sketch we made over homework and we did 3 big things. we first added holes along the circle which would hold the magnets, we created mortises that would hold in the horizontal piece, and we made it 3d and duplicated it. To do these we used the circular pattern tool to make the holes. For the mortises we used the Concident constraint to bring the middle point (found by holding the shift key) and lined up the rectangles, and used the rectangle pattern tool to created the equally spaced continuous rectangles. Then we duplicated the component and used the joint function to distance both 3d functions equally.

Today, I watched the video that taught me how to build the upper arm’s side of the lamp. To build it, I first took two circles, one as a smooth end, and the other a larger circle to act as a joint. Then I connected those 2 circles with 2 lines. I used the tangent function for the first one to evenly get a horizontal line in between the 2 circles, then another line to connect the smaller circle to the knob. Then I used the trim tool to get rid of the unnecessary parts of the circle making it one large whole.
Week 1
Fri, Dec 5 CW – Image and description of completed classwork

Today I was able to download Fusion 360 and was able to connect to the wordpress classroom and understand the basics. I also was able to design a box on fusion, with foundational skill such as how you have to separate different parts with components, and other fundamental aspects of forming a object or shape.
