Week 10
Tues, 5/21/24 CW – In class I finished my luminary. I really like it and think it exhibits all the things we have learned and more

Tues, 5/21/24 HW – For homework I made a new free design because for some reason my old one deleted. I used circular patterns and think it turned out well.

Mon, 5/20/24 CW – In class, I got out my wooden model and hand sanded it, and then I stained it

Mon, 5/20/24 HW – For homework I started a free project just t experiment for fun.

Week 9
Tues, 5/14/24 CW – In class I printed out my cardboard and wood models. I edited a bit in between, but nothing major.

Tues, 5/14/24 HW – For homework i saved all new sketches to print and made a base a light holder

Mon, 5/13/24 CW – In class I completed and extruded all of my sketches and comvined them. I made some edits to original sketches

Week 8
Fri, 5/10/24 CW – In class I finished my sketch of my final side. I need to extrude it, and I also need to edit my third sketch more so that it is more stable.

Fri, 5/10/24 HW – for homework i began my last side. I think this one is going to take a while since there are complex shapes in them!

Tues, 5/7/24 CW – In class I added a heart to my second side. I also started, completed, and extruded my third side. I am very happy with how things are going!

Tues, 5/7/24 HW – For homework I put my desktop organizer and cardboard desktop organizer in place. I also began my fusion sketch of my third side of my luminary.

Mon, 5/6/24 CW -In class I started, finished, and extruded the second side of my luminary.

Mon, 5/6/24 HW – For homework I completed and extruded my first side of the luminary. I am very happy with it!

Week 7
Fri, 5/3/24 CW – Head of school day
Fri, 5/3/24 HW -Head of school day
Tues, 4/30/24 CW – In class I ended up redoing what I did last night because I realized the star wasn’t centered. Here is the progress I made. It was very tedious work and I used the mirror tool a lot.

Tues, 4/30/24 HW – For homework I began translating my sketches to fusion. This is my progress so far. I also had trouble with downloading the file of the templates, but ended up figuring it out.

Mon, 4/29/24 CW – Today in class I completed my paper sketch. I also made a fusion file and saved it.

Week 6
Fri, 4/26/24 CW – In class I began to translate my sketches into bigger ones

Fri, 4/26/24 HW – For homework I continued with my conceptual sketch. The theme is jewish/israeli. I really like my designs so far.

Tues, 4/23/24 CW – For classwork on Tuesday I continued the sketches and explore conceptional replication. Here is what I made today:

Tues, 4/23/24 HW – For homework due Tuesday, I completed my symmetrical sketches, and made one asymmetrical sketch.
First two shown are symmetrical, the last one with the jewish symbols are asymmetrical.

Week 5
Fri, 4/19/24 CW – In class, I finished my project by adding handles to it. I also began to sketch out the symetrical ideas of my next project.

Fri, 4/19/24 HW – For homework, I continued my flower handle. I am done with it, but fusion is giving me a hard time inserting it to my actual model.

Tues, 4/16/24 CW -Today in class I created a flower handle. I also finished glueing

Tues, 4/16/24 HW – I couldn’t do any homework as I am at the point in my project where I just need to glue.
Mon, 4/15/24 CW – Today In class I began glueing my pieces together and used rubber bands to keep them in place.

Mon, 4/15/24 HW -For homework I came in on Sunday and cute out all my parts in wood and stained all of the wood.

Week 4
Fri, 4/12/24 CW – In class I finished editing my fusion model. When I come in on sunday, I hope to cut it out with wood and stain it.

Fri, 4/12/24 HW – For homework due friday I began editing my fusion sketch to make the paper organizers larger. This is a tedious process as I have to redo some major components of my project, but I am slowly getting a grip and making progress. I can not come to consult tomorrow, but I hope to come in on sunday if I can.

Tues, 4/9/24 CW – Today in class I printed out my prototype. The joints work and it looks good, but I think to make it even better I should make the paper organizer larger for easier access.

Tues, 4/9/24 HW – Today for homework I think I finished my fusion model. I finished the extra compartments, added a divider to one of them, and added covers to both of the that fit into joint and have hold to make string handles out of (after printed out). I am going to go to consult tomorrow to hopefully get a head start in printing as I have a lot of piece to print out(around 26)! I also measured my clients finger width to make sure the paper compartments were not too small. They measured 1/4 of an inch on average, making my .5 inch gaps for paper perfect, and she agreed. Along with this, I asked her what she would be putting in her extra compartments, and she said things like hairties, airpods and chargers. I think the airpods and chargers would go in the two compartments with covers since they are more valuable, and she would put the hairties and chapsticks in the divided open compartment due to easy access.

Mon, 4/8/24 CW – For class on Monday I accomplished my goal of finishing my paper organizer, and I even began my extra compartments. I am very happy with how things are going.

Mon, 4/8/24 HW – For homework due monday, I continued my fusion model. I enclosed the paper organizers and cut many joints out. Along with this, I am almost done with the pencil organizer portion, and my goal is to finish the pencil section next class

Week 3 – Begin the Desktop Organizer project.
Fri, 4/5/24 CW – Today in class I ran into a bit of the issue because I realized that I forgot to add a big part of my sketch. But, I figure it out and am slowly fixing it. It was really tricky but I am hopefully doing the right joints.

Fri, 4/5/24 HW – Today for homework I continued creating my fusion model. I am still starting to figure things out and editing my plan a bit, but hopefully it will all work out. I used the joint tools to connect all of the pieces.

Tues, 4/2/24 CW – Today in class I was extremely productive. I interviewed my person, made my paragraph, created 4 ideas, chose one, made a detailed on paper sketch of it, and then started my sketch on fusion.

Final Sketch (I chose the first design):

4 sketches of ideas:

Answers I got back:
I like to have both pens and pencils available on my desk. While I normally use my laptop, for checking writing purposes and writing cards, I like pens. Once in a while I need a pencil too.
I tend to use electronics more than paper and pencil. I really only have a laptop and phone. I usually have my bills to pay on my desk. My computer. Pens and pencils. And reading glasses.
I use my desktop for working and paying bills mostly, but I also do my makeup occasionally.
The items found lying on my desk are normally papers. Bills, mail etc. I also usually have some sort of flowers on my desk.
The only frustration I have is I would love a place to organize my papers better. I like clean surfaces so I would like it organized better
My current storage compartments do not work. My papers are all spread over my desk. I have two drawers, but they are full
I have a large desk so I have plenty of room for an organizer. I would ideally like it to be in the corner on one of the sides of my desk.
My ideal organizer would have two places for papers. Like bills paid and those I still need to go through. Place for pens. Place for reading glasses, and a few extra organizational components for random things.
Problem statement/paragraph plan:
My client’s main wants include paper organizers. It seems she wants a compartment to organize them into categories, and to combat this, I will make two horizontal areas for paper storage. I plan to stack the storage departments one on top of the other to conserve space. Along with this, I will have a four category pencil holder that can be used to organize her pens, pencils, and makeup utensils for the rare occasion where she does makeup on her desk. I will also have extra storage and organizational areas as she said she would like a few extra compartments just in case she adds anything to her desk area. Aside from the functional part of the organizer, I would like it to blend in with her room well. From previous knowledge, I know she has a simple white room with some wooden accents. With this in mind, I am planning on having a simple organizer that is stained to a natural wood to complement her room. Along with this, she mentioned that she frequently has flowers on her desk. I think to surprise her, I am going to add a flat area where she can put a small bouquet of flowers on top of. I am planning on buying a small bouquet from a grocery store to give it to her with the organizer. In total, this will be a long process, but hopefully it will be rewarding and I can please my client.
Tues, 4/2/24 HW – Today for homework, I began the process of the desk organizer I am making. I have a draft of the questions I am going to ask. To be honest, I did not think it would take that long, but I ended up using the full homework limit as I soon realized the challenges of writing open ended questions without being repetitive. These are my questions:
- Describe your organizational habits in terms of writing utensils.
- Do you tend to use electronics or paper and pencils? Please tell me about the materials that are most commonly found on your desk.
- What do you use your desktop area for? (for example, someone may also use their desk to do hair and makeup)
- What kind of materials do you find to be lying around on your desk with nowhere to put them?
- What are common frustrations you find with your desk and its storage?
- Describe your current desks storage compartments and the way you use everything
- How much room is currently available on your desk and how much room would you be willing to clear for a desk organizer?
- Describe your ideal desk organizer, and any designs or specific compartments you want or need.
Mon, 4/1/24 CW – In class, I completed my organizer tutorial project. I used the tools that I have learned to make the small triangles without a video. I am excited to start the real project!

Week 2
Tues, 3/26/24 CW – In class, I fixed the issue with the front by fully redoing it. I also finished the back and bottom. I also finished the back vertical, and began the large triangle.

Tues, 3/26/24 HW – For homework, I tried to figure out what was wrong with my front side extrusion, and how to fix it. I followed every step in the video, and yet nothing has worked.I have redone it several times, individually drew curves, mirrored it from different sides, and nothing has worked. After over a half an hour of trying to problem solve, I moved on and started the back. I worked on the back up to the part where you needed to copy and paste from the front, since something is obviously off with my front. I am hoping Mr. Brodie can help me figure it out in class tomorrow. I know it looks like I didn’t make much progress, but I have worked above the homework cap of 30 minutes, I just couldn’t figure out the issue.

Mon, 3/25/24 CW – In class I created my front side. I am having issues with the extrusion because one of the curves isn’t being processed by fusion correctly.

Week 1
Fri, 3/22/24 CW – In class I completed my sketch for my lefthand side. I also extruded the left side, made the right side, and extruded the right side.

Fri, 3/22/24 HW – For homework due Friday, I followed along with the videos on the syllabus. I double checked my work I did in class. I also added the curved lines on the bottom using the special line and mirror tools, which was a first. I am on pace according to the syllabus.

Wed, 3/20/24 CW – Today I began my left hand side of my organizer exercise. I was pretty efficient, and think I can keep moving the project forward for homework.
