Lville Design

Sally L.

*5/22 – I completed my lamp design 3d model and only have to properly connect the wires for the wooden lamp, which I need to work on during class time. So, I won’t be positing new homework update in the blog.

* I forgot to post some in-class works so I added them to the blog site. Also, I worked on the phone stand design additionally, so I’d appreciate it if you can check them and consider them. Thank you

5/20 classwork – wooden lamp: connecting the wires to the led light.

Lamp Design

Completed design:

5/20 home work – extruding the hole at the base so that the cord can come out to the side (also extruded the hole on one side panel)

5/17 class work – the indent where the cord comes out (need to extrude a hole to the side)
Base of the sample lamp
  • I noticed that the base of the sample lamp has a deep enough indent so that the cord of the led bulb can come out to the side (since we want the lamp to stand flat on the surface). Since my lamp design has reference to an illuminator, I need to make this indent on the base that holds the sides of the lamp.
5/16 Homework – making the base for where the led lamp will fit in
5/14 Classwork – cut out the led lamp design and attached the pieces (wood pieces and magnets) together with glue and epoxy
5/13 HW – led lamp design, completed side 4 (flower petals) and attached all the sides together using joint and combine command
5/13 Class work – led lamp design, side 2 – complete, side 3
  • Side 3 is the same as side 1, and I kept the design of the leaf to give a sense of unity in the design.
  • I used joint command to join the sides together
5/12 HW – led lamp design, side 2
  • I projected the side on the edge of the first side so that this side can go on the edge of the previous one
5/11 classwork – led lamp design, side 1
5/10 HW – led lamp design, design part 1
  • The lamp works like an illuminator. Rectangular box and each side has different design. The light will radiate through
5/9 HW – led lamp design, design 1
  • Lotus symbolizes many different things in Korean folk drawing depending on what it’s drawn along with. The original folk drawing piece that I earned inspiration from portrays lotus with books. I designed this lamp, imagining the lamp to be placed in a bedroom, a place where I usually study. The light radiating through the lotus design will illuminate the desk and my room, conveying a sense of enlightenment and knowledge.
5/9 HW – led lamp design, design 2,3
5/9 HW – led lamp design, design 1

LED modeling

5/6 – led lamp design, model led light
  • I used canvas to add the orthographic design of the led light and modeled it 2d. Finally, I used revolve function to make it 3D.

Phone case design

phone case design
  • Like the point I mentioned in the previous stage of design, I added various layers of depth to the amplifier. I achieved this using offset of a circle around the main circular hole and extruding them to various depths.
phone case design
  • I created a small semi circular hole on the bottom of the box, on the side closer to the placement of the phone. This hole serves as a charging port so that a person can use the phone stand while charging their phone.
phone case design
  • I extruded the hole so that the amplified sound can leave the box. I am wondering how I can modify and add various layers to the hole like an in-ward cone shape so that the sound can be amplified to its maximum. (example on the left)

4/29 classwork – phone case design
  • a user can vertically place a phone in the box. I noticed that the speakers are located at the bottom of a phone, so naturally, the box will function as a sound amplifier.
  • I need to make a round hole on the front of the box so that the amplified sound can leave the box.

4/26 HW – prototyping
Final phone design – imported image using insert – > decal
HW & Class 4/22 (Day 2) – side fillet (click on the edge to create a round edge), extrude the camera
Class 4/19 (Day 1) – phone buttons, bottom, camera design

HW 4/19 (Day 1) – phone case base
orthographic design of my smartphone

LED Lamp

April 15, 2022 – Class work, Completed the 3d motel!
  • Design techniques: use “As-built joint” tool to attach the parts as a rigid body. Imported the main base to the current design and used joint to combine with the led lamp body.
  • The large metal plate piece was missing.
  • When using cut-combine tool, make sure to click “keep tool”
April 14, 2022 – Home work, Complete the 3d motel. attached the base and used the combine tool (cut).
April 12, 2022 – Class work, Create a base and base verticals to attach to the bottom of the lamp
  • Design strategy: to match the center of the circular base with the center of the bottom of the lower arm, draw two diagonals and mark the center point. Then, use the joint command to put them together
  • * use revolution for joints
  • part a) sketching the main base: I used various sized circles and the trim feature to create the patterns. I first did the top then flipped the base to complete the bottom.
  • part b) I created the top base plate using “project” on the top of the base and extruding it to fill the space.
  • part c) I used the same method in part b to create the bottom base plate.

April 11, 2022 – Home work, Lower Horizontal – Holes and Square Cutouts
  • Design Strategy: Create a construction line along the center to align the holes. Then, use the rectangular pattern tool to create the equally spaced array of holes along the arm.
April 9, 2022 – Class work, Placed the screws and aluminum standoff in the joint
April 9, 2022 – Class work, Downloaded the assets and uploaded to fusion

April 8, 2022 – Home work, Extrude the Lower Horizontal and use Combine Tool to Create Joinery
  • Design strategy: use combine and cut commands to fit the horizontal bar into the array of rectangular holes.

April 8, 2022 – Home work, Assemble lower arm and metal plates with Joint

April 5, 2022 – Home work, Large and small metal plates & lower arm design

*note. Metal plates are needed in order to…

April 4, 2022 – Home work, Lower arm side design

April 1, 2022 – Class work, Upper horizontal joint design

March 29, 2022 – Class work, upper arm design
