Wednesday 5/22 all student were given an extension on their projects to Thursday 5/30
GCAD print room open 6-8 Tuesday and Wednesday. Alice attempted to cut her design on Wednesday 5/29 but was interrupted by severe thunderstorm warning and students were sent back to their houses. I came in Thursday morning 5/30 print the project for her and discovered the artwork could not be cut on the laser cutter.

Week 10

The above is the concept sketch that I had in mind, and each bird conveys a message for my parents. The last pair of birds are a pair of mandarin ducks, for example, and they represent “eternal love.” The flower in the background are lotuses, and they represent purity and rebirth, in other words trust/hope that my parents will rebound even when they face hard times. The first panel(the top one) is a slightly modified version of my parent’s favorite artwork, and the rest is designed by myself. I tried to copy a similar style to the first panel (ancient korean artwork) and the common theme are plants(trees or flowers) and birds.
Thu, 5/23/24 CW – I printed and stained my drawer with the maple wood shade, as well as staining some other wood pieces. I couldn’t take a photo of my stained drawer and desktop organizer.
Thu, 5/23/24 HW – I continued working on the illustrator model of my luminary, tracing the art work I want to portray.

Week 9
Thu, 5/16/24 CW – I completed printing out my desktop organizer. I finished sanding about half of them, but I have not completed sanding yet. I plan to engrave my design and sand the next class.

Thu, 5/16/24 HW – I arranged all of my components in rhinocerous and printed about half of my components, of the desktop organizer, but I couldn’t take a process image since I was in a rush. (the classroom was open only to 8:00) I also chose the color of stain by asking my customer. Also my customer said that she wouldn’t mind if I painted the universe as long as its “good.”

Wed, 5/15/24 CW – Because I missed class due to an athletic event, I planned out the designs for the drawers. I plan on making a connected image between the drawers, going for the theme of universe. The name selena means moon, and so I really wanted to convey that theme in the desktop organizer. I was thinking of painting the universe instead since I couldn’t find a nice image that would look nice when vectorized. The below would be the “vibe” I would be going for if my customer approves my idea of painting the universe on. (I made a few designs on paper, but my customer didn’t like it so I wouldn’t be using them in my DTO…)

Wed, 5/15/24 HW – Since I couldn’t access the printer, I worked on my luminary project as well as my fusion model. Although this was last minute, my customer requested that I should make a display board for croc jibbitz and below is the idea I have for now. I still need to confirm with my customer to finalize this idea though. She also suggested that I should make an organizer for her earphones, but I’m not sure whether I can execute this since my desktop organizer is pretty full.

Image upload 5/18/24
Mon, 5/13/24 CW – I worked on the drawer portion of my desktop organizer making minor edits and fixing it in place using the joint-rigid tool. I planned to print my desktop organizer out in class, but I couldn’t since other students were printing their items, occupying the printer for the entire class period. I plan to print the wooden pieces out next class or thursday during the lab period. For homework, I plan to bring in a finalized version of the luminary sketch!

Week 8
Thu, 5/9/24 CW – In class, I started executing my own design on the real design paper based on my concept sketch. I also fully prepared myself to print the components in class by making new dxf files including the few edits I made.
CW – Work on fabrication wood desktop organizer

Thu, 5/9/24 HW – Similarly to last time, I could not do much for the desktop organizer since all I have to do is print. As for the luminary, I designed it using a few of my themes and the below are photos of my drafts. (Photo will be added later). I think the korean traditional painting one works best for now.
HW – complete symmetrical and asymmetrical compositions

Mon, 5/6/24 CW – I was not in class this day since I was at the infirmary, but I looked up some more themes at the infirm(수묵화, 초충도,백제금동대향로).
CW – Begin Luminary project – 2 symmetrical and 2 asymmetrical compositions
Absent

Mon, 5/6/24 HW – I could not do much for the desktop organizer project since all I have to is to print out the new pieces. So I just made all my sketches a dxf file since I made some changes to the model. As for the luminary, I began designing my actual product. I have several themes in mind: Celestial, seasons, hope for the flowers, gravity falls, and flowers.

Week 7
Thu, 5/2/24 CW – Because I was sick, I went to the infirmary during class time. However, I started working on my Hope for the Flowers luminary design. I plan to depict a scene from the story on each side.

Thu, 5/2/24 HW – I began drawing out my luminary, but because monet’s paintings are so sophisticated, i am considering changing my theme to my childhood favorite story, Hope for the Flowers.

Mon, 4/29/24 CW – I found reference images for the luminary project.

Started working on luminary 4/29/24
Week 6
Thu, 4/25/24 CW – I began tracing the best person ever t-shirt design because I couldn’t find a good vectorizer to use. The vectorizer I had kept on making errors, changing the shape of the crown and letters. Moreover, I made my final version of the front design and got it approved by my customer.

Thu, 4/25/24 HW – I did some for research for the photos needed for the design. I faced some trouble as my process for part of my designing was deleted, but I remember everything I had designed and placed. I got my left designer design approved by my customer too.

Wed, 4/24/24 CW – I continued to work on the illustrator model. I plan to find another galaxy image because my old image was to hard to engrave.

Wed, 4/24/24 HW – I started my design for engraving the sides and front. I plant to connect the images on the drawer with the front!

Week 5
Thu, 4/18/24 CW – I completed my desktop organizer, and I am continuing to work on my design. Below are images of the desktop organizer prototype in use. We did not do the presentation in class, but I worked on a short PPT slide showing my customer’s need and prototype based on my blog. Moreover, I changed the location of a few of my joints so that the joints do not intervene with the image I hope to engrave.

Thu, 4/18/24 HW – I vectorized a few more images after picking them out from the internet. (The theme for the front is “galaxy” and moon). (The meaning of her name is moon)

Wed, 4/17/24 CW – I installed the applications required and vectorized a few images after picking out a few. I made a design of the sides and front, and had a discussion on what my customer wanted.

Wed, 4/17/24 HW – I spent about 40 minutes working on my Fusion 360 model, fixing minor errors and adding a sliding joint to by middle vertical. I will try printing this piece out tomorrow, and I plan to ad a lid joint as well because I felt as though I wasn’t making effective use of my space.

Mon, 4/15/24 CW – I completed by cardboard prototype and fixed some errors on my fusion 360 model. I forgot to combine and make a hole in my large second floor piece for my small divider, and I fixed my sketch a little so that it is easier for me to work with rhino.

Mon, 4/15/24 HW – I finished the drawer(I am using two of the same drawers). I plan to ask about the specific dimensions for the margins in class. I tried fixing parameter errors, but I could not figure out the error in sketch 1. In class, I will finish my cardboard prototype in the .21 dimension and ask questions about the parameters as well.

Week 4
Thu, 4/11/24 CW – I started printing my prototype after fixing minor errors. I tried to fix errors in variables, but I couldn’t figure out the left side of the desktop organizer despite fixing all errors in the right side. I completed the printing of the horizontal pieces.

Thu, 4/11/24 HW – I completed my sketch for the drawers.

Wed, 4/10/24 CW – I completed the stairwell part of my desktop organizer. I fixed all minor errors for changing parameters. However, there was a major error when I was doing my parameters for a few of my combines in the stair part, so I decided not to do the parameters anymore. For homework, I will make the drawers. (make sure to leave .3 extra space)

Wed, 4/10/24 HW – I started extruding the stair case and completed the sketch. I’m still trying the adjust parameter errors.

Week 3 – Begin the Desktop Organizer project.
Thu, 4/4/24 CW – I finished the left side and fixed any errors

Thu, 4/4/24 HW – I fixed a few minor errors and changed the locations of the joints so that they don’t overlap. However, I was not able to completely figure out my issues with the parameters. I fixed my left and middle divider so that I can fit in the 2nd floor horizontal of the left side of the desktop organizer. I also filled in the unnecessary holes of the dividers using the extrude tool. When I change parameters, the desktop organizer seems to be fine, but it say that there is an error in sketch 1. In the next class I plan to finish the elevations of the left side and potentially start the drawers.

Wed, 4/3/24 CW – I finished the right half of my desktop organizer on fusion 360. I faced difficulties in changing parameters, but I eventually figured it out.

Wed, 4/3/24 HW – I continued modeling the desktop organizer based on my design on Fusion 360.

Mon, 4/1/24 CW – I started designing the desktop organizer on fusion 360 after completing a digital concept sketch.

Week 2
Thu, 3/28/24 CW – Today, I completed my problem statement and made a finalized sketch of the desktop organizer. I began designing the desktop organizer on Fusion 360 as well.
Problem statement: My client wants a rather simple, modern desktop organizer. She wants to be able to clean the desk top organizer easily, so the surface area of the organizer must be minimized with sections that are comparatively shallow in depth. (she has a dust allergy) She has a few binders on her desk that she does not use, and she wants to be able to organize them in the desktop organizer as well. Moreover, she plans to organize her first drawer using the desktop organizer as well. She also has a lot of smaller books(orientation handbook + english reading book) as well. Moreover, her small disorganized items need a place to be in. My customer also wants to have an earphone organizer that can be attached and detached.

Thu, 3/28/24 HW – I made a first draft of the desktop organizer design sketch.

Wed, 3/27/24 CW – In class, I got my interview questions answered and made a brief plan of the desktop organizer desgin.
- What are the primary issues you have with organizing your desktop?
- Dust
- too many binders that I don’t use (but want to keep on desk)
- fob holder(small stuff)
- random pieces of paper
- orientation handbooks
- organizing ear phones (attach and detach)
- What things do you leave on your desktop?
- too many binders that I don’t use (but want to keep on desk)
- fob holder(small stuff)
- random pieces of paper
- orientation handbooks
- If you have any, what organizers do you currently have on your desktop?
- pencilbox
- paper organizer
- binder organizer
- What do you wish to store in your desktop organizer?
- too many binders that I don’t use (but want to keep on desk)
- fob holder(small stuff)
- random pieces of paper
- orientation handbooks
- What design do you aspire your desktop organizer to be? (e.g. simple, complex, modern, antique)
- simplistic (minimalistic)
- modern
- Where will you be placing the organizer(on desk, in drawer, on the floor) and how big do you want it to be(height, width, length)?
- on the desk
- hanging from the wall
- Do you have a specific design you may want to engrave? If so, what is it?
- engrave “the best person ever”
- Do you have any special requests regarding the purpose of the organizer?
- can easily be wiped
- sturdy enough so that it doesn’t get blown away by air-filter

Wed, 3/27/24 HW – Because I finished my tutorial desktop organizer last lab period(+consultation), I made 8 questions for the actual project:
- What are the primary issues you have with organizing your desktop?
- What things do you leave on your desktop?
- If you have any, what organizers do you currently have on your desktop?
- What do you wish to store in your desktop organizer?
- What design do you aspire your desktop organizer to be? (e.g. simple, complex, modern, antique)
- Where will you be placing the organizer(on desk, in drawer, on the floor) and how big do you want it to be(height, width, length)?
- Do you have a specific design you may want to engrave? If so, what is it?
- Do you have any special requests regarding the purpose of the organizer?
Mon, 3/25/24 CW – I completed the practice desktop organizer. I learned that the extrude tool does not apply to items that are turned off, and I used that concept to fix the error in my front vertical. As for the small verticals, I deleted them and completed them again for the exact, precise lengths and measurements.

Week 1
Thu, 3/21/24 CW – I finished the practice desktop organizer and created the small triangles. I plan to place them for homework

Thu, 3/21/24 HW – For Homework, I completed video 5 and 6, starting 7. In other words, I created the right side of the desktop organizer and joined it with the left side. Then I made the front of the desktop organizer, completing the sketch with the dimension, fillet, and copy and paste tool. When extruding the front, I set the distance as “to object,” but I’m not sure if we can move the front independently when I do so. I plan to ask about this tomorrow in class. As for the part where we have to divide into seven parts, I wanted to use the parameter tool so I represented it as (9.863-2*materialthickness)/7 instead.

Wed, 3/20/24 CW – In class, I finished the fourth video of the practice desktop organizer. We learned to make curves and we used the offset tool for many purposes as well. The parameter tool that we learned last term was also used for material thickness.
