Week 9
Fri, Nov 8 CW – image of work completed in class
I cut all the red parts out and was able to glue and cut the blue parts. This blue part of the costume took lots of time as I had to redo several sections and in the end, added an extra layer behind the red layers to have less light come through and put Spiderman in the foreground and the main focus. Next class, I want to finish the box creation and begin the music album project.

I went to consult and was able to glue the papers onto the tried and fourth layers and trim them. In the next class, I want to finish the second layer paper and try to brainstorm for the spiderman layer. I think I should use tracing paper or another thin paper, I also want to do the colors of spiderman justice so I will try to visualize/search for colored tracing types of paper.

Mon, Nov 4 CW – image of work completed in class
I printed all of my layers and have all the parts ready. Now I see that the layers need more depth so I am adding paper layers to the backs of the printed layers for different types (printing, tracing, sketching).

Tue, Oct 22 HW – image of completed homework
I added the frame for each layer and edited each layer to make sure it was conjoined with the frame so all pieces were conjoined. I also seperated each layer, so I can go straight to test printing in class.

Week 6
Fri, Oct 18 CW – image of work completed in class
I worked in illustrator working out an loose pieces or kins in the design. I also attached spider-mans head for more structure. I then redid my buildings for my fourth layer creating 2 detailed buildings. I also fixed my cop car to look more realistic and created my paper layer for the moon and stars. Next class I want to start test prints and wood printings.

Fri, Oct 18 HW – image of completed homework
I fixed the Spiderman design accordingly so any pieces that fell out like the eye were fixed and I also attached it to the bottom as well as adding the positive space on the spider instead of having negative space. This will add more visual appeal to the spider and have a stronger structure. I also added my second building.

Wed, Oct 16 CW – image of work completed in class
In class I finished the building and was able to make it look more realistic. I also fixed the line weight of the Spiderman and was able to get a test print. From the test print I learned to remove some straggler lines and the bottom line that separated Spiderman from the frame.

Week 3
Fri, Sept 27 CW – image of work completed in class
In class, I finally finished cutting my third layer’s pieces with the exacto knife and was able to print out all of my layers without trouble. I also sanded down each piece to get rid of any burn marks on them and to hold the stain better. Next class I am going to use my chosen color stains (colonial maple/ red chestnut) and stain my layers by using the same stains but by adding different saturations/layers of stain the colors will get deeper and darker, adding to my layered effect.

Wed, Sept 25 CW – image of work completed in class
I learned how to sand down my designs and finalized my colors for my wood stain process. I also fixed a problem with my design as in the design labeled design #1, the top layers 2 circles were not connected and therefore would fall apart. So I added connectors between the layers and recolored my project to match my new wood stain colors. I also cut out my third layer and used the exacto knife to cut the some pieces out. Next class I want to finish cutting my third layer with the knife and print out the rest of my layers.

I experimented with wood staining colors trying out most of them. I found 4 colors that I might use for my layers. I want to print next class and pick my wood stain colors.

Mon, Sept 23 HW – image of completed homework
I was able to fix my outline problem and get it ready to be printed. I also picked my wood stain colors. I added a fourth layer in the back to give it more visual appeal and also got rid of some of the center clutter. Next class, I want to pick my wood stain colors in person, finding which ones correlate to the actually paint. I also would like to print.

Week 2
Thur, Sept 19 CW – image of work completed in class
I created a new mandala. I still need to format the outline size and pick colors for my woodstain next class. I have a divot design that I came up with which I think is the coolest part.

Thur, Sept 19 HW – image of completed homework
I finished the video and followed along the steps. However, I also added my own elements of learning and applying the technique from the video. I want to try to cut this and see if the sizing and overlaying are coming out well.

Tue, Sept 17 CW – image of work completed in class
I created a practice quick mandala. I experimented with different line weights and how thin I could go. I also began my layered mandala project and made my swatches, guides, and 3 layers.

Tue,, Sept 17 HW – image of completed homework
The completed mandala from the homework. I learned about the command + d and R + option to rotate and copy something.

Week 1
Sat, Sept 14 CW – image of work completed in class
I was able to add the texture to my design and cut it out in wood. I did this by joining the shapes together and then filling them.

Sat, Sept 14 HW – image of completed homework
I created 2 new simpler designs and used a play on positive/negative space on one. I want to be able to add a texture/pattern to the designs next class.

Thur, Sept 12 CW – image of work completed in class
I conjoined the letters of my project. The focus on the initials is coming out well. The boat project still needs some work as the lines overlap and would get cut up. In the next class, I would like to add an etching to the initial project.

Thur, Sept 12 HW – image of completed homework
I created a design using my initials as the main focus and the rest of my name smaller. I also created a mirrored quadrilateral shape with my full name. I also finished my class idea. I added in the sails and rods on both sides to support the letters and do there aesthetic functions. The patterns on the rod help the letters as well and add to the overall design.

Tues, Sept 10 CW – image of work completed in class
Started my design with my name. I created a curve with my last name and used it for an outline for a boat, and by overlapping the m’s in my names, I was able to use my first name as the pole for the boat. I want to now add 2 sails and a flag.
