Week 6

In class on 4/24, I had to remodel the drawer for my desktop organizer because the joinery was wrong and it was not made of seperate components. I also organized the sketches in DXF in a folder to print out next class.

For homework due 4/24, I downloaded the sketches of the different parts of the desktop organizer so that I can laser print a prototype of the desktop organizer on cardboard.

During class on 4/22, I completed the joinery for all the pieces in my desktop organizer so that it can be laser printed into a cardboard model next class.

Today in class, 4/17, I completed designs for the sides of my client’s desktop organizer by generating images using Adobe Illustrator AI that looked like Brayden’s dogs, a golden retriever and a black lab.

Today in class I worked on Illustrator to decorate my desktop organizer.

For homework due 4/15, I worked on my drawers and edited its dimensions after measuring some of the items by brother wants to put in there, including his earbuds and his phone bank.

Week 4

Today in class I completed the bottom of the desktop organizer and created all the joinery for it. I also began the drawer for the desktop organizer.

For homework due 4/11, I redesigned the logo on the back of my desktop organizer so that I could extrude it properly and cut it out of the back. Then I began working on the drawers and cut out the joinery.

Today in class I remodeled my design to make it longer and rebuilt the shelves and the back pieces. I also added some decoration and created a sketch of my brother’s rowing team’s logo so that I can cut the sketch out into the back of the desktop organizer.

In class today I completed my four sketches for my desktop organizer and I finalized sketch and began designing it in Fusion.

Problem Statement: Brayden needs a desktop organizer that can help him organize his things, including his school ID, his airpods, his power banks, and the things he uses for homework. Brayden is very passionate about rowing and wants his desktop organizer to match his rowing-themed room. He also wants to include biblical quotes and inspirational David Goggins quotes on the desktop organizer, as well as rowing-inspired images that include oars and boats. He also wants to have pencil and pen cups, a place to put his notebooks and school things, and a secret compartment in the side.

For the desktop organizer project, I interviewed my twin brother, Brayden, about his preferences for the desktop organizer.

How would you use this desktop organizer in your everyday life? Organize supplies used for homework and organize power bank and earbuds

What objects or materials do you need this desktop organizer for?

Power bank, pens, pencils, notebooks.

What designs, games, sports, or hobbies do you feel helps you express yourself?

Rowing. He wants a rowing themed design for his desktop organizer.

What would your ideal desktop organizer look like?

 It would have a container to hold the power bank. He also wants drawers for travel stuff such as my school key card and wants to stop losing his important things, including his earbuds. He also wants it to incorporate a rowing theme to his desktop organizer.

What quotes do you live by?. Jeremiah 23:13 “Lord has plans for you”, Psalm 23, Philippians 4:13,  He also wants to include some motivational quotes from David Goggins.

What drawers, cups, or other design aspects would you like to see incorporated into this design? He wants lots of shelves, cup for pencils, cup of pens, drawer for important things

What colors would you like the design to incorporate? Stained wood with black accents and maybe red and blue.

Is there a theme or certain shapes you would like in the desktop organizer? He wants the desktop organizer to include oars, a rowing boat, or an image of people rowing. 

What room or place do you want this desktop organizer to go in? What is the theme or purpose of this room or area? Brayden’ room, which has a rowing theme.

Week 3

I fixed the revolute joint on my phone holder.

Then, as part of the Empathize step in the Design Thinking process, I created questions to ask my client(probably my mom or dad) about their problems and their needs and preferences for the desktop organizer.

Today, for homework due 4/1, I started assembling my phone holder and I edited the dimensions of my base and the plates for the hinge to fit my phone holder.

Week 2

Today in class I remodeled the horse part of my phone holder using a sketch I found online. I completed the sketches for and extruded the legs, upper body, and lower body of the horse.

For homework due 3/29, I redesigned the dimensions for my base to better fit the angle I want my phone to be at. Then, I continued working on the sketch for the moveable horse-like piece of my phone stand.

Today in class I had to reconfigure my project so that the phone was in a seperate project. Then, I edited the dimensions of and assembled the base and the sides of the hinges of my phone holder and created a plate for the revolving joint. Then, I began editing the dimensions of and creating the sketch for part of my phone holder, which will look like a horse.
