Household Item Kenneth and Anthony
Originality: The idea Anthony and I originated from a classmate who describes his chores to be very boring. so we wanted to make a fun alternative with my partner’s favorite sport, basketball. Companies like SKLZ have made similar products like the mini hoop. But the reason why this is different from other ones is because we are able to fit this on top of trash cans and laundry bags or purposes for fun too.
When we began this project, we had four ideas. We narrowed it down to the basketball hoop because we felt we would enjoy it the most and we believe our customers would be most attracted to this. We also believe in customization and characterization for our customers too. Therefore: we paint the backboard to the preference of our customers.
Our customers needs was not the phone, not the car or table; but the hoop. They wanted an interesting way to do chores that are very annoying. Jacob Lee, a third former, describes it as a stress reliever. He claims that “making a swish for garbage or laundry releases a small portion of dopamine.”
Because an over door basketball is not original, we wanted to twist it for our own originality. we decided it to be a convertible, so it is multipurpose. To give it a point of view of our customers, we give them the option to customize the backboard to their unlimited creativity.
Description of our papers below: (Ideate– Prototype Mode)
The backboard will be made out of wood. Durable, thick wood. It is 2 feet by 1 foot by 1 inch.
The rim will be made (of a durable model). It is 4 by 6 by 2 by 1/2 inch model.
We want an interwoven net: we preferably would like metal chains but if that source is rare, we would go to our next idea of interwoven shoelaces.
The backboard square, which is like the guideline to where the basketball would be shot, would have the famous Lawrenceville School Seal. It would be an 8 by 11, with one inch marked margins with the colors of red and white.
To stick on a door, we need a door hook. It would start as cardboard but it would need to transition to something more durable like wood or metal. Measurements are shown below on the paper:
The Door Hook weight would be 5 by 2 by 2 inches and a sturdy object like metal.

Check in with Mr. Brodie
As we checked in with Mr. Brodie, his biggest constructive criticism was the originality, and I understood where he was coming from: an overhead hoop is very basic. We wanted to add our own twist, so that it was multipurpose. It now can be over trash cans and laundry.
When we presented our project in front of the class his main points were:
add novelty and make the artwork special, with originality,
We then put our ideas into Rhinoceros, a 3D version of how we wanted our project to come out. The progress has been shown from the far right picture to eventually or final computer sketch, the far left.

Test Prototype Process and Our Results:

Conclusion of prototype: It got the approval of Mr. Brodie and therefore we were able to move forward. With durable material used for the hoop, the hoop should work without any problems.
Problem: Our goal is to have our hoop multipurpose. But the problem is how we can interchange the trash can connector back to a laundry bag. The laundry bag is simple, we can hook it up to the rim. But the trash can is not as flexible as the laundry bag. Therefore, we must find a better alternative

START OF REAL DESIGN
Anthony Gadzi began the 3D design for this

How Will I present this?
0.42 inches for the thickness of the hoop

On Febuary 6, Mr. Brodie suggested that similar to our previous project with the box, we should use the puzzle piece method

through the next two classes, i proportioned it to the size i wanted, but i realized i cannot print it on the 3d printer like this because it has to be a 10 by 10. Got it down in proportion, and eventually i eventually wanted to put in a motto. This was the cross, which is my everything. You can also change it to other symbols and it is very presentable to Lawrenceville. So therefore , i believe it is a jewerly very presentable to other Lawrenceville students.
Overall the process of this project was awesome. I was unable to print it out because our printer was not being accessible. But i did see it online after i made it, and it was very enjoying. This class has been a journey. After being an aqcuantince to Anthony many years as a basketball hoop assistant, I took over the reigns for chains. It is awesome.
